WD 2 TB my passport portable hard drive for macs, this is a recertified model so a big saving on a new unit. It's direct from WD, pretty good price I think and even cheaper than windows versions which is a first, products for macs always carries a premium so this is a nice change.
The casing matches many apple products for those of you which are fashion conscious and it's easily reformatted for use with windows.
Did a quick search before posting and found one third party reseller on amazon selling a new one for £200 (disgusting, hope no buys it by mistake at that price).
I have bought numerous hard drives from the WD outlet store before, they are like new with sealed plastic packaging in plain brown boxes. Always been excellent, never missed a beat and will not hesitate to recommend to others.
I've read some customers complain about poor CS or faulty products but I have never experienced this.
I also understand that others will say they would pay more for a new unit and won't trust WD or recertified with their precious data and how seagate/ toshiba/ samsung etc is faster more reliable and will make you more attractive to the opposite/ same sex.
Remember make multiple backups of all your important data and at this price there is no excuse not to.

To clear up any doubt, these are fine for use with Windows, just format with ntfs. I also have one attached to a Raspberry Pi 2 running as a media server and it powers okay from the usb bus.

Great Price, However...Recertified Tech term fir "reconditioned". Always aprehensive when buying reconditioned electrical equipment especially given reduced warranties. In this case 6 mths. When it comes to data/memories which are priceless especially photos which can't be recaptured. Is the reward ( cheaper cost) v risk ( loss) a price your willing to take. To paraphrase a well-known retailer "when it's gone it's gone!!!!". No good wishing you'd spent a bit more after the event.

How does a 3 year warranty compared to a 6 month one protect your data in a better way?
Always test a storage drive out extensively before putting it to proper use. And make backups. Warranties are useless for your data.

Noooooo a warranty means nothing to your data having a brand new or recertified means your data I'd at exactly the same risk if you put it in one place!
Online active storage ie your pc/laptop
Backed up local ie this drive
Off site - cloud, ftp, flash drive at relatives house etc
If you follow the above for your precious memories then if any drive fails it doesn't matter, it's an inconvenience which is all any hardware failure should be.
A portable hard drive is not a soke backup solution

Thats why you keep backups of the memories you want to keep

If you're backing up your most treasured memories to a single portable USB hard drive you're a moron. Besides the fact that onsite backup isn't a proper backup.
If you're really that concerned about your data use something like Backblaze for $50 a year.

I have one of these from last year when JohnLewis were selling them for £54, 2 years warranty.
I use it to transfer/backup files with my m$ machine and my Linux.
I also have a 2TB WD Passport Ultra.
The Ultra has been faultless, this model disconnects quite often but not enough to justify using the warranty though.
Overall, I would feel happier getting another Ultra and giving these a pass.

Data or no data, in life generally one needs to understand the meaning of backup and recovery from disaster including your home and family.
Trivial example,if you have one child, guarantee or no guarantee, once gone ,gone for good with no backup second child.
