My first time posting a deal - popped into Lidl in Belfast City Centre to get a few beers yesterday. They drop the price of Franziskaner wheat beer from £1.50 to 99p every now and again and it's back on.
It's lovely stuff, quite like Erdinger and Hoegarden but I prefer it to those two.
Not sure if it's national but the ticket made it look like it was.

There is no such thing as a "best" beer as it is all down to preference. IMHO Hoegaarden is better than this but still a fine tipple!

Quite right, Imho hoegarden is very different to franziskaner, and franziskaner is better
Fair bit of choice on the wheat beer front for a rather small sized Merkur over here I'll have you know :sunglasses: and all beers 25% off for 'Friends' loyalty card holders this week too!
Because I'm taking so much booze with me when we move back to the UK week after next we got to watch the weight of our Sprinter so had to stick to can purchases. Also got to take in to account that you're paying a deposit of €3 per crate €1.80 for the 20 bottles per crate over here, which soon adds up.
I cleared them out of the only wheat beer they got stock of in cans which is Löwenbräu Weisse, not as nice as Edelweiss but beggars can't be choosers. RRP 89 cents a can so take the 25% off and I weighed on just over 50 pence per 500ml tinnie in proper dough, my life I'm going to miss living over here :disappointed:

Oh my goodness, weheinstephaner for 1 Euro 22!
That's under a pound per bottle. Half the price of here.
To be fair, Belgian beers have an even greater price difference - e.g. Chimay - around £3 at least here for 33cl. Easily had for 1 Euro 50 across Benelux/Western Europe.
Shinoke
2 Apr 16#55
Just to mention, Hoegaarden is completely different. It's a witbier - Belgian, not a Hefeweizen - which the Franziskaner and Erdinger are - German wheat beers.
The German wheat beers are purer - the Beglain witbier has corriander and orrange peel added, for quite a different flavour.
Naturally wheat bears can have a phenolic taste - e.g. Bubble gum and often Banana are mentioned as flavours. Estery aromas. And cloves too. But the Belgians actually add ingredients to add to those natural flavours.
I like hoegaarden but it does have a much more pond water taste.
I've tried Franziskaner - but I didn't think much of it personally. Weheinstephaner is much nicer in my opinion.
Heard good things about Paulaner too, although it's hard to find here and not tried it.
My fave so far is Weheinstephaner's Dunkelweizen.
Dunkel's are hard to find in the UK too, especially the supermarkets. Waitrose used to sell the Weheinstephaner's Dunkelweizen.
As the name suggests it's a dark wheat beer. Perhaps less banana flavour, but very tasty.

Where's the gig at then, is it in Nürnberg? Nice manor that and quite a few decent shops for clobber if you're taking a few quid with ya.
What game you watching, are you going to Nürnberg against Duisburg then? The pondlife from the Reeperbahn play there in about a month's time but that said I don't think Nürnberg are particularly political, definitely not right wing like say Dresden, Rostock or some of the the other Ossi clubs are so it's not that big for them, Fürth is their derby.
I go Rapid Wien a bit and have made quite a lot of friends there since I been going. There's a friendship between the Rapid and Nürnberg ultras but there's a lot of needle between the respective hooligans/casuals of the two clubs. Weird situation that makes no sense to me, when there's some Nürnberg ultras visiting here the Rapid firm leave em be and when Rapid ultras travel to their games Nürnberg's posse leave them alone. The beef is only between the thugs whilst the ultras are so pally  they do things different over here

I've never been to Fürth town, never mind the football ground, I don't think there's anything spectacular going on there.....apart from great bangers and top beer like everyhwere in Bavaria. Driven past it on the motorway loads of times but always in a rush otherwise I'd have turned off to have a nosey. I am rather fond of going to any random manor I am passing with a football team to take a butcher's at the ground.
All the cabaret will be in the away end there then  there's been proper aggro between Düsseldorf's ultras and casuals about a friendship with Athletico Madrid for quite a while now. I got a feeling they may even have segregation between the two groups at away games nowadays, bit like was the case with PSG for years and Partizan Belgrade in more recent times.
Düsseldorf's posse are called the Bushwhackers funnily enough :sunglasses: I wonder where they got that name from hehe
Hope Augsburg win the other game but Stuttgart look like they're out of it already this year, shame, as they are a proper pet hate of mine and I'd love to see them get relegated one of these days.
German football rocks, big crowds with proper passionate fans, the clubs ain't fleecing them like they do back home either. I never go in to matches back at home, well perhaps a couple of times a season, I go down there course but I just stay in the pub instead. Fell out of love with football many years ago if I'm honest

3 Apr 16#69
Yeah i agree, i think Furth has nothing to offer but it isn't far from Nuremburg so we can have a few pints there first, or take cans/bottles seeing as drinking in the streets is fine in Germany.
The atmosphere at German games are top class, we went to Hannover v Dortmund last year. We were in the home end next to the Dortmund fans and might as well have been in the Dortmund end considering the amount of Dortmund fans in the home end. Class game, class atmosphere.

Hey listen don't hold me to it but I would assume that in Germany, but especially in Bavaria, you can get hold of Almdudler. It's like a fizzy pop soft drink, really is like what Irn Bru is in Scotland Almdudler is here in Austria, and it is the mutt's nuts for recovering after a hard day's over indulgence from over eating and getting lagging drunk at the football
And as you can see here there's a special limited edition cannabis, sorry hemp, flavour available at the minute and I highly recommend it :sunglasses:
Edit: I am ok with H96 but never been much of an admirer of BVB, don't get me wrong literally anyone is better than the unwashed underclass from the Reeperbahn and than Bayern when it comes to Germany, but I don't like the club and don't like the town. I'm very much Schalke sympathetic round that neck of the woods, I would be far more comfortable with preferring Bochum but seeing they lick Bayern's Harris because of their mutual hatred of Dortmund and Gelsenkirchen I can't stick them either.
Maybe I'm bias but I'm all for the east because to me that's where it's at when you think FCH, Dresden, Magdeburg and even Karl Marx Stadt(Chemnitz), Cottbus, Erfurt and Halle are all languishing in the third division yet all them clubs' support is so staunch.
Of course Dynamo are definitely going back up to the second and plastic Leipzig will most likely be going up to the Bundesliga 1 with Red Bull money but none of them have had even a sniff of real success since reunification nearly 30 years ago now. It's actually gutting it's taken corporate money to get an Ossi club within touching distance of the top flight again after a good five, perhaps ten years.

Weihenstephaner is the daddy if you ask me, Franziskaner is OK, and Erdinger is practically tasteless in the bottle, though drinkable on draught. Worth keeping an eye out for the regular Groupon deal that does 23 wheat beers and a proper glass for £30, pretty good selection of bottles you wouldn't otherwise find in the UK, quite a few dunkels included, also a light beer selection for the same price, and a strong beer one with less bottles (neither of which I have tried).

There's a special dark Franziskaner called Royal comes out over here around Christmas time I think in a special selection box with a few of their others, including unfortunately a couple of bottles off their zero percent dross. That said, the supplied glass does make it worth the purchase :man:

We got a gaff like that near me in Eisenstdt called the HaydnBräu and both their grub and home brewed beers are superb but they don't supply their beers to anyone else.
