I've been toying with picking one of these up on and off for a while, but always managing without. This is the cheapest I've seen it so finally picked it up - cheaper than the lower end model in the range and a fair bit cheaper than anywhere else I've found it.
Bare tool, appropriate case (141354-7) is £20 at toolstop, which is a pretty good deal as well, if needed and if you can find £5 worth of other stuff to put to good use to qualify for free shipping.
Happy sawing.

I agree, having the right tool for the job is key. I've spent years 'managing' but i cannot explain how useful some of these things are. Worth taking the plunge every now and again!

Why spend £80+ if you have always managed without one.
You can get Screwfix Cordless Erbauer brand for £60

Because "managing" and having the correct tool for the job are not the same thing, and because I already have a stack of Makita batteries and charger, as do I'm sure many (all?) others who have bought this?
And also, because reciprocating saws are just about the most fun there is in power tools.

I think the idea with these deals at they're aimed at people who already have batteries - i.e. they've got a drill set already.

3.0Ah batteries. Bear in mind that you do not have to run them flat as they are memory protected so you can use for 10mins then start a reccharge.

Can you use this model one handed? I used the makita DJR185Z mini recip saw at the weekend to cut up an old wooden shed, but I needed the one handed use it permits to do it.
It annihilated it

Don't have a battery one but have mains driven, seldom used but when I do use it, its a life saver... some jobs are virtually impossible without one. Brilliant bit of kit. Defo recommend!

What Ah are these? Just be careful as I think this is keyed so it only takes the 3Ah and above as I have a 1.5 and it doesn't fit... the reason being is that you can get through a 3Ah battery in 15 minutes if using it non-stop.
Awesome tool though - using mine pretty much all day yesterday cutting up wood!

I have 3 new 1830 batteries - they charge up in 22 minutes as they are fan cooled, so no problem. But you should know that though, surely......./

It's not that bad - you can saw up a pallet on one 4ah battery. It was more an observation than a complaint. It's a seriously powerful recip saw - it's a beast. The only time I've noticed the battery use is when I've been continuously sawing up firewood. For most tasks, the battery outlives the task.

I have one of these - awesome bit of kit. Thought I'd seldom use it, but there is rarely a job I don't. Great for demolition, cutting steel, pallets, nails, or just getting a saw into awkward places. Heavy on battery but so good.

Just how heavy on batteries? I have a stack of BL1830s but none of the larger ones - I don't mind the odd swap, but too frequently might be a bit of a pain.

Have one of these, highly recommend for rough quick cuts. Had to chop up some old fence posts 4" thick with big nails in and it was like a knife through butter. Eats batteries though so make sure you have two.

Yeah, definitely one for someone already bought into Makita's 18v system - a single battery and charger on their own would probably be more than the tool again.

If I had the kit already I'd be tempted, but can't justify extra on batteries that fit nothing else I own. Still voting hot as good if you own compatible kit.
