I was due an upgrade (existing Orange EE Customer).
Phoned EE and said I was leaving and required PAC code.

When asked why...told them that BT had a better deal....(20gb data, UL mins/texts for £20 per month)....

They immediately said they'd match it and offer a second SIM at a reduced of £10.80 a month.

Very worthwhile sticking to EE as the coverage is so good.

Not for everybody so expect it to go cold...miseries.

Well, I wouldn't quite say by 'ask nicely' because I had to get a PAC code, wait for the next day to get a call for the deal to come through.

The guy I spoke to (to get my PAC code) said there is no such thing as a 25GB plan - but it definitely is worth it as there is no risk.. If you don't use the PAC code within 30 days then they just continue billing as normal.

BT owns EE, and has the same coverage, as it is the same system.

BT runs on the standard speed EE network, all customers who go with EE directly get double speed internet as well as extra perks such as tethering, Wuaki Movies, EU usage etc.

In short, its better to go directly with EE than BT at the moment.

I'm on 4GEE and data is quite slow unless you're in central London. Once you leave London, reception is very average specially during busy time or when others are likely to be streaming..

Buffers a lot, even checking emails can be a task.

HOT is you live in central London
COLD if you don't ..

I live 200 miles north of London. They do actually have good coverage. In some areas I can get up to 67Mb. I mostly average 40-50Mb, needless to say - it's more than enough.

Currently on Vodafone simo 12 month deal at £20 pm, but I did get £85.85 tcb and 12 months £7.99 pm Netflix offer added. So effectively £4.85pm for 20GB data, utld mins and texts.

I managed to get a new line for £16.49 for the 16GB Data unlimited calls and text after mentioning the BT deal. It's worth noting that the BT plan DOES NOT come with the extra speed 4G out of the box and that it costs £4 extra a month. For comparison purposes the equivalent package at BT would be £24 with slightly more data but WITHOUT the ability to use your data for tethering.

Or there's this deal http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/vodafone-12mth-8gb-unltd-mins-txts-spotify-22-95-mth-161-cash-back-9-50-equiv-mobiles-2454929 which is £9.50 after cashback for the following
12 months
8GB 4G UK Data
unlimited UK minutes
unlimited UK texts
2GB inclusive roaming data
unlimited inclusive roaming minutes and texts
2 months' unlimited UK data
12-month entertainment pack (Spotify, NowTV Entertainment or BT Sports Mobile TV)

It does require an outlay of £22.95 per month and claiming cashback from mobiles.co.uk at regular specified intervals. I appreciate that will not be for everyone though. Oh and there's £5 back through Quidco.

I'm in Bedfordshire and I have to say the coverage on ee is better than any other network. I get 4g I'd say 60% of the time and colleagues on o2 for example barely get 3g outside the town centre. I wouldn't move to another network purely for the superior coverage on ee/bt

So i guess it says 4G on the screen and gives 5-6 signal bars, but what's the performance like?

Never had any issues, I've done a few speed tests and it's been up to 55mb in the past. That was near London (Cheshunt) though. I'll do some tests today and try getting back with some screenshots.

You do know that signal bars don't actually represent the signal strength right? No, no you don't. The signal bars don't actually represent signal strength & are company contrived. They're a bit of a con. You either are connected or you arent.
DealJourno
30 May 16 #37
Incorrect. They may bare little relation to the power strength of your coverage. Try standing directly under a cell site and see how much relation they have to service. Quality of service can vary and what your phone display shows, gives a very rough idea.

Thats kind of just how phones work outside London rather than anything particularly special about EE. EE does have very good rural coverage though, as good as Vodaphone if not better and it actually has good coverage in the cities which vodaphone doesn't always have .

I'm in Three and the signal is rubbish, I wanna join EE.. But their normal sim-only prices are a bit ridiculous, £17.99 for 2gb of data. Would love to see something similar to what I've got right now, 2gb for £10
Is it worth it to go to EE shop and ask them if they could offer me something better than what they have online?

Hi, I'm currently with o2 on a monthly plan. Something like 5gb for 24 quid.

Thanks.

30 May 16 #50
It's quicker to do things like transfer files, open web pages, load videos etc. Why would you want to wait longer just because you don't have an unlimited plan?

Besides, the only truly unlimited plans are on Three who have much less 4g coverage than EE.
rhodyate
30 May 16 #51
Agreed that's why I left them and joined Talktalk sim only deal 1000mins, unlimited txt and 3gb of data which is more than enough for most people, it's £5.50 per month and I got £60 cashback from Top cash back, = 50p per week plus I rang Talktalk and told them I wasn't happy with the 3g signal and that I wanted to cancel the contract and they gave me £80 credit to stay and they told that they will be using O2 for their mobile network and I will be receiving 4g then, so I am happy indeed.

Good deal but i guess it depends on how much data you need. I settled for this old retention deal.

2000 mins,
unlimited texts 5GB data 4G. £11.99 PM

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/ee-retention-deal-2000-minutes-unlimited-texts-5-gb-4g-data-for-11-99-2241148?p=25515657

Depends on how much data you need i guess, i was once on a 12gb 4G data a month tariff once and was only using about 3-4gb per month. £19.99 a month seems a bit steep for a sim only tariff. The ee roaming thrown in might make it worth it but i think it doesn't include data?

Thanks op, been trying to wangle a better deal for over a month now - requested PAC code 2 weeks ago but never got a call back.

Phoned again not long ago, ended up having to speak to three different people as they kept transferring me - first one said that BT is slower and throttled after 6pm and he couldn't match the price, second one was offering 10gb for £23 and third one matched the deal after putting me on hold

It can do. If you stream video it usually detects your Internet speed and plays the video at te best quality possible. So a fast connection might default to playing 1080p while a slower connection may only be able to let you play a 480p file without buffering.

It depends on how good your signal is, amongst other things. If you are connected at 4G but your RSRQ/SNR values are low you might not be able to achieve 10Mbps. There's a lot more to it than just how fast the network is.

Called retentions, said exactly what you suggested and they matched the deal without issue. My wife's phone is on a shared plan with me so after asking what they could do, they converted hers to £12 a month sim only sharing this plan (down from £22) and they will honour her upgrade, if we want it, in a months time. Absolutely fantastic, just halved my mobile phone bill each month and quadrupled my data. Thank you very much.

For those who have taken up this contract, I have just checked my online account with EE and it shows the bill/contract as being £37.99.

I called their CS today and selected the option for if you want your PAC code etc.... and got offered this deal and was told its the best they could do.
