I aways buy physical media and sub to Netflix/Amazon Video as I want the best picture possible. It's like buying a 6TB hard-drive and only ever using 500mb, and knowing you will only use that amount before buying it....such a waste. :smiley:

I've been using the Mini MXII for three months and it's been very good, except for the noisy click of the remote. Three firmware updates since owning it. This has a better spec than the one I have. Highly recommended, go for it.

Specs looks great but something inside me tells me to hold out just a little while since it's so brand new with little reviews just to put my mind at ease.

Basically the same as the other deal for £26.50 apart from the gigabit Ethernet which you're unlikely to need even for 4k content.

These will keep getting cheaper as the S905 is about to be replaced with the S905X which has the proper DRM support needed by Netflix etc.

I see that point of view, but then I also think that some of these boxes shouldn't have replaced HTPCs.

This is a better deal than the other one. Beelink are decent with their updates. Let's hope Gearbest doesn't let me down. Risky company.

You know those places where people can host files but when you download them the free option is pretty slow and you can pay for premium? Well, RD gives you equivalent of premium for dozens of sites by them getting the onto their servers then giving you full speed download. It cost around £2.40 a month if you get it for 90 days.

Couldn't agree more, a lot of my friends does the same and when I try explain to them that the quality is of vhs they can't see the difference :-|

I've setup a box with Kodi and have wasted too much time clicking on dead links or waiting for something to stream - only to find it very poor quality or permanent buffering.

Spending £6 a month on Netflix and using Chromecast? No brainer.

I've been messing with it just over a month and from knowing nothing I can get any football match and all sky channels and all sorts in glorious 1080p with a couple of subscription bolt ons costing 12quid a month.

And again like my previous comment that only applies to the average user

Doing your homework on using these boxes is a 'no brainer' and thats applies to NOT spending £6 a month

I was impressed with the mini mx box with slightly lower specs I got from here for my old man a month ago. That was about £6 cheaper, but only 8gb. Going to give this one a go to replace an old Kodi PC I have in the bedroom

Great deal, this box will actually let you use the features of the hardware like 4k and 10bit, a lot of cheapy boxes don't have firmware optimised for the hardware and lack after sales firmware updates and support in general. Many don't even give you proper 24p let alone 10bit.

As for the quality of the files, that all depends where you source them from. You can always use an addon that streams torrents or you know, download a file in any quality you like and then use the device to play it back from local storage....as long as you are legally entitled to download the file of course.

I hope you've never recorded something off the TV or recorded a song from the radio. If they come to your house to discuss your accusations and find out you have recordings of Eastenders on your sky+ box they will throw the book at you. you may still have time to bury it in the garden if you hurry.

Looking into buying an all bells and whistle Android box for myself. The flash sale on Mini M8S TV Box for £27 will be over in 4 hours and there isn;t a great deal of different between them. 16GB ROM, 1Gig Ethernet, Streaming DLNA/Miracast and possible better firmware support.

You get the streaming / Miracast on the Mini M8S, it is great value for a few quid cheaper and in stock, that said I have ordered this for myself to see the difference and have a bit more space.

Yes Raspberry's use it, you can usually install OpenElec on an old PC. Being standalone it's suitable for anything that doesn't already have an OS, if you're running something with an OS Kodi/SPMC is the best bet.

Looks really good for the price - to get 2GB RAM + 16GB storage & bluetooth for almost the same price as the mxqs. Only issue is shipment, how long it'll take etc.

The only problem is all the little niggly problems you get with these boxes. Ones that you only find out once you have them. I have a MXQ and overall it's pretty good for £30 (apart from the annoying lack of battery backup for the clock) but I'm on the lookout for a higher standard of box - one that's not just higher spec but also well tested and kept up to date.

At the moment the only "pro" box is the Nvidia Shield but that's £149 and whilst its well worth the money, it's just a little more than I want to spend on a media player (I wouldn't game on it much).

The typical GearBest excuses, my order is STILL!!! stuck processing, chased last week and was told it would ship 5-10 May, it didn't ship. Chased again today and now I'm now being told :

'We will arrange the shipment soon once it was in stock, and we expect to ship your order before 30 May'

Just received mine today and already it's not off to a good start. Plugged in check all connections but it won't start. No on/off switch on device, there is a faint blue light on the front of the box which i presumed is on standby. No batteries supplied with remote so included my own. Kept pressing the standby button to turn on but nothing. Any ideas?

For those that has theirs. Does the faint blue go to red when on? and if there anything on the remote to indicate that its sending IR signal. I might have been sent a duff remote. replace batteries few times already just in case.

After a process of elimination, turns out they sent me a dodgy HDMI cable (the cable has been used before as the packaging has been ripped). The box was on the whole time, it didn't help that the box or remote didn't exactly light up to indicate it was functioning.

TWRP let's you do backups, install custom ROMs etc

There is a finless ROM for tronsmart that may work for this box

No real advantage just I like to tinker :/

After 6 months of Kodi, I have given up and going back to subscriptions. For me it's not worth the time and effort, plus my Mrs would moan when it would take 10mins to watch something because of dead links.

I'm not that bothered of about twrp but xposed is something that I really want to install. Mainly cause of YouTube adaway and YouTube background playback. Out of 4 of my devices, xposed caused bootloop on one - dual boot kitkat tablet. I'm hesitating putting xposed on this player in case of soft brick.

Managed to get twrp/xposed installed:

Put this image: http://www.freak-tab.de/abdul_pt/aml/TWRP3_Mini_M8S.img in my sd card and renamed to recovery.img
Made a dummy text file in the root of my sd card called file.zip
Went to update and backup app in app drawer
Selected file.zip to update
Box automatically rebooted into twrp
