Alpha Protocol! £1.99! Down from £10.00! One of the few games I have completed (the others being Deus Ex, Mass Effect, GTA, Operation Flashpoint and Xcom series!). I asked my friend a few years ago to recommend an intelligent shooter. This is what he chose. An awesome spy adventure game where you level up your character by picking different skills you want to chose (I think I was sniper, but you can go in stealth or guns a blazing). As you go on your adventure you make decisions as to who is on your side and who isn't. Crikey. Why aren't I replaying this based on my review? Ha. Because I have a million unplayed and unfinished games on my steam list! But this is worth investing in! Highly recommended. For the price of an ice cream in the park.

Sorry, I've finished this but it pales in comparison to the games you're comparing it to.

Arguably I would still prefer an ice cream in the park, but perhaps this game was misunderstood?

I really enjoyed this game. Sure it was floored in more way than one but I genuinely enjoyed it more than most of the recent games I've played.
Wish they'd had a chance to do a sequel after lessons being learnt. Could of been brilliant . . . . . . or rubbish but if it was just as good as the first I would of bought it.

Nowhere near as good as Mass Effect and especially Deus Ex, but worth a punt at this price.

Completed this back in 2012 on ps3 and it felt dated then. I see where the OP is coming from with the mass effect and deus ex comparison but it's really nothing like those. Closer to a third person Goldeneye or MGS on the ps1 with some conversation choices loosely effecting the story direction. I'm sure I paid about £3.00 for this back in 2012 too so not voting either way.
Still worth it at £1.99 if you've got nothing else to play, it just felt like a bit of a missed opportunity that deserved a sequel to address some of its flaws.

That is a fair point that it isn't as polished as Mass effect and deus ex. But I really enjoyed the plot. And didn't have the crazy side missions mass effect had. Much more to the point. i bought deus ex for my friend as a return favour for recommending this!

I think everyone one has a trash game they love, for me it was Two Worlds. Because Alpha Protocol is made by sega it's an instant turn off but that being said cheap is cheap heat added for price.

Made by Obsidian actually, they've made some decent games you know.

The conversation system in this games is miles better than what came later.
Mass Effect might have the "renegade" option, but no other game lets you be as much of a total areshole as Alpha Protocol.
Also, you get to fight a boss who is high on cocaine and loves The Buggles.
Personally, this is one of my all-time favourite games.
