Great value road bike. Not the lightest but decent entry level equipment and finishing kit plus it's made by a decent manufacturer.
Ideal for anyone thinking of starting out.

I'll never be in to geek side of cycling, it's not my thing. I do fancy a ride on a bike though, so I'm fairly certain this would do all I need and I wouldn't even for myself think of any future upgrades, if it needs future upgrades then I know I have become too geek at cycling and I don't want that because I don't have/want time for it. Nothing wrong with that. Each to their own. For me I just want to get on a reasonable bike that will last on the occasion I use it and know it will work whenever I get on it.

That is enough bike for you to decide if you want to park it in the shed and forget about it, or gumtree it and spend a bunch more.
Before anyone mentions the lack of pedals, road bikes are typically ridden with cycling shoes which come with a variety of clips. As a result, pedals are very much up to the rider's tastes. If you have no preferences, they can be found for <£5 on ebay/amazon
Edit:ordered for my trainer, and to hang some spare components off. Too good to walk away from - will report back if it appears quickly.

this or the B'TWIN TRIBAN 500 SE ? i really like the look of the ribble i can upgrade group set when needed.
Whats the weight compared to the btwin ?

I would go for the Ribble due to the better components - it has a Shimano Claris groupset compared to Microshift on the Triban.

Can't see any thing worth spending the extra 50 quid for, unless you have to have a Giant sticker- the Ribble has better or equivalent components everywhere.
The big brands use partial groups sets and replace the other bits with crap to hit a price point.
I am a big fan of the new brands like Ribble and Planet X

I thinking of selling the groupset on this and handle bars and changing this to a upright riser handle bars using a shimano 105 10 speed ( got dble 105 crank for £38 of Ribble ).
Does anyone know if the wheels on this will take a 10 speed cassette? Or will I need change wheels

It would good if the bike was given specifications on their site. Far too brief to answer your question.

The weight is about 10kg without pedals, bottle cage or any other usual frame/handlebar clutter. it's almost £1000 less than a friend paid for his ribble r872, and about 4kg heavier; so it seems to be that it costs about £300+ for each kilogram lost
Quality wise, it feels better than most bikes around that price point; iTm finishing kit, jagwire cabling and swalbe lugano tyres that are about £50 a pair (normally you get really bog standard tyres with a ribble unless you upgrade).
The claris groupset does the job; it's probably as good if not better than a 10 year old 8 speed sora on the carlton. The wheelset looks ok, and seems to run smoothly enough, the black spokes are a nice touch.
Least important (and also most important) the bike is really easy on the eye. from a distance it looks like a carbon frame as it is sculpted rather than round tubes welded together. The top tube has, at the size my friend bought, a pleasing slope that makes it look very modern, and the top tube itself has internal cable routing, which tidies things up a tad.
Im tempted to buy one myself even though i have not owned a road bike for more than 20 years but i do have a hybrid bike stashed away in the shed .
Having said that you can get some very nice used bikes off ebay as i bought a Carrera hybrid which was a few months old for £150,it cost £350 on halfords at the time.

I'd say ask Ribble. I had a very similar idea - I happen to have a fair mix of Tiagra and 105 10 speed stuff kicking about. I suspect you might need a new Bottom Bracket, I assume the 105 is a Hollowtech II and the small amount of spec does say this is Octalink. So many wheels are 8/9/10 these days - but I also would be interested to know.

You can log in and check the purchase status, but in picking is essentially the first after-purchase stage. 'Picking' can be a week - they have to build up the bikes often (e.g. this model was available as a flatbar recently) and tune them. I imagine you will have your bike in a week to ten days, having asked them over the phone. I imagine they made a few up speculatively. Would be interested to hear when the first bikes start arriving.

Well, I'm distinctly unimpressed with Ribble. I've just had an email to say that they aren't going to fulfill my order:
Unfortunately I have been asked to contact you regarding the above order number. During a recent promotional offer in which we offered the Ribble Prime at £250 we also suffered a server error where our feed was not being updated, allowing customers to order parts, accessories and bicycles which had already been purchased by another customer. In this case it means that we will be unable to fulfil the order you placed, as it had already been purchased by someone before you placed your order.
Really not very impressed with this, especially as I've emailed and "live chatted" several times during the last week to check on my order status.

My thoughts exactly...utter lack of customer service! They appear to have taken payment as well, but are in the process of refunding me...double insult!

I've had the bike for around a week and been out for a couple of rides. Very happy with it. It also looks great - black and white and rather sleek. I was a bit concerned about the performance of Shimano Claris as it's Shimano's bottom-of-the-range groupset. However, this was unfounded as there seems to be very little difference between Shimano Claris and Sora in terms of shifting performance, judging against a mate's Specialized Allez bike with Sora. The only significant difference seems to be 8 vs 9 speeds, but given that my commuter bike is a 7 speed, 8 is quite enough.
Surprisingly the bike came with pedals, toe clips and straps, though I found them pretty awful and I've replaced them with clipless SPDs. It also came with a spare rear derailleur hanger, which is a nice touch in case the one fitted gets bent.
The brakes are unbranded but work fine and were well adjusted out of the box. The front and rear derailleurs are set up ok but will need a bit of tuning. There was a lot of rattle coming from one of the shifters but that was solved by greasing it. The bike comes with a decent number of headset spacers meaning that I've been able to raise the handlebar position - I'm used to commuting 30km on a hybrid so will need some time to adjust to the road bike riding position so that's useful.
Stem, bars and seatpost are all ITM "xx7". There's very little info about this range by ITM but it looks good and is a well-known brand. The carbon fork seems to absorb vibration effectively but isn't as quite comfy as my hybrid, but that has a much more upright riding position and 700x42c tyres to deal with towpaths and potholes. The handlebar tape is a bit thin and squidgy compare to the Specialized but you can't complain at this price.
I bought some gloves, a set of lights, CO2 inflator and a saddle bag from Aldi for under £20 which round off the package nicely. Also planning to fit clip-on mudguards (no mudguard eyes on the frame) and a lightweight rack (there are eyelets and bosses for a rear rack).
Overall, a lot of bike for £250. If it comes back in stock, highly recommended.
