Sony KD55X8509C 4k TV £849 at Curry's. Cash for goals also included but £50 off has now finished. 5 year warranty included. Features include Android TV which has Google play store and youview.1000hz process rate so great for movies and sport. Was £999 so £150 saving:-)

I do not work for Sony, but have been following this model closely. Here is what I believe is meant by 'HDR Light'.
The X850-Series have the new firmware which makes these sets HDR compliant. They can play HDR content with the correct colour-range but lack the brightness/contrast of the 2016 range that are "Full HDR".
The contrast on these sets is around 3-400 nits compared to around 1000 nits on the 2016 models.
So yes, they will play HDR (very well actually) but not quite as good as the newer models which look brighter which in turn will make the colours more vibrant.

Contact them via ebay and tell them there price vs web site price and they should change it. I only say this because it did it before when there was a lower price on the web site and a higher price on ebay page so contacted them and they changed it.
Edit:
Just noticed they did reduce the price since this morning but its £850 so tell them about the clearly visable voucher on the web site

Had this TV from last year. When I first got it, it was plagued with issues..frustrating control, lip sync issues, rebooting on a daily basis, turning itself on in the middle of the night. since the last update everything more or less works although their are still lip sync issues on YouTube. The picture is great and the sound is not to shabby either, although I do use a soundbar rather than using the inbuilt volume.

Great TV, I paid more than £1000 for this last year, I got a free soundbar with it so it was still a great deal.
The soundbar has caused me some problems but apart from that i'm very happy with the TV, best thing about it is you can install Kodi from the playstore and it works great once you figure out what you are doing..

Its been updated so its supports HDR via HDMI 2.0a so works with a 4K Bluray player and it also supports HDR via streaming apps like Netflix and Amazon instant video.
bargain price, was £1500 then £1100.
Android is much better, remember to turn off and unplug your tv for a few mins after the updates or the updates dont really take effect.

The only OLEDs at the same price as the XD9305 are last years models (LG range) which in a nutshell were terrible, lack HDR and suffered all sorts of issues, just google the reviews of LG OLEDs from last year... there were more returns than people keeping them. If you asked about the OLEDs in Currys/PC World, the Sales reps will just laugh at you. The only thing going for them is the OLED tech with the better blacks.
The only TVs better than the XD9305 are the Panny 58" Viera (£800 more) and then the LG Signature 2016 Range which start at £3000 upwards.
Bottom line, the Sony is the best TV at this size bar none at this price currently available

I found that a lot of the others (samsung and lg) had really poor viewing angles unless you go OLED, excellent tv all the updates sort most of the issues it had on early release although i don't think the HDD recording works, they did say it was meant to be march of this year(I just haven't checked), fantastic for gaming and easy get calibrations to that effect it will also do 4k @ 60Hz @ 4:4:4 as a monitor and the android works well. No local dimming so not as good as the top range sony and lg LED tvs but good middle ground. This is a good site for all of that info http://uk.rtings.com

I really like it... I'm only watching Netflix in HD (not 4K) and it looks fantastic. It's a massive android tablet, with all the apps and computer guts inside. Be sure to UPDATE IT as soon as you get it.
Currys don't have the code any more so they 'say' they can't knock off £50, but the manager in my local branch honoured the code because we spoke earlier... So they technically 'do' have the power to knock a little something off, but don't dilly-dally, and charm their pants off. I also got Cash for Goals (England)... everyone does really, you register online at home.
The £50 code expired so RicherSounds would only match to £849.
But even if RS did knock off £50, I'd still get an extra theoretical £50+ through Cash for Goals on top of my cheeky £50 code (£799).
I'd rather get £50 off than an extra year. If it hasn't died by year 5 I reckon I'd get through year 6.

HDR will be limited due to type of screen and limitations of brightness and lack of local dimming.

I have this TV (currently also have a Samsung nano crystal 55" which is waiting to go back - light bleed, clouding, poor contrast, motion blur - just terrible), and the Sony absolutely wipes the floor with the Samsung. This does have 'HDR-lite' - the TV does have a wide colour gamut, courtesy of Triluminous, but is edge-lit meaning it probably cannot reach the extreme whites and deepest blacks which the 'official' HDR spec requires. Cannot reach 1000 nits either. Still some confusion over whether this is an 8-bit or 10-bit VA panel.

have this TV which I have been using for over 2 weeks now and it's excellent! out of the box picture is great but with a bit of tweaking it's even better. can calirify it is also HDR, bit only tried through apps at the moment and can be changed to HDR mode easily via the menu, I also believe it can be set up to do this manually but not sure. I also had concerns with it only being dual core but have seen no difference in speed or experienced any issues so far. all in all it is an excellent all round TV. use it for sky, xbone, fire TV and Netflix and we'll worth the money.

Have you seen the reviews on the Sony site of this tv? You might wonder why people on here think it's so great!

What do you reckon guys... JL 5 year waranty vs RS 6 year warranty?
If I go with RS it'll be the Leicester branch whom I don't have any past experience with whereas JL have always met my expectations.

A mate of mine calibrated my set with a colorimeter and some fancy software and it made a great TV out of the box exceptional, absolutely no bleed, the darkest blacks i've ever seen on an LCD TV. I got mine last Black friday for £1079 and was a bit peeved when Currys reduced it to £899 3 weeks later! The Android OS system can be a bit clunky at times and used to have bother with complete integration of all my AV kit for a while, but after an update and having the Yamaha Amp, Blu Ray player, Xbox 1 and Sky HD connected to the individual HDMIs rather than all connected to the amp and then the amp connected to the telly by the ARC HDMI, everything comes on and goes off as intended - press the sky remote's power button and Sky comes on with the amp and TV, same with every other input. Fast motion handling on this TV is fantastic compared to the LG competition.

There is confusion here according to Sony`s web site this model is not HDR yet the range says it is.
I spoke to a Sony rep who confirmed its HDR light. Newer sets have the full HDR.

Got this a few days ago (additional 7% off through an employee discount scheme) and its a great TV!
And potentially more off if a certain team score a good few goals at the Euros!
Any recommendations for a good sound bar? or am i better going with a cheaper AV receiver as i already have speaker (that i currently dont use)

Looks like a great deal but looking into it i feel a 55" will be too big for my bedroom as It's close to me (when on PC not in bed though) and will mean the door will open onto it (hmm..) think 45" is my limit current 40" Tesco brand from 2009 TV is playing up comes on goes off and gotta do it for about an hour to get it to come on, anyone know any sweet 4k 3D around 45"-46"?
Any got any feedback on SAMSUNG UE40JU7000 Smart 3D 4k Ultra HD 40" LED TV?
or Is the SONY BRAVIA KD43X8309CBU Smart 4k Ultra HD 43" LED TV the same as this just the 43" model? Dunno how to compare on curry's when listings aren't on same page

I have just spoken to Sony and they have confirmed this tv is HDR they say this is stated in their online manual but not in their spec sheet. They have also confirmed that there is no such thing as HDR-Lite.

That is correct - it is a term that is consumer-made and is nothing official. Saying that, I feel it quite accurate, given the difference between 2015/16 Sony models.

I have compared LG 55UF680V and Panasonic VIERA TX-55CX400B with this Sony Bravia. The Panasonic is backlit, 400 Hz, the LG is edgelit, 1000Hz and the Sony is edgelit, 1000Hz. Looking at reviews, edgelit TVs are supposed to be inferior to backlit TVs, especially for larger screen sizes such as the 55. Does that necessarily mean that the picture quality of the Panasonic is better than the other 2? I am not too keen on the Hz as I read somewhere that the eyes can't make out the difference anything more than 120 Hz (but I might be wrong). I am not too keen on the other fancy features, I intend on getting a kodi player.

2 Jun 161#164
No! The Panasonic model you mention is a Vestel tv not a true Panasonic, it'll have the worst picture quality of three you've looked at.
Yiu dont need a modi player with this tv as you can install it directly. High refresh rates help with fast action and remove a lot of motion blur that can really become noticable esp with high speed high contrast. The edge lighting is amazing on this set. You will always get a lil bleed at the edge but they really get inky bkacks with this set. Also backlit can create a hue around lighter objects and so can end up worse.
This set is smazing for 2d viewing 3d is dire and unusable. The os can be a lil laggy when navigating but the picture quality (the important but) is way beyond anything in this price range.

Edit:
Just noticed they did reduce the price since this morning but its £850 so tell them about the clearly visable voucher on the web site
Cracking TV, definitely worth this price. I love this TV, Very big.
There is some screen bleeding on darks, I only noticed when on loading screens on PS4 games, otherwise its been spot on with everything.
The soundbar has caused me some problems but apart from that i'm very happy with the TV, best thing about it is you can install Kodi from the playstore and it works great once you figure out what you are doing..
thank you.
bargain price, was £1500 then £1100.
Android is much better, remember to turn off and unplug your tv for a few mins after the updates or the updates dont really take effect.
:laughing::laughing::laughing:
If it was OLED I might be able to take you seriously .....
Happy to educate you further on the ins and outs of TV technology if required
its good, but i still wish i went for another samsung (currys 899 inc soundbar - october time 2015)
To enter this promotion, you must be 18 years or over and be a resident of England, Wales, Scotland, Isle of Man or Isle of Wight.
***rabble rabble rabble etc etc***
This comes with a 5 year guarantee with Currys as well
You can actually get a couple of OLEDs for good prices now. For example my brother in law has the LG 910v (might be the 930v) and its absolutely amazing to my eyes. So much so i'm tempted to grab one myself.
Anyway its all subjective. Whats poor to one man maybe the best thing ever to the next. Enjoy the the new set anyway
The only TVs better than the XD9305 are the Panny 58" Viera (£800 more) and then the LG Signature 2016 Range which start at £3000 upwards.
Bottom line, the Sony is the best TV at this size bar none at this price currently available
Sods law would be an understatement.
Why are you mentioning a brand new telly on a thread about a much reduced old telly?
http://www.t3.com/features/state-of-the-art-4k-tvs-on-test
Honestly, they are both as good as eachother in different respects.
This LG has lush skin tones I think, but Sony's Motion Flow technology it great. Problem with the 860v is the 39" leg span
I want the Sony, if I can find it for £799. The 860V was about £750 form Selfridges.
Let me know if you find any good/better prices
Did hear somewhere BRAVIA are the best range?
The guy recognised me from the previous day and also honoured the £50 off code, so got it for £799 (+ CFG)
Anyone know who they are backing for Cash For Goals? England?

I've had this tv for a few months and have no complaints what so ever, the picture quality is excellent.
just need to see if there's any recommended picture settings for this tv set.
Oh well keep it for a while I guess.
bought for 799.99 from Richer sounds btw knew I should have got that js9000 when they were on offer at the model switchover in feb
Also what is the purpose of the supplied IR blaster??
Many thanks
No glasses are included.
If you were me where would you purchase from?
Would you buy from JL over Richer Sounds? They also seem to have a very good rep amongst the AV enthusiasts. The extra year warranty is tempting too
If you like 3d though stay well clear it suffers really really bad with crosstalk. You can basically see both images its that bad.
Im seriously torn between JL and RS
