Well the story of the majority of titles are self-contained, so you can honestly "jump in" at any point and enjoy one of the games. You don't have to start from the beginning or anything! I'd recommend playing at least one, you might find it really enjoyable!

I think this is the worst in the series. I hated the crafting system.

If you don't have much time to play games then avoid this one. Play Tales of Symphonia and Vesperia. They're the best of the series and still hold up well to todays games.

As others have pointed out, each entry is its own story (similar to FF). There is references here and there but its not like you'd have to start from 1 in particular, just dive in :wink:
They're fun games! I love them but having played most of them they are pretty same'y.
