Cleats are normally included with shimano pedals, can't see these on their website but the m8020 pedals on decathlon include cleats. So maybe not such a dream?!

No, they don't. I guess it would have been easier to say that in your head rather than type it out and look like an idiot.

Two reasons
1, weight saving, bike weights are published without the extra 350-500 grams,
A 13.2kg mountain bike suddenly comes under the magic 13kg without pedals, perfect,
2, all riders prefer different types of pedal ie spd/clipless or flats, no point giving an spd pedal to a guy riding flats and vice versa, it makes sense but cheaper bikes tend to come with basic flats, which the majority of keen biker will instantly remove and put on their own..
And a 3rd point high end bikes usually have upgrade options so the pedal cost will just be added on anyway and it's often you can get these components far cheaper on crc, Merlin, wiggle etc than the bike manufacturers would charge
Ps spend money on what you enjoy in life, and don't b1tch about what you know nothing about..
The missus mentioned going to decathlon yesterday, a new reason to go , although settled for m540s last week from merlin, these are regular £47, and must be a missprice as latest model out last year, I could understand the old virtually identical m780 xt pedals being sold off, but not these

That's an incredible deal. A wider standard SPD, which negates SPD-SL a little. I just can't get on with SPD-SL and went back to SPD.

Most Shimano's come with cleats or at least the MTB ones. With deals on here it has been cheaper (in the past) to but new pedals rather than new cleats.
