the reviews for this are absolutely appalling. I'm going to buy a pair of wellies instead. it won't help with the lawn but I just love wearing them. hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice - if it ever starts again I will run it like that!

Rip cord version. Not a lot to go wrong with it - recoil start sitting about a little two stroke engine. It's an earlier one with only choke and run as opposed to the rubbish three position versions around now. Also I have always found that while mixing the oil/fuel go a little heavy on the oil. Sure it smells slightly more but from my experience prolongs the life of the engine.

Glad yours has been ok - which do you have, the electronic start one or the second one I purchased?

Just bought this. It looks well made and it's a lot heavier than the black and decker I've just binned.
I had one of these and it lasted about a year. The bit that rotates became loose and would fly off when it heated up after running for about 10-15 mins. I wouldn't recommend it.

It isn't that good at all, the extra strong cables a joke as it is a fixed piece slotted into a holder and tbh it didn't seem to strim much earlier. I will give it another week and decide if it goes back as being a turd.

Compared with a petrol unit, all these struggle. I have the same Ryobi unit and it has been fantastic for me!

Not any more they're not! Argos now Sainsbury's; Homebase now Bunnings (Australian).

I bought a £150 Ryobi petrol one a couple of years ago, with an electronic/battery start - seized within 18 months or so. Then another non-battery start petrol Ryobi one and it's extremely difficult to start - I liked the fact you could exchange the heads on the Ryobi for brushcutter, strimmer or hedgecutter and have all those attachments so it is very annoying! Can anyone recommend a "decent" electric or battery strimmer/brushcutter if this one is so terrible, please?

I do need a new strimmer but every time I get one for £20 it turns out to be crap. Think I'm gonna pay a bit more this time round.

In in the need of one at the moment, Good price - but everyone that I have used before the cutting blade/line only seems to last for a few minutes before breaking.

From the reviews £1.99 wouldn't be a deal for this.

I am fairly sure if you found and posted this for £1.99 it would be considered quite a deal.
this is the normal price! you'll find it picked the same in the homebases too

Not normal when looking round the internet but considering Argos and Homebase are owned by the same group it figures they have the same prices now and again.

The larger battery version is also half price (£49.99):
Got one of these battery ones a while back (Homebase clearance for £27.43) and very happy with it. Spare blades are a little costly though, but they seem to last quite well.

*edit. I just looked at the Amazon reviews and it seems to be a bad choice? (Giving it a go anyway as I can always return it) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bosch-Combitrim-Electric-Telescopic-Diameter/dp/B0007P251K/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
