so begin the questions, sorry! - I want to use this for music and as such will be filling up the hard-drive. This has everything I want in a laptop, except the 1TB HD. Can people advise on ease of upgrade?

For this price you get really good laptop for work and entertainment. Of course you will not be able to play latest games:p

Questions I would ask before buying this laptop:

- Is the RAM upgradeable? If so, to what?
- How easy is the battery to replace?
- What is the trackpad like?
- Is the Sata port for the Hard Drive Sata 3?
- Can the DVD drive be removed to put another hard drive in? (Easier than you might think)

But altogether, the specs look great for the price. I usually recommend Acer, and the equivalent laptops are going for an extra £100.

Bought one of these at Christmas. Specs are great and not too badly put together but the track pad is a bit rubbish and the screen is not great. Still good for the money.

What are people's thoughts on this compared to the Costco Star Wars laptop? Is the extra £100 worth it? My 6 year old laptop is about to fall over and I'm looking for a replacement that will be my primary PC - Although it's unlikely to do anything more demanding than a bit of home movie editing and WoTs. I'm already a Costco member through work.

I was also thinking of getting this. Better processor, better screen, more ram, bigger hard drive and back lit keyboard, not worth the extra £100? I was under the impression this wasn't bad for the money, and there wasn't the same spec, for the same price or cheaper elsewhere.

seems fast enough, will prob remove "free" 1 year McAffee trial sooner or later, also got a free Bulldog license for a year, but will prob go with Bitdefender again.

Why? AMD processors run just fine and in some cases are faster than Intel + you get a better gfx card.
I have a laptop with an amd A8 processor at home and one with an I7 QC at work I cannot really tell the difference in day to day use...

Processor, doubt you would notice unless they were side by side. Be tempted to go for the Acer and put the £40 difference towards an SSD.

Been this price now for about a month (possibly longer) - I've had mine for around 3 weeks and have no regrets. Use it for internet browsing & word processing so cant really comment on anything more intensive bit its been great so far!

The newer i5-6200u version is only £40 more from the same retailer with a 128Gb ssd
This is a decent step up for GPU and CPU and the SSD would be much faster in use.
Tiny SSD but for people thinking of using with external storage or cloud/NAS I'd go for the newer model

Why? None of the HPs I have bought over the years have had hinge problems and yet two Acers, including one only 15 months old, have both had broken hinges.

the missus seems happy with it, I've not used it much, but...

1) has only been used in living room, where the wireless router and ining room, but had no connection issues.
2) seems ok for youtube, haven't tried to watch a whole tv show or movie, I'm sure I'd have been told if it was bad though :wink: However, it is a cheap laptop so you can't expext too much really.
3) seems sturdy enough

my only slight complaint, is that the Function keys are mapped the wrong way round. F5 isn't mapped to anything else, but F2 brightness down, but rather than pressing the fn button with F2 to turn down brightness, you just press f2 to turn down brightness, which means if you want to use f2 windows shortcut to rename a file, you use fn and F2. I guess that's a getting used to thing, an dI suppose why F5 doesn't also do anythign else.

I'd like to repeat the question somebody else asked; what's the difference between this 250 G4, and the 350 G2?

The 250 has been upgraded to Win 10, whereas the 350 is 8.1 but of course upgradeable to 10. I read somewhere that the 250 has to have the whole back/rear removed to acess the innards, whereas the 350 has convenient lids/hatches to access the RAM and HDD.

But as for information, there's very little about re the 350. Is one a newer model, and if so, which?
