Recently I signed up to Free Home Phone and Unlimited Broadband in branch at Baker Street London Post Office which in fact saved me £130 on BT's rip off Line reconnection charge. The post office in Baker Street, London done it for Free!
I know there is lots of Internet deals but I thought I draw people attention to the post office home phone and internet there are people like me who have trouble budgeting my bills who want to pay my bills by cash. Also if you are new to the country and need Home internet and don't have a UK bank account this a good option to get affordable home internet and pay the bill by cash.
I found it much easier to sign up at my local post office branch in Baker Street London. Darren who served me was very helpful and only took 15mins, he just needed my name, date of birth and my home address. I didn't need to provide any financial details because I wanted the cash budget card. I was given my engineer appointment and time on the spot. I was told any problem go back and see him and he would resolve.
I am happy to report my new line was installed and up and running on the correct date and time given. My internet speed is 12mbps which is exceptional.

It's available from any main post office branch. Go in, and ask about it. I work in one. We can arrange it there and then in most cases

Does anybody know what happens to the 12 months free broadband offer if you move home? I've been trying to get a sensible email response from support regarding this for over a week, without any luck. I think the T&C on the website say you have to start a new 18 month term, which it to be expected these days, but there's nothing about the 12 month free offer.
Has anyone that has signed up to this seen anything in their T&C about home moving?

I never said Talk Talk owned the line or the network for that matter. What I actually said was the the Post Office's phone and Broadband are run by TalkTalk which it is that is why I said 'They have completely went downhill since using Talktalk' Then I said 'The problem is it is not their network so when things go wrong they will do nothing. Also, if things go wrong that are specifically their fault (like admin errors) they will also do nothing. ' I even made a distinction between network/openreach problems and admin/customer service problems (Post Office/talktalk issues).

This is a stupid comment, open reach act as the wholesaler here in effect, it's like saying I want an apple computer but John Lewis are charging £1049, rip off as it only costs Apple £650 to make it

What a load of rubbish . Talk talk dont own the line either. If you have a problem with your internet or phone , then , Talk Talk, Post Office, BT will all use the same people, which is " Open Reach" whom have the monopoly on the lines and the work and exchanges.
Which ever service provider you have will make an appointment with an Open Reach engineer to call. You can ask the engineer questions when he calls. Usually the fault is the software in the exchange , designed to slow you down , and the profile needs resetting.
It is only if you dont use a phone line for your internet , like have a cable service , then there would be a difference. So using the Post Office will be just as bad as using BT ( who keep putting their prices up).

I do have an NTE5 box here, however the wires have eroded in the box, any attempt to move them results in breakages as I found out when moving the socket previously. Wires are still single colour stands so that's a clue as to how old the set up is.

My contact runs out in 10 days if I took this offer and in 3 months time I move to new build homes where there is no line installed. Do I need to pay for new line. If so how much?
CURRENTLY WITH EE, they told they will do for free.

To be honest they wont bother changing the cables they will slap a new box inside and leave the rest as they wont want to run new cables unless they have a fault. I would change it myself and buy the bit on ebay. As long as you get an openreach box then any issues at a later date just say it was done previously by your provider.
I certainly fid, which is why the Telecoms Ombudsman had it overturned. Now I'm having to do it all over again, and I'll be taking them to court this time, after they have overturned it again. Passing my personal details onto this lovely circle of debt collectors for a non-existent debt is an obvious breach of data protection.

Your story sounds terrible but the trouble is there are similar horror tales for all the providers. You might have just been unlucky. Did you check all the small print in your contract about new line activation and router delivery/installation charges?

I have, with Equifax, and I can see no mention of the agreement or unpaid amount on there.
Nothing at all. Whether it's on a report from a different company, I don't know, but Post Office haven't even bothered to reply to my formal complaint. I'll let Telecoms Ombudsman deal with it now, and when they find in my favour, I'll get them to make sure that there's no trace of it on my credit report.

Bits or Bytes though? There is a massive difference, for example if you are taking your speeds from speedtest it will give you it in bits which are 1/8 of a byte, where if you was to take your speed from somewhere like steam it will show in bytes

BB is diabolical - parents have post office only for phone line . When I play online games/browse on my phone it is beyond slow. My estimated speeds are 12.9 -18.00 so speed should not be an issue

i just renewed with EE, if i pay the full £189 yearly line rental you get free broadband, works out £15.45 a month. Perfect for me as I'm near the exchange, always get 15-19mb (peak and off peak).

Sorry, should've mentioned that I can't get Virgin. I guess it's most likely to be whatever deal Plusnet have as I can't bear to go back to, and have to deal with talktalk again...but if there are any other suggestions I'd be happy to hear them.

Post office do offer a good deal and you can pay extra for unlimited calls and internet and get free mobile calls at weekends.
BT have paid so much for sport deals that they continually keep trying to find ways to increase your bill.
The advantage of BT is you are supposed to be able to use their internet hot spots for internet throughout the country, and if you have a fault with your phone or broadband you can ask what the weather is like in India and if you have a dispute with your bill , you can ask what the weather is like in the Philippines !

BEWARE.
I had Post office Homephone & broadband about 5 years back. When I got to the end of my 12 month contract, my final bill came in at £188. It wasn't itemised, it just said it was this much, so I called them to enquire why my bill was £150 more than it should be. I was told that it was a fitting/installation/line activation charge. Line was active anyway and I installed the router as it came through the post. Long story, but I ended up getting in touch with the Telecoms Ombudsman who found in my favour and overturned the charge...
January, this year, I received a debt collector letter through the post, claiming for this amount again, on behalf of Post Office, now owned by TalkTalk, I believe. I'm still battling it now, and have the Telecoms Ombudsman on the case again. Post Office have "sold on" a non-existent debt and have ignored all of my complaint letters. once Telecoms Ombudsman has finished with their investigation, and no doubt will find in my favour, I'm taking Post Office to small claims.
I know it's a personal case and all that, but this is the type of people that you're dealing with here. I'm not the only one: a quick search and there are unfortunately numerous other cases of exactly the same thing.

If you can get Virgin in your area have a look on uSwitch etc. they were offering 50mb broadband on 12 month contract for £5pm plus usual line rental. I put in 2 requests couple of months back and rang them twice, but no one got back to me to confirm if available in my area, even though neighbours on either side of me can get it, so ended up staying with Sky for another 12 months at £10pm fibre plus line rental :disappointed:

I had home phone with broadband with post office till Nov 2014 for over 5 years. Good customer service but BT copper network no fibre. So in Manchester city I was getting 5mbps speeds. So I moved to plusnet which gave me a fantastic deal. Post office had free weekend calls to Intl numbers. This deal by op is good.

That offer seems to require a Sky TV bundle too, which is a min of £10 per month, so no, it's not a better offer if all you're after is telephone/Internet.

Apparently not trully unlimited as speed is throttled once you exceed 100GB within each month.
Free bb for 12 months is only available for new customer. Shame, as I already have my main phone line with them. Feature wise it is one of the better ones and also the cheapest if you take out line rental saver.
Also wary of the number of bad reviews for the bb service is putting me of.:disappointed:
Oh and on an additional note I recently rung them enquiring about call charges to a few strange numbers (such as an 008000, yes 008000 as well as a few international calls as google/their site didn't give an indication.
All I was told was to make the calls & see how much they cost when my bill is generated or to buy an international call bundle for £5 a month, no help from them what so ever.

If you need a new line, it is free line installation.
Go into any main branch and so long as there's no tech issues, your estimated speed can be checked.
Seeing as Open Reach refuse to take work on directly and has to be done by your Service provider that means a call to Post office is at hand, however the Post office want £160 for the same job, they say it's their admin costs that inflate it which is a poor excuse.
I would do it myself but the wire from the telephone mast to the house is easily 35+ years old & hasn't faired the elements well over the years so any attempt to move it would probably break it.

Actually it's 6 times as fast as mine with 2mb being regarded as "good" in this area (in the last 6 months they've brought fibre into the area and it's a blessing at 30mb but obviously it costs a lot more!)

Edit it does say in FAQ If we need to arrange a new phone line into your property or you are switching from a cable based provider such as Virgin it may take a bit longer.
