I've been looking at getting a cheap new headset and found this. Cheapest I've seen it since Christmas.

from what I can see, it's got good reviews on the net. but these ain't for me, I like more than stereo sound. but at that price it's a steal.
but I found the best TB headsets for a good price is turtle beach stealth 500p, 7.1 surround is amazing

I do not recommend for a comfort point of view. I would say I have a average sized head but these things crushed me and hurt so bad even after 20 mins of play that I had to stop each time.
As others have said, the official Sony 7.1 wireless are brilliant for the price and are very comfortable. I switched to them and couldn't be happier!

ok I can help alot with this as I have quite a bit of experience...
turtle beach are an OK brand but they are now beginning to fall by the way side as most first time customers dont tend to return (no i didnt say all)
I had these, the PX4's, the stealth 400 and 500.
this set is of low average quality, the sound has little balance and its definition is poor for FPS for example to hear footsteps on either the left or right is very difficult. On terms of a strength test they faired well not breaking from 2 falls on a 3ft drop on solid concrete though scratching badly. But I have to be honest:
has hit the nail on the head. The wireless 2.0 or gold as they are referred to are in an a class of their own (I prefer these even to my astros) at £80 quid they aint cheap but if you can find a sale or even buy second hand i would prefer that than to the TB.
This headset is fully wireless and has a great charge, quality build and has a great sound balance. Even the app to equalise the headset that is built into the ps4 works well... (the only gripe with this headset is the plastic connecting the earpieces to the headband is very thin but mine are 13month old now had a few bangs and are still going

Cheers. I'm after one for a family member, might as well pay what's needed to get a decent one

And when it comes to buying family members, it's false economy to get a cheap one

For the price these are a good deal though I think

Wouldn't bother, these are built to a price. Had to send a couple sets back with various faults. Poor support experience, weeks before you even get a response.

That's really not surprising. I've another headset from them and I'm on at least my third one as the plastic on the band at either side will eventually just crack. I'm having to use a mix of lots of tape tape and coins on either side of the band on both sides now just so I can use them. I go with something else but so far I've not found something else I can use on any platform that isn't really expensive.
Their build quality is pretty poor long term.

My turtle beach X11's are still going, bought them for my xbox 360 and currently have them running through my AV receiver and the xbox chat adapter to talk to friends.
They were worth every penny.

If you can stretch to the official Sony wireless 7.1 headset, then do that. They will last a lot longer than these. I got mine for £45 from Smyths Toys, RRP £70

Best headphones for the price. Paid £50 for mine had them over a year no issues. Plus they work with xbox one as well

I have that Sony headset. It's just a shame they don't do a decent/long lasting headset in a mid-range price for a casual gamer. If the recipient gamed as much as me Sony would be the way to go

Thanks for the heads up. I can definitely justify £45 on these, even for a casual gamer. Sold

just be aware you will lose a USB slot with them. really annoyed me seeing as ps4 already has Bluetooth and would have been a much cleaner setup. also the hinges are very weak so be careful stretching them to put them on.
