Bought about a year ago for £475 (after cashbacks) from very.co.uk
It's a very nice-looking machine, although do make sure you do your research on the processor. For most people it's fine, but if you're into gaming, graphics stuff or complex spreadsheets or whatever, it'll be too slow.
For £650 there are much better laptops spec wise - or otherwise you can get the same spec a fair bit cheaper these days.
FWIW, I'm really happy I got mine - and would still have been happy if i'd paid this price. But that was a year ago and prices have now come down.

I dont know much about the m series, but im looking for a laptop that would easily run matlab, cad, solidworks etc while being light to take to uni(45 min commute), would anyone recommend this laptop?

This is extremely thin and ultra portable with a fantastic QHD IPS screen, however the processor is made to have low power consumption so it performs like a last gen dual i5. So I think it might struggle you probably want to get a skylake i7.

I'd steer clear of the 4.5w "core M" processors tbh.
Basically they burst into a super-fast processor mode for about 5-10 seconds, then drop back to a low-power state to avoid overheating. Great for booting up really quickly, opening programs quickly etc - It gives laptops really long battery life and/or means they can be made super thin/light - But they really aren't designed for software which requires prolonged processor power.
Given your needs, I think you'll regret not going for something with a 15w processor (i3, i5, i7)
The i5 surface pro 4 + keyboard would be a decent fit for you if you can stretch to that price (£950). It was on offer at Microsoft store/John Lewis for about £750 recently - I expect they will be on offer again within the next few months if you can wait.

I probably will wait given that exams are soon and after that i have a 3 month holiday, so there's really no rush tbh. i also have an i7 laptop at home, just its too heavy to take. thanks for the help, i havent kept up with processors etc since the ix-4xxx series, and now we're on 6 so youre help was appreciated :smiley:

I would check the recommended spec for CAD. I find single core performance is more important. Matlab doesnt need too much. If you are looking at using FEA or CFD i would suggest SSD.

Last time I mentioned that 4th gen (4xxx series) were outdated and you should be looking to 6th gen Skylake, I got told I didn't know what I was talking about, but performance hasn't changed a great deal, in fact, not lot since Sandy Bridge, it seems to be mostly about improving power consumption, efficiency and GPU performance.
Core M is very interesting but can be quite niche, so as others say if you need sustained power, don't get a Core M, get an 'i-class' processor instead. It's fine for general purpose use (not specialist, performance apps).
Also worth noting this is 5th gen Broadwell, not 6th gen Skylake which might account for the keen price as it's technically EOL.
