Hi Clint, how do I use the £50.00 credit on my account to renew my Xbox Live?
Clint S: at 23:29:45
Hello! I will be happy to assist you with your questions today!
Clint S: at 23:29:53
You are referring to the Microsoft Credit correct?
You: at 23:29:31
Yes?
You: at 23:30:00
I've tried using my XboxOne and also here on my desktop.
You: at 23:30:12
It just goes to Credit Card as an option.
Clint S: at 23:31:08
At this time to purchase Xbox Live on the console or through our stores you need to purchase it with a credit card since it is a subscription. Microsoft credit is not usable on the MicrosoftStore.com
You: at 23:31:17
Really, how long has this been the case?
You: at 23:31:41
I bought that credit specifically so that I could renew my Sub.
Clint S: at 23:32:25
For as long as I can recall
You: at 23:33:27
Does it say this on Gift Cards?
Clint S: at 23:35:26
It is in the terms which the card provides a URL for it. It is Microsoft.com/cardterms
You: at 23:35:06
£15.00
Get games and entertainment for your Xbox One, Xbox 360, or Windows Phone 8. Great as a gift, allowance, or credit card alternative.

Clint S: at 23:37:25
Correct, an alternative for purchasing games. It is not usable to purchase Xbox Live since Xbox Live is a subscription service and would need a credit card to automatically renew at the end of the terms you purchased, if you do not wish to use a credit card we do provide Xbox Live time at many retail stores
You: at 23:37:27 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/gift-card-terms-conditions
I don't see where it says can not be used to purchase Xbox Live.
You: at 23:38:51

second paragraph
You: at 23:43:14
You may not use your account balance for certain in-app subscriptions or purchases, or to obtain cash or cash substitutes (e.g. gift certificates), except where we are required to allow you to do so by law. Each Participating Store may impose additional purchase restrictions or exclusions. Microsoft doesn’t issue refunds for the Merchandise we sell in Participating Stores, except where required by law. If we accept a return, we will credit your Microsoft account with the same amount that was used to purchase the returned Merchandise.

You: at 23:44:11
I don't consider Xbox Live an "in-app subscription"
You: at 23:45:13
Why does it not specifically say the Gift Cards can not be used for Xbox Live Gold?
Clint S: at 23:46:04
In-app would be referring to the XBOX Marketplace application. If you are purchasing it within the marketplace (which is all purchases directly on the XBOX), it would be considered an in-app subscription. As XBOX live is a subscription.
You: at 23:45:24
*that
You: at 23:46:36
So I'm trying to use the credit online via my desktop and it still doesn't let me use the credit.
Clint S: at 23:47:41
Alrighty are you trying to use it for Xbox Live?
You: at 23:47:36
Yes https://account.xbox.com/en-GB/Subscriptions/Index?title=Gold&purchaseIndex=-1
Clint S: at 23:49:04
It is not usable for Xbox Live Gold subscriptions.
Clint S: at 23:49:59
The good news is that you can use it for Games and DLC.
You: at 23:50:05
No that is not good news, I intended to use that credit to renew my Xbox Live Gold.

Limitations on using the money in your Microsoft account
Gift cards can be used to buy digital content from select Microsoft online stores such as Windows Store, Windows Mobile Store and Xbox store.
Clint S: at 23:51:28
Correct, Digital content such as Games, DLC, and Movies.
You: at 23:51:28
Digital content such as ability to use Xbox Live Gold and access Games with Gold.
Clint S: at 23:53:07
That is a subscription, not digital content.
You: at 23:53:50
I have been an Xbox live gold member for several year (>10).
I'm not happy about this.
Clint S: at 23:55:17
I can understand your frustration, however that is not the way the digital gift card can be used.
Clint S: at 23:58:10

Can you give me a specific answer to this previous question.
Clint S: at 23:59:28
Alrighty let me find you a solid answer
You: at 23:58:53
For as long as I can recall, Xbox credit could be use for any Xbox purchase.
You: at 0:00:00
I have owed an Xbox (original, several 360s and an Xbox One) for several years, in addition to other Microsoft products.
Clint S: at 0:02:35
We do not have a specific date on when that was implemented however if you would like I can get you a link to Xbox Support and you can discuss with them
You: at 0:04:38
Not very helpful Clint S. However if that's the only option you have left.
