I really miss the (non-flash in the pan celeb affiliated) ghost train that burnt down. It was clunky, the models hissed - but that just added to the atmosphere!! Really nice to see a ghost train back again. Just a shame it's had some C-lister name slapped on it. Is that supposed to want to make me go on it more? :smirk:

It's good Friday a lot of people will have it off

But for some is this really worth trying for. The site will crash, many will get peeved unable to connect maybe easier if 2 or 4 people going just to search out a 2 for 1 voucher that is usually found online somewhere such as days out etc however great if you need just 1 ticket for yourself or an extra ticket for 3 people to go. Expect it will be very difficult to get more than 1x12p ticket due to demand, limited tickets available and having to go through a payment process.
Oh just thought most will probably end up on Ebay.

How is a shilling 12p. Sure it was 12d but with the original conversion rate between £SD to £p being 1p =2.4d. This is wrong. A shilling was/is worth 5p NOT 12p!!!!!!

That's right. At 12d, 1 shilling was 1/20th of a pound, so 5p. That's why the original 5p pieces looked so similar to a shilling and 10p was similar to a two bob bit.

People didn't get something for free and they're absolutely vitriolic, emailing complaints and harping on about what an appalling company Thorpe Park is, this being the same company whose generosity they were willing to take advantage of to nab a free day out not 15 minutes earlier. I sent a single email at 9:59/10am to let them know tickets had sold out before 10am, just to make a point about that. Technically it's 12p a ticket, not free :stuck_out_tongue: But yes, I do think some people are going a little overboard. Probably just frustration.

Oh come on. If that was the biggest issue people wouldn't have submitted their personal information in the first place. If people would have got tickets NOONE would be complaining that they gave away their email address. It's only a problem because people are all salty over the fact Thorpe Park decided to be generous 10 minutes earlier than planned.

Yes I am fuming that they had this promotion up and didn't even give people a fair chance to enter having started the promo early and then selling out so fast....it's almost a con. Maybe they wanted people's details as there was a box the submit button regarding emails or something but as I was trying to enter so quickly I didn't stop to read it. Anyways You can send them an email to complain as I have done and let them know that they have lost a loyal customer out of this farce of a promo. Everyone should do the same so they know how unfair they have been.

Bit of a PR disaster for Thorpe Park.
Quite rightly people are annoyed that they were not given a fair chance of getting tickets, even thou everyone probably realised it was a very slim chance anyway.
Wonder how many people genuinely got these tickets , as yet there doesn't seem to be any codes or tickets on e bay, which is surprising as someone is always ready to sell these deals for a profit on e BAY.

True we might have over reacted, but you have to admit the principle behind it sucks whether free, cheap or otherwise, people have the right to be disappointed and I see no harm in emailing Thorpe Park as the complaints are legitimate. Imagine a sale at a store starting x amount earlier than advertised and you turn up with all the stock gone, how would you feel? Admittedly in this case, the stock was extremely limited to begin with.... :disappointed:

There was a very limited amount of tickets released to celebrate the arrival of our amazing new attraction Derren Brown’s Ghost Train. Knowing how popular it would be, we did extend the bandwidth to the website which was set to changeover at 10am and despite testing in advance, the site worked better than timed trials and went live 2-3 minutes earlier than expected. All tickets were sold and email confirmations sent to the winners of the 1,871 tickets at 10am. We knew demand would be high for the new attraction this year but interest superseded all expectations.

Sorry that you missed out on this deal and that you were unable to get a 12p ticket, we didn’t want this to happen but unfortunately despite due diligence and testing with the site it did go up slightly earlier, which we did not want.

He was drawing parallels with going to a shop. He didn't have to go to a shop. He had to go on the internet where, in all likelihood, he was probably still in his jimmy jams supping on a cup of tea. So no, it was not an inconvenience for him or anyone else here.

You are just wrong. Personally I was not in my pj neither drinking tea. So please just dont tell us how to feel ourselves or what is inconvenience whats not!

Granted I did not have to physically show up to a shop in person only to my PC, and ok the parallels are not identical lol...regardless I still believe the principle of stating one thing and doing another is uncalled for as did thousands of others who complained. I just wanted to thank the OP for posting the deal in the first place despite me not getting any tickets. Without the post I would never have known about it so would have had no chance any way. Hope OP managed to get some tickets for finding/posting the deal in the first place and personally I think there are much more important things to worry about than missing out on some tickets that there was a very remote chance of getting in the first place.

In all honesty, more people could've had a chance to grab some tickets if Thorpe Park did one thing - Ask for a door number along with the post-code and limited these tickets to one purchase of 4 tickets per household.

I also received the same email, hopefully meaning something is being done about it further.

We are going to take the time to write to you each individually so sorry for this delay in response but we feel it should be personal to explain the deal today. The tickets went fast and unfortunately not all could receive them– akin to a music festival, not all are successful.

With good intention we increased the bandwidth of our site to ensure all were in with a chance to secure the 12p ticket. The page was set to load for 10am, but the changeover process which was tested in advance and timed too, changed slightly quicker than expected meaning persons could purchase a ticket a few minutes earlier. All tickets were sold and email confirmations sent to the winners of the 1,871 tickets at 10am. There were a very limited amount of tickets, we do have many disappointed customers that missed out, we knew demand would be high for the new attraction this year but interest superseded all expectations. And as it turns out, we had not accounted for our system working BETTER than it usually does, resulting in the page going live a few minutes earlier than it should have.

We expressed tickets would sell out fast and to get on early and keep refreshing. We were aware that there was always going to be a certain level of disappointment as it was a very limited offer so unfortunately not everyone can get a ticket.

We love our guests, they brighten up our day and we wouldn’t exist without you. We are surprised by how popular our tickets were and thank you for your interest.

With the email address you entered it signs up you to future deals, I am happy to remove you from this list if you wish to be removed we can, please just let us know.

​that email is a bit of a joke to be honest and quite patronising, they really aren't doing themselves any favours here at all.

just come out and say we cocked it up, instead they are avoiding the fact the promotion did not run as they advertised and the part where they see their systems ran better than they should, which caused the promotion to start early is truly farcical. you're telling us your systems ran better because they started a promotion they were specifically timed for at the wrong time, couldn't make it up

On Friday 25 March 2016, our 12p ticket sale went live too early. This is the last thing we wanted, and understandably it left you frustrated and annoyed that your chances of winning may have been affected.

We could continue to apologise, but actions speak louder than words. We promised we would try to make amends if we could, so as a gesture of goodwill, we will be more than trebling the amount of 12p tickets available for 2016 - a further 4,000 tickets will be made available as part of the draw!

On Monday 18 April 2016 each person who registered to the site before the main sold out page went live on our website for all to see will have their details automatically entered into the draw which will be run by an independent adjudicator. You are one of those people, and there is nothing else you need to do to be entered.

How does this work?

1. All entrants who registered before the sold out page went live will be given an equal chance to win the opportunity to purchase up to four tickets for 12p each by being automatically entered into a ticket draw.

2. The ticket draw will be held on Monday 18 April 2016 by an independent adjudicator using a verifiable computer system that produces random results.

3. If you do not wish to take part in the draw reply to this email with ‘REMOVE ME’ by 23.59 hours (inclusive) on Thursday 14 April 2016.

4. Winners will receive an email from THORPE PARK Resort by midnight on Tuesday 19 April 2016 with a unique code to purchase four tickets for 12p each. So watch your inbox.

5. If you do not hear from us by midnight on Tuesday 19 April 2016, you have not been successful.

Unfortunately, we cannot enter into individual discussions concerning the 12p ticket. However, a full list of winners’ names, counties and details of the independent auditor will be available by writing to Thorpe Park before 1st November 2016 enclosing a stamped addressed envelope as per our Terms and Conditions.

Yhh we been entered into a draw, carried out by independent party

I haven't received this email (checked spam and everything), yet I HAVE received every other email regarding this matter with Thorpe Park stating that they try to make things right. Time to get on the phone I think as I don't see why I should be excluded.

As it was let shown on the main page when I first done it.

I checked all my filters and nothing!

I sent an email (after I posted on here today) to the 12p email address that's been contacting me since the promotion last month, and they've already got back to me saying that emails are still going out. I just replied saying that if I don't receive one I'll contact them again

I didn't get none of the other emails. Strange. Surly I should have if I entered all my details and clicked submit for it to say sold out. Could I have the email address please? My cousin didn't get the emails either and he done the same as me x

The draw is only for people who entered details before the site was meant to go live. If you put your details in after thesite should have put them up then I don't think you will be entered into the draw, which is why some may not have been sent emails

I entered my details at 9:56 on that day, so I should qualify.

I entered my details before 10am so Was before the site was suppose to go live. What annoyed me is that I had an alarm set for 9.30, then I went on their at 9.40 and then when I scrolled down on my phone realised it was active. By the time I entered me details they was already sold out and I done it twice with two different email address as I couldn't believe it and nothing on neither of them.

Lol I registered first time round with two accounts and received no emails on both accounts

I tried registering with three different email accounts, got the initial email to all of them and won... nothing! lol

Can't fault Thorpe Park for their attempts in trying to make up for the initial mistake. And it has (annoyingly) made me really keen to go this year now.

Guess I'll just need to keep an eye on eBay for any potential profiteers off-loading their prizes.
