If it's like the 43" (which I suspect it is), the SD picture is woeful. Took my 43" back. Dont know how Philips are still in the game!

Philips stuff is generally good, but they just don't seem to make great TV's.
However cracking value.
A review for the 6xxx model suggests the following:
They recommend... For the record, the areas I'd recommend you spend the most time playing with are noise reduction (I'd suggest switching this off for all UHD and most HD content); the Natural Motion system (which should never be set higher than its lowest power setting, or else turned off entirely); the Contrast mode (which should be set to Standard rather than Best For Picture or Best For Power); the Ultra Resolution system (which I would recommend turning off for most content); and the Dynamic Contrast feature (which I would suggest you only use on its Minimum level).

TP Vision own and license out the manufacturer of all Phillips TVs now, and have for a while.
Which is confusing for us consumers because it makes it incredibly difficult to work out who actually makes the panels in each of their sets.
Having played around with mine, I suspect this is a Vestel or equivalent.
Very low quality panel IMHO.

I have the 40" version (40put6400). I am finding the colours are a bit washed out compared to my old Samsung smart TV. Anyone know what settings would give me the best picture?

The blacks really are grey on this. I've tried multiple configs. looks great during the day and Black's look dark but in dark lighting and at night a grey sheen seems to eminate unfortunately.

The settings that worked best for me were:
Box it back up. Send it back.
I'd also be really interested to see how anybody got a decent picture out of this.
Spent ages fiddling with the settings!
Managed to get them much improved from "out the box", but the picture was still really poor compared to me old 1080 Samsung set, and they were still worse than the Hisense I ended up keeping was "out the box".
Presume this is a rebadged cheap set or something, because I was a bit shocked given I've always associated Phillips with making decent quality stuff.

For a 55inch 4K telly, can't complain - managed to get this for just under £405 with the 10% off offer they had a couple of weeks ago, plus vouchers I had that needed using up - ended up only paying £290 cash. Obviously not as great as Samsung, Sony, LG or other high end brands but for what I paid for it, definitely a bargain! Ultimately, I got a 55inch 4K telly for under £300! Can't complain and haven't experienced any issues with the HDMI as I did the update staright out of the box.

I done the same. Done the firmware upgrade, spent ages messing with settings. Put it side by side with my 10 year old Sony and put the dark Knight bluray through both. Sony was still miles better! Took it back for a refund

bought the 43 inch last week for my bedroom tv. was worried about input lag as also using it for a gaming pc monitor but cant seem to tell the diffrence between my sony w8 in the livingroom ( seemingly good response times) and this......never watched anything standard defenition on it mind so cant comment on that but at least 720 content looks pretty good to me.
Have noticed the greyish blacks as mentoined previously but tweaking the picture settings (all presets are rubbish) has made it infinitely better.
Heat from me.

Have to agree, I too have the 43 inch version and all he built in presets are terrible, which is a shame because it gives the average user a bad first impression of the tv. If you properly calibrate and use some custom colour settings it's capable of a stunning picture for the price... For some reason all the presets have the sharpness up way way too high and it looks terrible. I can provide my settings for anyone that goes for this, it's made a stunning picture for me on ps4 and PC using both 1080p and 4K content

It's the 55" 391u model.
Cost me £449 from Argos using the eBay 20% off voucher a while back.
Think the cheapest you can get it now is at AO for £499.
Alot of people returned this the last time it was posted, blacks being Grey, picture being overall bad etc. Turned me of it.

I was one of them. Spend all day trying all the settings. Nothing. Greys were very disturbing to watch once noticed - which took less than a minute. And picture quality was worse than my five year old Sony set. Not for the fussy watchers.

If this is like other philips tvs that have a speaker on the back be prepared to buy a sound bar if you wall mount it. The sound echoes from the rear wall and sounds awful.

We got this for £394 after cashback etc a few weeks ago. Black is very grey, HDMI 2 has a tendency to tune out of its own accord and picture quality not that much better than our 10 yr old HD Samsung. Disappointing but keeping it until it really goes wrong by which time hopefully a better one will be on a similar price deal!
