There is simply no way that the user account settings on a Windows computer have created a brand new password for your old account without your intervention. That just does not and can not happen.
If you are using a version of Windows older than Windows 10, then there are a number of ways to break into the account without losing any files. Just do a keyword search on Google and follow the how-to threads. & once you get your files back, make a backup! Hard drives fail about every 5-7 years...so you were more than likely always going to end up losing your 'precious' photos. At least this problem gives you some chance of recovery

You can buy a NEW HP Stream 11 for £40 more? And also I wouldn't trust Argos refurbishments I've heard a lot of bad things about them.

They are very easy to deal with if you have a problem

So you'd willingly spend £40 extra for that 'just new' smell?! I guess you must be new around here!
(Hot deal - shame it's in pink!)

I didn't think they tended to be refurbished, the one's I've got tended to look like change-of-mind returns.

Friend got one of these, popped windows 10 on from a usb, did a clean upgrade, is removed everything and it's very quick, impressed, for anyone whos interested windows was showing 89 processes running on a clean boot from Argos, after windows 10 62, think mcafee that's preinstalled pretty much kills it.
Id recommend using double driver to save all the drivers from windows 8 and if your not comfortable setting it up without a mouse grab a usb mouse too.
Honestly shocked how quick these are, was 12gb free space after upgrading to 10 and installing office 2013 that's including the old windows 8 install ready to rollback too

I work as am IT refurbisher, there's nothing to be scared of, if the job's done properly the equipment will be good. You can always have failures but that is true of new machines. Quite often refurbished can mean a customer return with or without a fault, or just open box, ex demo stock which should work like new.

Considering I'm blocked out of the PC due to password recovery nonsense and not having said usb Thankyou Bill Gates, I need one asap :sunglasses:

You need to have made the USB, that's what it's telling you. If you didn't then you can't make one after you're locked out otherwise it would be pointless security! It's easy to remove the password from a standard user account, if you've logged in using an email address you need to know the password for that login and can't be removed as per user account method.

Why do you hold a grudge against Microsoft for keeping your data safe?! Literally the most silly of reasons to be annoyed.
