In what sense? If you're referring to switching, there's nothing wrong with the Windows Phone Series.
Maybe he got it as a temp. replacement?

Do you have to pay min £10 top up too? Making it £49.99?

Not with O2. They force you to select a SIM with a pre-defined bundle, they don't force you to buy a top-up when purchasing the handset though, they expect you to purchase the top-up afterwards.
Note from O2's checkout page: "Your sim will be ready to use once you've added the right amount of credit, and you can switch from different tariffs without being tied down."

Lumia's are quite difficult to unlock, unless on the Vodafone network. Maybe check with your local phone shop to see if they can unlock them?

i got it as im getting married and saving up for a holiday so a phone is 3rd place lol
Am quite tempted to get this phone but my sim is currently a micro one and it needs to be a nano. I am with virgin, does anybody know if they could send me out a nano sim as a replacement for me? Don't fancy cutting it myself like people recommend online.

Think they can do in store but definitely can do over the phone. Oh and I'd avoid this phone like the plague. Most returned handset we see for software faults

Thanks. If I spoke over the phone they would be happy to just send a nano sim out with no charge then? No Virgin store in the town where I live. :disappointed:
Damn do you have any more info you could give in regards to returned handsets? Might be worth me spending a bit more for a 650 then as I can't quite decide between the two. Would love a 950 but can't justify the price.

Try chatting with them online, if they do that, or failing that you will have to phone them.

Yes but unlocked! And ebay states if box is opened cannot be listed as 'NEW', could be display or just opened box and it comes with 12mths warranty anway saves trying to unlock it if you want this model

Switched from iPhone to a 930 months ago. Great phone but lack of "apps" and quality of main stream ones resulted to me going back to iOS.

It depends if you like using windows phones though. I've tried a Lumia and did not like it. I also bought a windows tablet and also do not like it. As you say there's nothing wrong with the devices. Windows is excellent on a laptop or desktop, as far as I'm concerned but thoroughly miserable on a mobile device...

i agree windows can be hard work. i think the 550 still has resale value when you look on ebay at least £30 so for someone who just wants a spare or as for me a phone til i can pay off my wedding it is ok just as a phone i have a chromebook and tablet so havent really used my phone except for casting

Yeah it makes a lot more sense to buy this type of product versus some unknown Chinese phone that has good looking specifications and essentially no guarantee.

No they are not. Just a matter of finding a friend/family member who is on an O2 contract to fill in the following form;

bought as a payandgo upgrade, £25, for the wife. but having wifi issues. It seems to lose connectivity to the wifi, and only way around it is to reboot the phone.
but otherwise a nice phone

Both the Lumia 550 and Lumia 650 have some wifi issues.
Make sure you are using the latest firmware (01078.00037.16082.410xx) , as this was released specifically to resolve wifi and bluetooth issues (it has worked to some extent). The latest firmware usually appears on Windows Device Recovery Tool (a PC program that flashes OS/Firmware to the device) first, before it appears for download over-the-air.

What do you do if you don't know anybody who has an O2 contract? My only friends that use O2 do so on PAYG or via GiffGaff. That's where the difficulty is.

not a bad phone but refurb?, ive had bad experience with refurbs so for me cold just because its a refurb.

I wouldn't be concerned about these being refurbs. When they were first released, the OS on the phones were woeful. It was near impossible to install apps or update to later versions of the OS. So I dare say these phones have had little/no use.
Returns are easy with O2 at any rate...
With all that said, as a long time Windows Phone user, I'm not sure I can recommend any of their latest phones.
