We use it instead of other oils for cooking, it makes a nice change to EV Olive oil, can also be tasty on some nice bread (like a baguette) if you want a quick snack to stop a craving or fill a gap until you eat later. Another really tasty thing to use is a hemp oil + cocnut oil mix like we got from here : http://www.realfoodstore.co.uk/organic-hemp-seed-oil-blended-with-virgin-coconut-oil/
Hemp seed oil gives you the added omega 3/6 goodness.

How to use coconut oil in your cooking

Coconut oil is great for boosting metabolism, and it can help improve insulin levels and cholesterol… and it tastes great too! Here are some ways you can use it in your own kitchen:

As a replacement for vegetable oil in baking and frying
As a substitute for butter… try spreading it on your toast!
Mix with chia seeds for a super-effective energy boost
Use as a basis for salad dressings
Put a scoop in your coffee instead of milk or cream A spoonful of coconut oil in your morning smoothie maxes out the nutrient content and adds a gentle, pleasant flavour
How to use coconut oil in your health regime

Unsurprisingly, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant coconut oil has loads of health uses too!

Melt into a cup of tea to soothe a sore throat
Use on you or baby to treat nappy rash, cradle cap and prevent stretch marks
Rub inside your nose to help lessen the symptoms of allergies
Soothe sunburn, itches and bites (including mosquito bites) by using as a calming cream
How to use coconut oil in your beauty regime

Rub it on your skin then rinse or wipe off with cotton wool to remove make-up (even the waterproof stuff)
Massage into dry skin as a body moisturiser. It can help soothe psoriasis and eczema too
Rub into cuticles to soften them and stop your nails from cracking
Give damp hands a treat and use as a moisturising hand cream
Mix with salt or sugar to create an all-natural exfoliator
Use in place of shaving cream for silky smooth skin
Heat and leave in your hair for half an hour before washing to banish dryness
Treat lines and wrinkles while you sleep by using as a night cream

& at 75p a pop if you can find it... a lot more!

Its got a huge following on the net and worth looking up.

Now that's bloody worth it!!! Up until now, I've been paying £16.79 for a 500g jar at Holland and Barrets. Didn't know it was only £2.99!! Bloody eck' it's a steal at £2.99, at 75 p it's virtually free!! Is this a store specific deal ? I'd take the lot!!
GuigsyUK
8 Apr 16 1 #50
I use it for cooking... because it tastes nice in stir fry and sweeter curries. You've got to keep the temperature low though because it smokes at a much lower temp than even olive oil.

I'm pretty sure there's now quite a lot of evidence saying that the health claims are baseless. It's a fad food. It's very calorific. Once you overheat it an smoke it, it denatures into really nasty stuff that's definitely bad for you. You may as well be frying in crispy bacon fat.

Oh, and for cooking, it doesn't go very far. It's just about a solid at room temperature and when it melts it reduces in volume, not sure why. I'd guess you need a tablespoon of solid out of the jar to make a teaspoon of liquid oil in the pan.

I've been using coconut oil lately for 'oil pulling' - it's meant to be good for your teeth and gums to swish it around your mouth for 15-20 mins twice a day. Been doing it for 2 weeks now and at first it wasn't easy to do for more than a few minutes but I'm getting used to it now and I do feel like my teeth are cleaner.

And as long as drones like you are responding in that way, they'll keep getting away with it won't they? You're doing their bidding and they don't even pay you a salary for doing so

As I said, if you want to live your life listening to people that view you like livestock, eating their processed, low-fat, high sugar junk food, go ahead - it's certainly not something I'd enjoy. Don't worry though, I'm sure they've got miracle drugs comprised of more of their man-made chemicals to fix the damage that arises from the above.

When I say "they" I'm referring to the drug companies who are also associated with food companies of course, that's proven though you'll likely just shrug it off as a "tin foil hat comment" because it's easier than facing it. I don't care, enjoy your poor health and nutrient-dead food.

Eat the stuff but don't think it's a super food. It turns out that coconut oil isn't a medium chain tryglyceride. The most abundant fat in coconut oil, over 50% of it is lauric acid which was classed as a medium chain but it turns out that isn't true and it gets processed by the liver just like any other long chain ('bad') fat. Of its fat content 85% is long chain. It has a few good fats but that makes coconut oil good for you in the way that putting a slice of lemon in a bottle of beer makes it good for you.

Go to 36 and a half minutes through this podcast to listen to what the dietitian Professor Clare Collins has to say about eating coconut oil. Twice the saturated fat of bacon and not remotely healthy.

So eat it but just know that it's not healthy and maybe moderate because of that if you need to.
dalipsinghno1
8 Apr 16 1 #74
I don't care if it's store specific... If I was leaving near I would have gone, so I would appreciate if there is a deal near me and is posted to let me know.....

I use it for Oil pulling,

just a tea spoon full to start with, increasing it bit at a time enough to allow the oil to move around. Put in mouth and let it melt then swoosh side to side slowly never vigorously. Recommended for about 20min but if your cheeks get tired rest for a min, if your mouth fills with excess saliva take some out enough to make effect.

Dispose in toilet never in sink as the oil will set and clog the pipes(Unless you have one of those food disposal unit underneath).

This will clean debris and remove plaque from the mouth. You can brush afterwards as normal.

Here is the pic every one is looking out for

The total misinformation put out 50 years ago by the World Health Organisation (people who get back handers and are not to be trusted) has since been proven to be untrue. The WHO were doing favours for the American multinational oil producers who feared the impact on their business from other oil suppliers. Hence we got the "polyunsaturated oils are great.....Everyone should switch to it" (will destroy your health, producing cancer, heart disease and adversely affect autoimmune illness due to the high Omega 6 oil content and the unnatural Omega3:Omega 6 ratio).

BTW If High Cholesterol was as harmful as is claimed, the human body would not produce such large amounts as most cholesterol is produced by the human body and not gained from outside the body. The human body knows what is right far better than any doctor or scientist. Cholesterol is required by the human body to repair the human nervous system and taking crappy statins to lower cholesterol short circuits what the human body is attempting to do - repair damage

IMO it's better to let the body do what it is attempting to do rather than mess around and stop it. It's better to take appropriate nutrients to counter any possible negative effect such as Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate (vit b6), TriMethylGlycine (eat beetroot), Folates (eat your green veg), Magnesium etc. Eating Japanese style Natto can be beneficial or taking Nattokinase or Serrapeptase if you have any circulatory problems.

It's not, nothing on its own is. People are victims of marketing with "super foods" and things too. Even fruit juice isn't great for you, drinking litres of isolated fructose? Not good.

Simply don't eat processed foods, a good indicator that works with most things is, if I come across this in the wild, can I eat it in the form that I find it? If so, it's probably ok to eat. Meat, eggs etc is included in that since in the past that would have been true, these days it's not advisable due to how these things are produced.

Grains are NOT healthy, they are NOT human foods, this includes corn and soy. No, they haven't been eating bucket loads of the stuff in Asia for centuries. This isn't about GMOs, pesticides etc, although those could be a problem too, this is about the fact that humans aren't designed to eat grains, sure you can eat them but you're likely to become fat, diseased and inflammed.

Oils, animal fat is best along with coconut or extra virgin olive oil. It's obviously best if your oil has been extracted mechanically rather than chemically, solvents are not human foods either. Other oils can be toxic and are really high in Omega 6. If you're taking one of these supplements with omega 6 - you're an idiot, nobody in the western world is deficient in omega 6, chances are you're already having way too much of it.

Look around you, the majority of people listening to the government, scientists and corporations are as fat and diseased as they've ever been and are gullible enough to think that maybe just following a bit more of this advice is going to finally do the trick.

As if by design a massive article about sugar vs Fat turns up in the Guardian.
"In 2008, researchers from Oxford University undertook a Europe-wide study of the causes of heart disease. Its data shows an inverse correlation between saturated fat and heart disease, across the continent. France, the country with the highest intake of saturated fat, has the lowest rate of heart disease; Ukraine, the country with the lowest intake of saturated fat, has the highest. When the British obesity researcher Zoë Harcombe performed an analysis of the data on cholesterol levels for 192 countries around the world, she found that lower cholesterol correlated with higher rates of death from heart disease."

You keep posting this on the Coconut Oil deals, so I am compelled to respond.

So what do you recommend instead. You don't want saturated fats and you don't want anything LCTs which are most unsaturated fats.

Do you have any proper source by the way for what you say as all I can find on the topic is the opposite, which I'm linking here:
http://philjournalsci.dost.gov.ph/vol143no2/pdf/Lauric%20acid%20is%20a%20mediuam%20chain%20fatty%20acid.pdf
http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11746-014-2562-7

In terms of that podcast, she uses the fact that 90% is saturated to say it's bad, which is a myth that's been widely debunked. She claims the other 10% is stearic acid and is the only good thing about the oil. Well stearic acid is actually a longer chain saturated fat, which in older studies has been linked with adverse health effects. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14576758
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10584044
Also it is minimal in coconut oil, and given her adversity towards saturated fats, I suspect she has confused it with oleic acid, which is unsaturated. Of the two others she mentioned, both are saturated, one being negligible within coconut oil; I suspect she meant caprylic rather than caproic. Then there's the myth that the cholesterol is anything to worry about.

What a nice little pointless rant. How do you know about the over consumption of omega 6?... that's right scientists. :stuck_out_tongue:

There wasn't that much against coconut oil was there? It's absolutely no worse than anything else, so if you like the taste of coconut then give it a go.
