Dyson DC50 Multi-floor is on offer at £189.99 in the Aldi special buy. Available online now, or in store on the 14th. Seems like a good price compared to other stores.

Dyson's have never been manufactured in South Wales. And they're now built in Malaysia, in a pretty much automated robotic factory. Even if they had been built in Wales, I'd trust the current process over the Welsh any day.

DC50 is a bit of an issue on newer carpets as the head is flush to the floor. there's not a lot you can do unfortunately until your carpet beds in a bit. Bit of a pain, this is one of the flaws on the DC50.

This may be a silly question. I got this via this deal as my 500 year old dyson eventually blew up last week. The suction is so good on this that I cannot actually even move it ..!! It is stuck to my (new) carpet with all its might! Does anyone know if/where/how to reduce the suction please otherwise it is useless. There was a little lever thing I pulled up on my old one but can't see anything on this :/

There's details of the difference between the two models on the Dyson site. There's the general model information & then you can see the two models specifically by scrolling sideways at the bottom of the page http://www.dyson.co.uk/vacuum-cleaners/upright/dc50.aspx

I note the Dyson DC50 is referred to as multi on some sites and animal on others. Are these different models or the same, using different words. We are considering ordering the Aldi one, but are dithering over the words.

That explains the crappy build quality for £300-£500 for a vacuum I would want better build quality. Far enough there customer service is reported as been top notch but a product at that cost shouldn't have the issues to start with

I grabbed a Shark after returning the crap Dyson I bought. The Shark beats the Dyson on performance but after a year or so has started to show a little wear. The hose split but Shark replaced for free and the wand is now being trouble locking into place which again Shark replaced for free. Shark have been faultless up to now, Plus the vacuum has headlights how cool is that!!

debenham £299.00,
John Lewis £399.99
Amazon £274.43

As a strrong supporter of British Engineering, it pains me to write this, but the Dyson DC04 I had was high performance and low quality. Flimsy, troublesome.
Mr Dyson could have built another high quality British brand, but he fluffed it. Well, maybe he has time to rescue the situation, but he had better start soon.
Mr Dyson, in the long term, you will be much better off putting quality as your fist priority.
As for me, well I now have a 2.2 kW Miele with a bag. The thing feels like it will last for ever & would suck the tiles off the floor. Delighted.

Our dc40 brush bar stopped rotating...an engineer came out yesterday and fixed it (foc) said it was a common fault..don't know what to make of that...Is it rubbish or are they on the ball repairing...sucks...in a good way...

James dyson moved production from I think South Wales to China some years back which probably explain the newer models cheap build quality but the aftercare from Dyson is as good as it gets .

We have the DC50 Animal and its great; great section on all floor types. Yes, we've had an issue with the handle, but Dyson replaced this under warranty. Whilst I agree, its not as heavily built as their older models, this is a compact, and specifically designed light weight vacuum. This is the 4th Dyson we've had since the DC01, and we still have a DC07 I use for the car. Its a bargain price IMO, and I'd recommend it.

What's peoples thoughts on Dyson vacuums these days. In the beginning the were the dogs but got to admit over last few years they've been cheap plastic poor performers. Bought the DC40 animal (Well ordered the DC25 animal but Argos gave me a DC40 animal instead) last year or so and returned it after 6 days what a load of cack.
Shocking product made out of cheap flimsy plastic, Power cable to short, Hose to short, It falls over and the suction is crap.
What's a very good Dyson these days ???

I've got the DC54 its the best vacuum I've ever had. I purchased it from the Dyson deal where you got the little portable Dc34 for free. Also with 5 years warranty included. Definitely worth it imo

Incredibly hard to push on thick carpets, awkward on stairs, not that versatile and as said in previous comments poor build quality. If you want a good vacuum with a 5 year warranty, get a Shark.

Pros: Great suction, warranty & customer service is excellent and UK based, the tangle free brush tool is the best invention ever. Washable HEPA filters are a bonus.
Cons: Awful build quality, plastic feels cheap and bendy. Brushbar only lasted a year before failing (although replacement sent FOC under warranty) and the carbon fibre filaments broke off, Noisy, suction is too much on a lot of surfaces despite variable suction control on the motorised head.

I have had a DC04 absolute for some twenty odd years which is still as good as the day I bought it. I bought a DC50 at a better price than this offer to replace it but was not impressed so sold the DC50 and still use my DC04.

Totally agree had one of the very first Dyson's and it was built like a brick sh**house. Very well engineered etc. But the newer models in my opinion are cheap flimsy plastic things & I would expect way way better for the price you have to pay

Also.. do they deliver? or is it store pick up only?

I've not bought from Aldi special buys before but believe they deliver if you order online. No idea when the payment is taken I'm afraid. They should be in store as well on the 14th, but I'm guessing limited stock per store. Sorry not to be more help.

Cant see how you can go wrong with 5 year warranty.

I bought the DC50 a while back now,
Big mistake-
The extendable part below the handle broke with just normal vacuuming (now held in place with velcro,
Pain in the **** to empty,
Filters are a pain to clean especially the small one in the top of the cyclone,
Huge piece of cheap plastic in my honest opinion,
do your research-these thing's aren't cheap.

it would appear that Aldi's is a good deal. Next step is to read reviews, not user's, but those that spend all day every day comparing products, such as , http://www.pocket-lint.com/review/73042-dyson-dc50-vacuum-cleaner-review
