I own one of these, can't knock it. For the price these are one of the best around for this capacity.

I got one a while ago when they were slightly cheaper, great drive for the price, a must have item

I got one, put it next to my fridge, every time I wash up I grin, thinking at what I have, you'll always find me washing up now, so consequently I have enough cups, plates and bowls ready, quite an experience I can tell you.

Can these be used as external usb drive?

you would need an enclosure for it but it should be fine for that.

Hynix is one of the largest manufacturers of RAM in the world, they do a mix of oem and own brand stuff. I'd buy this without hesitation.

When I checked the internal memory on my Samsung phone, I found it was made by Hynix! lol

Cracking price for 250gig!
Ssd technology is mature enough these days to I think so that one does not need to pay the premium for higher end models and brands like Samsung or Intel

Think I'd rather pay the extra £1.30 or so for the Crucial BX200 from Amazon tbh

Great drive. I can't tell any difference between my two Samsung EVOs and this one.

Thanks OP, Heat added. I have been dithering about upgrading my WIN10 laptop to a SSD , at this price / spec it had to be done. Just need to figure out the best way to do the migration. Also purchased a SATA - USB enclosure so have a method to get the WIN 10 onto the SSD, and still be left with the HDD with WIN 10 on as a fall back in case the migration goes pear shaped. Eeek !

Looking for a cheap upgrade to my old Corsair Force 3 (120GB). Will this be faster? Or should I look at spending more?

Samsung Evo is from a much more reputable company and offers a far better, safer performance imo, having said that this is slightly cheaper, good price

Samsung "much more reputable"? What's disreputable about Hynix? Hynix make RAM for loads of companies. They are the worlds second largest chip maker after Samsung. As zaq321 says, even some Samsung phones contain Hynix memory.

Samsung is a HUGE corporation. Due to anti-competition laws, Samsung will use parts from a cheaper supplier if it meets the same spec. Hynix is a fantastic brand, many PC manufacturers (Acer, Asus, Dell, HP etc) use Hynix RAM, so SSD will be fine too. Hot deal, tempted to buy one and use as a USB drive!

So, just to clarify, you just put it next to your fridge, you didn't actually install it in your fridge? If so, what are you actually using for the non-volatile data storage in your fridge? Have you gone for a RAID set-up, or did you think that was over-kill? Quite interested in improving my own washing-up throughput with a suitable level of redundancy.

While Hynix may be widely used the Samsung Evo boasts a very fast write speed, fantastic reviews and a global brand, they are generally very good with warranty and replacement, I would personally so for an Evo as it is marginally more expensive yet seems much better

I am going to get an ssd for my laptop for the first time and was wondering if this on is fine or if I should pay more for the Samsung evo.

I would highly recommend to do a fresh build, easily achievable as you would just need to create recovery disks for your laptop, then swap have the hard drive over and use the recovery disks to install from scratch. Although it is hassle to do this but you'll be able to see the difference between a fresh build and a copy from HDD to SSD.
