I use iD.
The good
- The deal I've got is fantastic and can't be beaten. The price is very, very low for what you get.
- The signal is really good (although I'm in London).
- The data monitoring app is really clean, easy to use and tracks your usage really well.
- Number porting was absolutely painless.
- Download / upload speed is great. It's faster than my 50 mbps BT broadband.
- It's a monthly rolling contract. You're not locked in!
The Bad
- Unfortunately their data limit notifications won't update so if you bought a "double data" deal you will get notifications telling you you've half of your allowance even though you've only used a quarter. However if you go onto the app you will see exactly how much data you have left. The app is very accurate and you'll learn to ignore the incorrect notifications so this is not a major problem.
- No tethering, but again this is such a minor issue for me.
I have not had any reason to talk to customer services, so although they might be terrible the initial service is good enough that I can happily avoid talking to anyone. A few people have said "Just wait till you have a problem with them, then you're in trouble!". That might very well be the case, but honestly I can't anticipate anything going wrong and, if it does, it's a monthly contract which I can cancel at a moments notice. The cost of the contract is so small that even if they charge me an extra month I'm almost certainly saving money in the long run anyway!
HotUKdeals is about saving money and getting bargains. The bottom line is that this tariff is a bargain and I can't recommend it more!

For some reason the mobile app truncated my last paragraph.
I'd written that I find it strange that Three weren't happy with me having an unlimited data plan (for £12.90 p.m.), whilst by their own records I used <4Gb data per month, but they are now happy with me paying them £0.90 less per month for a package that still fits my usage?
Mercurius
4 Jun 16#80
I should add, I called Three a day too late to change my plan (apparently you have to give them 24hrs notice...), so I'm on the AYCE data + 200 mins package for one month at £20. I'll be automatically switched to the 4Gb + unlimited mins plan in a few weeks. TBH it worked well while I was on holiday and purposefully rinsed the data plan.
I still find it strange that they weren't happy with me having an unlimited data plan - while by their own records only using <4Gb data and <200 mins p.m. for £12.90 - but are happy for me to now pay them £0.90 less per month for a contract that still fits my usage. Fine, let me give you less money?

I decided to go with that deal. The alternative was £17 for 200 mins and 12 Gb of data. They didn't budge on an 8Gb deal for me. I decided I was better off paying £12 p.m. and occasionally using the £5 data top up (another 4Gb). I've only gone over 4Gb twice in the last 12 months, so it should work nicely for me, plus I now get unlimited calls.

How are you finding it three weeks on? I was on the same deal with three which has now ended. The best they can offer is 4gb unlimited calls and texts for £12. Not sure 4gb is enough for me though

From other comments it seems the only choice is to port away to another provider (e.g. onto a free GIffGaff PAYG SIM to avoid another contract) and then back again to ID Mobile on the new deal.

for just £1.50 more, go for this instead -
- no contract (as PAYG)

Got a better deal with 3. plus they don't charge you £90 for going over your data limit without telling you.

had this for a few months now, extremely pleased with the service. Really good, clean app displaying your remaining allowances, services, addons etc and the signal is amazing. You are partly correct, the registered company address is PO BOX 256, Southampton SO30 2PG - Not at the THREE UK Head office as you previously assumed. iD Communications is NOT iD Mobile as far as I know. They appear to only rent airtime from THREE UK as you pointed out, but most importantly Carphone Warehouse and the Dixons Group have a different financial structure, and the all important "business model", which has been widely criticised by many iD Mobile customers.
Many have been left out of pocket due to surreptitious and unauthorised punitive charges taken from their bank accounts. I was only one of many, so it pays to read the reviews on the consumer websites, such as s21, where my own experience was highlighted. HUKD also has a thread of feedback about iD Mobile, and it is recommended that potential customers read these comments.
These comments are not purely "customer care issues" but describe additional and punitive payments taken from Bank Accounts.
The iD Mobile Call Centre is actually in Cape Town, SA, (graduates need not apply). THREE UK has its Call Centre run by a team of highly regarded (in my view), professional staff, in INDIA. Just another small difference between the two different "business models" which I mentioned earlier.
Buyer Beware !

jamesconnor3, if ID have taken a Direct Debit payment in error there's no need to deal with their customer services. You can get an immediate refund from your bank through the Direct Debit Guarantee.
"In the event that an error is made in the payment of your Direct Debit*, either by the organisation or your bank or building society, you are entitled to a full and immediate refund from your bank of the amount paid.
Simply contact your bank or building society. They are responsible for refunding the money - even if the original error was made by the organisation collecting the payment."
Please tell me more? I'm about to move away from Vodafone after a number of problems trying to upgrade my wife's SIM only contract, using a 20% discount code and Quidco cash back, but their site won't currently allow this and has been broken for weeks. When you try and order the 4GB red bundle on the summary page this has turned into. 3GB deal without any warning!
If I can get her 5GB for £8.50pm that's even better!
Do I just need to ring up and complain? Already got my PAC and about to move...

I took a SIMO plan with ID last year. They have 3 types of SIMO plans - Shockproof [capped] - Takeaway [roam like home] - GoTo [data rollover]. Im on a GoTo plan 1 month rollover. Just to let you know, that the only plan that has the Data Rollover 4G is the GoTo Plan and NO OTHER. So once the 6GB is gone its gone.
Otherwise I've had no problems at all with them.

I am contacting you now, to reinstate my direct debit so that I can have
my initial £10 refunded and also the additional £10 that has been
deducted today.
Please inform me as to when I will be receiving my refunds?
And can you also confirm that everything is cancelled? As there should
NOT have been any deductions by ID mobile from my account anymore due to
my cancellation notice given several days ago for which I received a
reply confirming that it is cancelled! and further due to the fact that
you just told me in your previous email that my direct debit is not
active! hence the transaction by ID mobile on my account on 15 Mar 2016
is UNAUTHORIZED and I DO NOT give permission for ID mobile to take any

This is exactly the type of problems you can have and end up chasing people. Done it all before! I'll pay a little more, or get a little less rather than deal with poor CS. Bt, sky, orange /EE are on my naughty list. Bt and orange /EE have been sacked over billing problems and dreadful CS.

Sadly no sign of this kind of a deal in the UK yet)

i signed up for this just over a month ago and can confirm the customer support is very bad. I have been on 3GB of data rather than the promised 6GB since i started. I contacted support via email twice and got fobbed off with promises that my account would be updated soon. I have since emailed 2 more times and have received no reply over the last 2 weeks. Still a cheap deal though if i ever get the 6GB promised.

Couldn't agree more, not everyone has perfect customer service departments and if everyone avoided something because of the CS then businesses like the Co-op, NEXT, BT, Sky etc would all fade away. On the flip side, CS varies from person to person unless it is strictly regulated. Otherwise, the product (the deal in this case) outweighs the CS for me.

I did and I had no problems with them, none of the issues people are saying they get. They were polite, sorted my problem, didn't make mistakes and didn't badger me when I wanted to leave (because they couldn't change my tariff). This was at the start when they had just started up btw.

If he went for a pay monthly deal then he will need to wait 30 days before he can roam so pay as you go will be better for him.... Make sure that his phone is unlocked though.

Just checked and there is no minimum time for a pay as you go sim to be activated before going abroad.... Thanks OP.
My son is visiting the UK and Europe next month for 3 weeks, from Australia. He says local wifi will be fine but I want him to get a UK SIM card so we can keep in touch, and so he can have mobile data without international roaming (which is murderously expensive). Yes, I am a worrying dad!
This deal looks like good value, but does this carrier (3) have good coverage, and no ongoing costs? Good coverage in EU (mainly France and Italy)? Do they post internationally?
Any ideas/suggestions/comments welcome.
Thanks in advance, fellow bargaineers!
sbfc to JamesDad
9 May 16#30
I would suggest that your son gets a 3 sim only plan or pay as you go plan rather than ID.... Although it uses the same network he will find the signal much better.... With three he can use his allowance in many countries across Europe for without roaming costs... Including data which is handy.... I don't think he can on this ID contract because it is not part of their free roaming range.... You need to check out three mobiles policy on how quickly you can use their product abroad as I believe you may have to have the sim activated for a certain amount of time.

I think ID Mobile Ltd is the part of Dixons Carphone that collects the commission. The contract that we, as consumers, sign with ID is definitely with ID Communications Ltd.
The terms on the website (https://www.idmobile.co.uk/legal/terms-and-conditions) state:
""we", “iD”, "us" and "our" means iD Communications Limited, the supplier of your airtime of Star House, 20 Grenfell Road, Maidenhead, Berkshire, SL6 1EH"
Of course, you can do much better if you commit to 12 (£8.50 for unlimited txts/calls and 5GB from Vodafone retentions which seems to be the going deal currently)
billbennett1
8 May 16#14
I too had the problem with not being able to change plan. They said they could, then moved me into a plan with 0 minutes, 0 texts, and 0MB data, kept having to add bundles, charge them, then recredit them to my bill. Each time they did this, it pushed my billing date back 30 days, meaning I never actually reached a full billing cycle, and they couldn't change my plan back to a proper one.

I switched to them back in February without a problem. Word of warning though, make sure you choose the right plan.
After three weeks I realised that the user of the sim wasn't going to stay under the included minutes and data allowance (I chose the £10pm 500 minutes and 4Gb data plan), and ID wouldn't let me switch plan. I cancelled without problem and am now with a different provider. A strange business that lets it's customers walk away when all the customer wanted was to spend more money with them each month.

I think if you actually get close to 5000 texts a month, you may have a problem!

The good
- The deal I've got is fantastic and can't be beaten.
Ee seem to have listened and are starting to bring theirs back to UK.
I'd pay slightly more for UK based competent support....

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'd written that I find it strange that Three weren't happy with me having an unlimited data plan (for £12.90 p.m.), whilst by their own records I used <4Gb data per month, but they are now happy with me paying them £0.90 less per month for a package that still fits my usage?
I still find it strange that they weren't happy with me having an unlimited data plan - while by their own records only using <4Gb data and <200 mins p.m. for £12.90 - but are happy for me to now pay them £0.90 less per month for a contract that still fits my usage. Fine, let me give you less money?
- no contract (as PAYG)
- fast 4G
- 7GB
- Tether included
- unlimted texts
- 500mins

If I can get her 5GB for £8.50pm that's even better!
Do I just need to ring up and complain? Already got my PAC and about to move...
Thanks
My number just ported today.
Only bad thing about this is it might go down to just 3gb after the 12 months but they may be other deals to move over to then.
Good for you, enjoy your bargain and I'm sure you won't be back to here to say you were wrong.
There's so many reasons why you might need to call them it's not even funny!
Otherwise I've had no problems at all with them.

Okay this is just turning into a big mess!
I have just noticed that ID mobile have taken yet another £10 from my
bank account today! even though I have no active services from ID mobile
anymore as it was cancelled!
I am contacting you now, to reinstate my direct debit so that I can have
my initial £10 refunded and also the additional £10 that has been
deducted today.
Please inform me as to when I will be receiving my refunds?
And can you also confirm that everything is cancelled? As there should
NOT have been any deductions by ID mobile from my account anymore due to
my cancellation notice given several days ago for which I received a
reply confirming that it is cancelled! and further due to the fact that
you just told me in your previous email that my direct debit is not
active! hence the transaction by ID mobile on my account on 15 Mar 2016
is UNAUTHORIZED and I DO NOT give permission for ID mobile to take any
money from my account in the future either.

The refund will not be complete, due to no active direct debit

079XXXXXXXX 1st line of billing address: 11 XXXXXXX Road Postcode: XX
XXX Which iD Mobile number are you contacting us about? 07XXXXXXXXX
Which bank is your direct debit setup with? Barclays Hi, I recently took
out a sim only contract which I ended up cancelling after a few days
due
to the bad signal in my area. I cancelled this way in advance of the 14
days. For some reason I have still been deducted £10 from my bank
account on the 12 Feb 2016. £10 is what I was supposed to be charged for
a full months service if I had decided to keep it however like I
stated,
this was cancelled well within the 14 days and hence I am covered by the
distance selling regulations. Please inform me as to when I will be
refunded my £10 and this is unacceptable! I await your reply via email.
Regards.
I am now with another company (TalkMobile) and have had no problems so far.

Ee seem to have listened and are starting to bring theirs back to UK.
I'd pay slightly more for UK based competent support....
https://www.endole.co.uk/company/09214654/id-communications-limited
The terms on the website (https://www.idmobile.co.uk/legal/terms-and-conditions) state:
""we", “iD”, "us" and "our" means iD Communications Limited, the supplier of your airtime of Star House, 20 Grenfell Road, Maidenhead, Berkshire, SL6 1EH"
(And this Street View of that address kinda gives the game away too... https:[email protected],-0.722152,3a,75y,311.28h,97.68t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1slshnJn37gEHjUjqrw0aS3w!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!6m1!1e1 )
Of course, you can do much better if you commit to 12 (£8.50 for unlimited txts/calls and 5GB from Vodafone retentions which seems to be the going deal currently)
