Found this in Tesco Burnside near Glasgow yesterday. Seemed to have a few but they were going fast. Not sure if this deal is national. Great price.

You can cook stuff as fast as 2 hours or as slow as 18 hours (in my own experience). On high heat, a nice marinaded thick chop is done in 2 hours (can be lesser if thinner cuts), whilst a big shoulder with dry marinade for pull pork coming out lunch time when made overnight is well worth the "slow" wait.
Most of the time, I use it to throw ingredients in a pot and have a meal ready the moment step back into the house from work.

Slow cookers are great, like seejaythinks says just throw stuff in,cheap tough meat cuts end up super tender.I had one of my old cockerels in last week, would have been chewy roasted, came out falling off the bone!

No more unsafe than leaving your fridge on 24/7. It's made for purpose, slow and long cooking.
It never boils over due to temperature ranging between 50 and 85C. Just ensure there's the right moisture, it's totally safe.

Nah they dont cook potatos all the way through unless you cook for like a day.
Still much easier to just cook it all in a big pan than these, suppose currys would be okay.

They definitely cook potatoes through. I did a steak casserole last week with potatoes and other veg, cooked for 8 hours on slow, came home to the beautiful aroma of cooked dinner waiting to be eaten and everything was done to perfection

I usually slow cook beef joints. Cooks it so good and hardly any shrinkage and so tender.

The sauce often spills into the receptacle, leaving brown patches. Heavier than that in Aldi. But at that price, unbeatable. Trouble is things don't taste nice. Just very bland and dead.

May I suggest more herbs and spices then? You can also get some slow cooker powdered sachets to add to the ingredients, Spanish chicken one is nice.

If you cook any animal at near boiling point for 2 hours or more you'd expect it to be dead!

Aldi sells a cheap one at £12 to £13. Much lighter than Tesco one with exactly the same functions.

Pressure cooker does meat a lot quicker and melts in your mouth in just under a hour but I do have a slow cooker but not used much as like someone said they take too long.

A friend of mine is a butcher, I called in to see him and he said try this beef(oeer), it was stunning just fell apart, I asked him how he cooked it he said a slow cooker, he left it on overnight in some gravy, then the last two hours threw some frozen veg in, his cooker was only 130 watt so wont burn the leccy.
if I can get to Tesco today I will pick one up, heat from me..

If your doing a beef casserole how much water do you add and would you need to add something to brown it,does it come with a cook book with recommended times

My crockpot came with a recipe booklet which was handy. You can brown the meat before adding it to the crockpot. As a general rule, you don't put in as much liquid as you would an oven-cooked casserole, as the crockpot or any slow cooker works on the fact that the condensation formed as the dish heats, collects on the glass lid and drops into the casserole, thus providing more liquid. For that reason you aren't supposed to remove the lid while recipe is cooking. Hope this makes sense

I have this and would highly recommend it. Did you know you can make cakes in it, and one of our faves is lasagne. Much more than just a "stew" cooker!!
