They're expensive because they're 100% edible meat. No gristle, no fat, no prep. And erm, you could always season them. But I completely disagree that they are tasteless. Each to their own I suppose.

Ghafoor poultry does not do that. Its pure chicken breast not pumped up by water.

Not sure which part of the country you live in but anything less than £4/kg and it will be pumped full of water and beef gelatin.

If this is your experience it is likely that you are a godawful unimaginative cook, or have had some tainted chicken, cooked properly & removed from the bone you would likely not be able to tell which part of the chicken it came from in a decent pie,stir fry, etc..

This is the standard price of chicken breasts in the UK at the butchers. I've seen this price across 3 cities I've lived in in the past 8 years. Go to any turkish or Pakistani one's and they'll even marinate it for you for another quid.

No it doesn't. The pack I bought comes from the Netherlands. I buy British wherever possible.

Cold from me, I prefer to eat my chicken in the country it's killed in, this stuff comes from Poland/Romania etc etc! Buy British!!!!!

While that may be true there are several things to consider when buying fish. Is it sourced from a sustainable location? Is it farmed? Is it from a location which is known to have polluted waters? Also - you've listed only fish, which is completely different to eating poultry in every way. There are plenty of better protein sources than just the fish you've listed.
Finally, and most importantly to this site, does it work out cheaper per 100g? For a lot of the fish you have listed, no.

Muscle chicken breasts are good value and taste great.

Thank you. My local Asda only sell chicken breasts without 'free range' being written on the packets. Same with Tesco. Don't live near a Sainsbury's, but yes, very expensive and unaffordable at just under £3 per breast.

I get a box of 9-10kg of chicken breasts for £26.99 and sometimes even for £22.99 from a catering suppliers works out much cheaper than most places and the chicken is of decent quality.

We have zero waste from a chicken, cooking it over water on an "x" rack it cooks off far more nicely than plonked in amongst the juices, stays moist, deboning is simple from hot, skin is good (if you want it) ..if not the dogs get it, as they do the less meat & any residual matter from the bones / guts, I pick em very clean so it's not worth doing anything with the bones (though I could) so it go's in the recycling, unless anyone is after some stock bones.

& yes by comparison just breast is bland by itself.
I think it's time I weighed a chook & the left over matter so theres more than mere supposition on here (too many damn chicken wars) ..IF you keep a modern fridge on 1c (frost free) that properly roasted chicken would be fine to eat a week later, put 2 chickens in side by side in a fan oven & a bodybuilder / budget concious/ "whoever" can spend 20 minutes tearing down the chicken & save some cash, with a bit of practice its easy to take em down to the n'th degree .

Didn't take long to find some from top 3 supermarkets, but dang its expensive

I refuse to buy barn eggs and will only buy free range, however, I cannot for the life of me find chicken breasts from free range chucks. I confess I've been to Iceland today and bought a pack of these and it doesn't say on the front that they're free range (meaning they're not) so that makes me a complete and utter hypocrite and I feel bad about it. I'm trying to lose weight and up my protein levels and have searched high and low for free range breasts but nope, seem to be as rare as rocking horse s**t.

It's been this price for like, ever. It's a great deal though, i buy it every week for my meal prep. Great for anyone trying to get a ton of protein in their diet.

They're all dead animal, let's stop acting like we're gourmands.

I'm with you m5rcc. Chicken breast is the worst bit and most people cook it so badly stupidly dry. Thighs are much nicer.

As for de-boning a chicken, I've done it so many times I can do it with my eye's shut now. I know where every single bone is and can do it in about a minute. Just takes a little practise.

As for those claiming thigh is fatty and for people that don't care about their diets, just LOL

These are EU chicken breasts of dubious quality. Flavourless and flabby - and yes, I tried them once.

For an extra 50p a kilo, you can have UK chicken breasts from Aldi or Lidl. Or consider thigh fillets, at roughly £4.20 per kg.

Iceland's chicken breasts are pumped full of water , very very poor quality . Yes agree breasts are tasteless , but when thrown in a maggies bag with vegetables and flavouring , there very tasty .
I find Aldi chicken breasts are the best .
Asda is the worst for most meats , very poor

Lidl had diced chicken breast on offer when I shopped on Tuesday evening. Was working out to £4.85 a kilo so stocked up freezer.
Heat for this deal though. Great price per kg.

Tuna? Salmon? Halibut? Snapper? Perch? Flounder? Sole? Cod? Tilapia? More protein than chicken breast...

I would also add that these are much quicker to prepare and cook - particularly if you tend to eat more protein than the average person. I go to the gym often and chicken breast is useful because it's full of protein (always looking for good sources of protein that aren't shakes) and so quick to prepare and cook.

That being said, I wouldn't buy chicken reared in a battery. Still voting hot for the price though.

£'s/kg also includes the weight of the bones, along with the other inedible counterparts, that you've paid for and then bin.
Chicken breast is far superior meat than any other part of the chicken.
Regarding taste i suppose it's each to their own.

PERSONALLY I prefer the taste of a chicken breast, I'm not a fan of dark meat. Chicken breast aren't as you say "Typically for lazy people who cannot be bothered to debone a chicken" You're right about cost though...you can have that one.

It's a fact that meat on the bone tastes better than meat not on the bone as is a whole chicken costing less per kilo than breasts.

Personally I prefer breast to thigh, not a huge fan of dark meat and there is also less fat in a chicken breast.

Chicken breasts are often devoid of any flavour, especially at Iceland's given that they're battery chickens

Good deal if you only want 2kg but worth checking your local butcher as mine does 5kg for £25 or 10kg for £40 and it's much nicer. Only any good if you want to buy bulk though, voted hot as this will be good for some
