those types of chargers are excellent for monitoring how much capacity your batteries have, and spotting duff cells !

I was recommended the Technoline BL-700 which has been an excellent charger. It looks very similar to this one and retails at £29.99 so this looks like a bit of a bargain! Heat.

I'd personally go for the Xtar VC4 (which I have) which intelligently charges Li-ion cells as well as Ni-Mh. Cost me £22 or so and the small premium over this charger is well worth it considering (a) the Xtar is very highly rated and regarded and (b) it gives Li-ion option should you choose it for the future. I've heated this deal nonetheless.

Cheers I bought one to replace a 8 year old Aldi charger that is still going strong. The link from MichaelLi looks more like the deal model although this doesn't charge Li-ion batteries, which I don't have anyway. Are they going to be the next step forward in batteries?

I'm not sure what your comment means but if you a quoting this Maha MH-C9000 being better value. the bet price I could find was 3x the deal price.
I bought one of these a year ago when they were £19 and then they went up in price a bit. I was waiting for them to drop in price again, so just bought a second unit last week at this lower price, for use at another location.
This has been an excellent charger with accurate readings to determine which batteries are good, failing or no use at all. The refresh facility, although taking time to cycle several times between charge and discharge has been very effective at bringing older fading batteries back to useful life.
I've been pleased with this unit. Having previously used the Technoline BL700, which really sets the standard in these types of chargers, this one from 7Day Shop functions equally well for me.

Eneloops are widely regarded as really good batteries - a bit pricier than others but they are good. In reality, the cost of the battery is virtually immaterial as they can be reliably charged hundreds of times so don't skimp on quality by buying cheap and crappy batteries.

Had this for about 5 years under another brand name. Keep your old cheap charger anyway, if this advanced charger rejects a battery (NULL) then put in the cheap charger for 15 mins first.

Any of the low discharge batteries that get sent out pre charged. I use eneloops but imedion get good reviews too
One great feature of these smart chargers vs. Normal chargers, is that they can charge odd numbers of batteries and different sized batteries at the same time

In case you were thinking of buying the cheap one from 7dayshop and swapping out the guts!

Shame it doesn't have a backlight, but having read extensively on chargers this seems the best 'all rounder' within my budget.
Can anyone recommend a good cheap LED (gooseneck or similar) to go with it?

Strangely the 7 day shop charges eneloop aa to 1.37v and the youshinko to 1.52v

For some unknown reason my dropbox photos aren't showing. The picture is of the 2 together on my kitchen worktop I have tried editing the photo several times but it won't link up. The youshimoko is considerable larger than the 7dayshop one
