Came at the wrong time for me as I've just bought a Sealey TP69P, but had this been around at this price two days ago I'd have jumped at the chance.
I'm not going to get involved in the debate about sump plug versus top drain, as it's all been said before; however for those looking for an oil sucker, you could do worse than choose this.
The Pela 6000 Oil Changer packs in all the punch and power of the bigger models into a smaller and much more affordable model. All you need to do pump between 10 and 20 times to create a powerful vacuum. The oil is captured nicely in the sturdy, see-through container with a capacity of 6.0 litres.

Life is made much easier with the PELA 6000 Oil Changer as it lets you know how much oil you’ve removed and includes a useful pour spout to assist with emptying. You can remove the pump for storage purposes too.
I'll look out for the oil change pit stops at Sochi, I must admit it must be so fast that I hadn't noticed them up to now.

People keep saying this but I've used a pela for over 10 years and whenever I do an oil change using the drain hole it doesnt make any difference.
I put a can of oil flush in and then drain with the pela.
Maybe if you use really cheap **** oil then you might get sludge, but I only ever use good quality fully synthetics. And if you have debris in your oil then how you do the oil change is the least of your problems.

Draining the oil is much better as you're more likely to get rid of any debris/sludge,the pumps will almost certainly leave it in the sump leading to increased wear.

Forgive my ignorance here, but is this really necessary? Is it to avoid having to lift car to drain thru sump?

Not neccessary, but well worth having.
My cars have lots of undertay stuff that is a pain to get off - one car has around 20 bolts that need removing. My Pela makes an oil change a 10 min job and no risk of getting oil all over the drive or myself.
Remember that it isn't only for engine oil. Gearbox and diff oil changes are also easy (for those of us who don't believe the 'sealed for life' rubbish)

I bought a Silverline equivalent from Amazon for about £18. It does a pretty good job, but I would have bought the Pela had it been this cheap.

Smart car owners only have the option to "pump" as there's no sump plug.
As to my car, the sump plug is raised slightly from the base of the sump so even draining won't remove everything. Having said that I still drain 1 in 3 oil changes and pump the other 2.

What I don't understand with these is how do you change the oil filter from the top if the car has a metal spin on filter?

I have 180k miles on my car and for the past 130k changed the oil with one of these and no problems. Well worth it for saving the hassle of removing under trays etc.

the tp69 is a brilliant bit of kit. I use it every 6 months on my pd golf. Makes a home oil change so much easier
Had never seen ones of these before some polish guys were using one. He uses it every few months to pump it out and uses a coffee filter to filter it and then puts the oil back in and tops it up. Not sure how many miles his VW Bora has now but it probably over 250,000 km.
I think it's quite common to pump out summer oil and keep it while running winter oil and swap it back in the spring in Poland.
Probably all a bit over the top for us in the UK.

I have been using a Sealy extractor pump for nearly 10 years now on a 1.9 TDI Golf. it's done 200,000 miles now with no problems. It gets 2 oil changes a year. I an employed as technical support for a major truck manufacturer and have no issues with top drain over bottom drain. It's certainly a lot quicker and less messy.

I like the idea of these, but considering an oil change should include a filter change, then you need to get under the car anyway!!
Good price though.

True, and you get to miss the 'thrill' of fishing for the sump drain plug and/or washer in the hot oil...
Been using one of these on a variety of cars for a decade with no problems, recently I went to use it and i couldn't get any suction: turns out the tiny little rubber disk that forms the valve had perished, replaced that and back to normal.
Also useful for when the washing machine conks out and you need to empty it before unblocking the outlet pipe..again...

Ive had this for the past 6 years, and it makes the car service so much easier. I also manage to get more oil out than draining it from the bottom. A worthwhile investment if you service your car, my friends end up borrowing it time to time. I paid about £15 more at the time, £29.99 is a steal.

Many oil filters are accessed from the top, both our cars are top access. Thanks OP, maybe the cars will get the oil change they are due.

I can see the benefit of one of these. As long as the filter is replaced then sludge shouldn't be a problem.
Now as long as you don't do a Kwik Fit and think you can do a brake fluid change with one you'll be fine.

I also meant to say. These are ideal if you have a car under a service agreement and it's your car to keep. That way you can do an oil change half way though the service intervals if you want too.

I normally get the oil hot before draining. Can the oil be hot when you use this, or does it need to be cold?
Anyone tried using this after using engine flush? Didn't damage it at all?

Sounds good, it's about time manufacturers put oil filters in accessible places. I've never been able to access a filter from above, my wife's old Almera was the worst. It was high enough on the engine to be accessed from above, but the exhaust manifold made sure it was impossible. Which meant getting underneath and having to reach so far up that you were in a few inches reach of the bonnet!!
damadgeruk
1 May 161#42
I didn't say it was easily accessible from above. ;-) I'm sure manufacturers make access difficult on purpose, Megane headlight bulb change required wheel removal!

Most modern cars have magnets lying in the bottom of the sump , and the sump plug is usually magnetic to catch the bits. Extractors might save time , but you cannot beat doing the job properly.
If you have a cover under the engine , then look out for Halfords and Kwick fit oil and filter change deals as often they are only a few quid more than you could do it yourself for.
I have come to the conclusion that all Smart car drivers I have come across are driven
by idiots who cannot park without hitting something or driving erratically. Do not park near one or leave a space between you and the next park car the size of a wheely bin or a smart car driver will think they can get in the gap. If you see them on the road over take them, which is not hard to do , as they are a menace.
