Great price!, but if you're planning on using it for domestic use, ie your average 8 inch Victoria sandwich mix, it's not so good. As it's the large 6.7l bowl it struggles to mix small quantities.

I've never found it to be an issue

Nice price with the 20% discount but this bit isn't correct:
It's also available at 179.99 from Amazon.
Wondering whether to bite. I make a lot of heavy breads and not sure if this would take the load.

Do you mean the Bosch Universal and Universal Plus? They look good but don't seem to be officially available in the UK. There are people selling them but Bosch only list the overhead mixers on their UK site. Makes me wonder what the warranty situation would be. I'll have to investigate.
Not actually true!
The Major will mix equally small quantities as the smaller Chef.
The bottom of the bowl is the same. The Major is simply taller.
All the Kenwood beaters are adjustable (vertically - by adjusting the shaft with locknut), so you can choose how close to the bottom of the bowl it passes -- the standard tools do need a little clearance!
However, for cake-making its worth investigating the flexible silicone beaters that are supposed to be adjusted to actually brush against the bowl sides and bottom. For the Major its the AT502.

For serious dough mixing on a large but still domestic scale nothing beats (!) the Electrolux Assistent (spelling is correct), also known as the Magic Mill, DLX and nowadays as the Ankarsrum Original.
Its weird. The bowl rotates, the dough hook doesn't.
Not cheap, but nothing comes close as a dough mixer. (And its mincer attachment similarly makes the Kenwood and KitchenAid attachments look like toys ...)

As I said previously, these aren't great for domestic use, the problem isn't with the beater not reaching the bottom of the bowl as this is adjustable. When you try to cream the butter and sugar for an 8oz cake mix the beaters (flexi or K beater) will push the mix around the side of the bowl, smearing a thin coat of it around the bowl and not actually creaming it. Every time you scrape the bowl down the same thing will happen.
Also, the bowl is quite heavy with a cake mix in, as there isn't a handle it's tricky scraping the batter out into the cake tin.
Having said that, if you bake in large quantities (24 cupcakes/ 12oz mixes) this is an excellent machine, if not I would recommend one of the 3l models.
I've voted hot as this is a great price for this machine!
