No one is buying Doom for multiplayer. It's all about shoving a double barrel shotgun in a demon's face. ;D

I'm not touching this with a bargepole because (insert uninteresting, elitist opinion that nobody asked for here). If you had half a brain, plebian scum, you'd buy (other game that's likely very good, but doesn't have MURDEROUSLY SHOTGUNNING THE HELL OUT OF DEMONS WHILST CIRCLE STRAFING in it) instead.
It's an old school shooter. You never have to reload. I'm in.

Great quote from YouTube comment:
In a ordinary First Person Shooter you'd wait for an NPC to use a keycard or a terminal to hack a locked door. Then you'd proceed through a corridor, killing as many Muslims and/or Russians possible with your boring standard M16 and Beretta M9. Doing this will successfully end terrorism forever.
In Doom you grab a bloody corpse and slam their f**king faces into an eye scanner, ready your old double barrel shotgun, spin up your chainsaw and reload your light machine gun the size of a Honda Civic. Sure, you'd walk around corridors, but they are filled with satanic alien demons, all ready to mutilate you in 26 different ways.
... Why you ask? We don't really know, we don't really care. Neither should you, I mean did you even listen to me? Here's a shotgun, go kill some demons, we promise you'll have really fun!

Wasn't at all a fan of the beta. It's by no means bad, just a distinctly average take on the current flavour of the month-type "FPG with RPG elements". Fun for a couple of hours but not much after that.
My advice would be to put an extra tenner in and pre-order Overwatch. A very modern take on a TF2 objective-style FPS. Butter smooth engine, great artistic style and very finely balanced mechanics. I reckon any FPS fan would get more than their monies worth from that.

some people don't want MP, they are only interested in SP for Doom. overwatch is a MP only game & absolutely nowt to do with Doom.
I am not touching this. Will pick it up bargain basement in 3 months.

Mate this is from CD Keys, it's a post launch price.
For example Dark Souls 3 was £23 at one point on CD keys. It's now £33.99. Same thing with X-Com 2.
3 months after launch you might get it for £20. For the sake of £3 i'd rather experience the launch especially considering a component of the game is multiplayer.

interesting.... A current discussion going on at neogaf as all review co[ies have been withheld until release day....
General consensus seems to be leaning towards the SP being poor

Bethesda always do that now. They did the same thing with fallout 4. By the time the reviews surfaced, a lot of people (including me) had already played it.

They re-made it once - they're remaking it again. Wait a couple more years or so and they'll remake it again. I'm guessing it's basically a nice tech-demo like Doom 3.

As nice as it looks, the gameplay doesn't seem worth even £23. Probably a short game too I'll bet.

Looking forward to this. For anyone thinking of buying a new motherboard or monitor I see Asus have a promotion on selected lines at the moment with a free download of Doom! Not bad if you're thinking of upgrades / buying new system in next few months as the redemption offer runs until July. http://www.asus.com/event/2016/rog/doom/

One thing that concerns me is that theyre only releasing review copies on launch day, not reviews but the actual review copies they use to make the review.
Im only in it for sp but that kind of behaviour is unusual and leaves me concerned, which is a shame because i really want a new doom/doom style sp game.

Withholding review copies certainly sets off my alarm bells. You may want to hold off until after release, see if Bethesda had a reason for doing so.

My copy came last night, two days early (thanks SimplyGames!).
I've given it a quick whirl for an hour or so and... it feels like Doom. The fast pace and simple, adrenaline-pumping gameplay of the originals mixed with the aesthetic of Doom 3 (more or less).
It's straight into the action with very little in the way of story so far, but at the same time there have been a couple of hints of doing something fairly interesting that may tie the story of this game back into the earlier ones (or may not, who knows).
Oh, and the sound design is ace - a modern update of the old games, both in terms of the jagged music and the sfx (remember that feeling of dread when you suddenly hear an imp hiss out of nowhere? That's back.) In fact, there's a real sense that this has been made for Doom fans of old, above all. (Is it sad that I felt a nostalgic thrill when I realised I had to find a blue keycard?)
There have been some innovations though - there's a 'glory kill' system that lets you perform special takedowns on enemies that are close to death (in return for extra health) and there's more weapon modification than I remember in a Doom game before.
At its heart though it seems to be pretty focused on making you keep moving at all times and have to be ready for a fight at any moment. Which is as it should be.

Do the cutscene kills ruin the flow of action or is it still fast?
TwoKF
12 May 16#28
I can't buy this in good faith because there's too many questionable things like the badly recieved, outsourced multiplayer (lowering replay value - and likely the price quite quickly) but 21.99 for it is still a steal either way, so have some heat for that.
DaveWallace

It's still fast, and the glory kills are made an integral part of the game as executing them makes the baddies release more health and ammo (which you really need). They're not just for show.

Ok that video looks and plays nothing like the beta from a few weeks ago. I'm interested again!

Yep that's why i never judge a game on seeing the multi-player more so the doom mp beta i thought it was poor... for me doom is all about SP and by what i am seeing all ready its looking rather good but only time will tell
I played a little of it tonight and I like it. It's just pretty simple point and shoot action but it looks gorgeous and the optimisation is excellent. It feels totally different to the horror style of doom 3.

Ordered! In the market for a new PC as soon at the 1080 arrives at the end of the month so i'll bank my steam code for now and resist the temptation of getting on PS4. The recent Vulcan 1080 footage showcased the true potential of this game maxed out at over 200fps - so it'll be worth the wait.
