I have been looking for a bin that helps us as a family to sort out our recycling from the normal 'black bin' stuff and the prices have always seemed quite high. Argos are offering 25% of any spend over £30 on their ebay account so it puts these bins at a really reasonable price (before voting cold try finding something similar at the same price) Also available in the larger option for £37.49 after discount. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/45-Litre-Recycling-Pedal-Bin-3-Compartments-/361477581758
Delivery is £3.95 if you dont want to collect from store, also seems to work on argos main website using code home25
Scroll down and discount shows in the right hand side...

It looks as if it holds about 1 2l bottle or a couple of cans. Very small for a family. Im guilty of not recycling at home even tho i push it at work I fill 2-3 massive black bags every week if not more for 2 adults n 2 toddlers.

I just bought 2 60l stainless steel bins from homebase which sit next to each other in the kitchen. One right one for black bin rubbish, left one for recycling, looks fine and means the recycling bin stays in pristine condition without needing to be cleaned.

just been and purchased one, seems perfectly suitable size for us, we empty it every evening. Though if someone wants to empty every few days it will be too small. I would say it will hold around 12 cans more if flattened. Food waste wise will hold loads.

I have been looking for a suitably sized one at a good price and this one looks to have 2 15L compartments (don't want to pay £60+ just for a bin), the best I have found so far is a 36L one (12L and 24L compartments) from B&Q here that is currently on offer for £39 for those who are looking for a slightly bigger version.

Says £39.99 on the linked eBay listing.
Also, one of my favourite bits of pedantry, it is described as being 'foot pedal operated'; does anybody know of any other kind of pedal?
A pedal is, by definition, foot operated - from pedalis, Latin for foot.

Perhaps it's just highlighting this fact so that customers who tend to only skim read descriptions - then want a refund because it's not what they wanted will be targeted.
You are right though, they shouldn't use these tactics because they make the company appear ignorant to the meaning and etymology of the word pedal.

Scroll a little further and the discount appears on the right of the page, as per the description?

I don't recycle; I don't want my kitchen full of bins. I used to where the council provided appropriate wheeley bins, until they do that I personally couldn't give a monkeys where my rubbish goes. Most of it doesn't go to be recycled, the stuff that does can take as much energy to be recycled as manufacturing from new, plus the stuff that can be efficiently recycled can be machine sorted.

Surely there has to be at least 5 different types recycling - but apparently that all goes in to the same section that isn't going to landfill

I have 40l bin in kitchen, which goes to black bag and council pick up
And 4 ( I don't bother recycling food waste - total waste time ) large solid green bags in basement for cardboard ,metal, plastic, glass
no point in bothering at all otherwise*
all taken to recycling by me - the council collection is useless
