I was having the same dilema Samsung or LG , but after speaking to experienced and knowlegeable sales people and reading forums went for a LG Machine.
It was 9kg 1400 and down to £400 from currys reluctantly. Got promotional 5years on machine and 10 years on inverter motor.

TIP:
Which ever one you get watch out for a hammer / banging noise when the machine fills up with water, nothing to worry about just turn down the water pressure going into the machine.

They do refund, but because it's gone back up to £399 they say it needs to drop below this price within 28 days, but they seem to have forgotten it dropped to £379 on Monday!

29 Mar 16 #68
ha ha, I wanted to be at around 20-25p a day, simple maths.

I just got an email for £20 refund which actually brings it down to 21p a day.

If you believe the figures an average wash costs about the same so doing 2 loads a day plus detergent and conditioner I've budgeted £1 a day.

boring but hey go

I have a new huuuge Samsung washer dryer. Was impressed to start with. However you have to put small items in a net or things get in the filter/ behind the drum and you must put colour catchers in there too.

We have had so many problems with the 5C/SC error code coming up and having to manually drain. We make sure we always clear the filter of fluff between washes but it still keeps doing this.

Very annoyed we spend £££s and it is a temperamental bag of sheeeeet. Washes well when it washes tho and dried clothes are nice and soft.

I'd rather go back to the 10 year old Bosch one I gave to charity but that was too small at 5kg/3kg and Bosch didn't do a mahoosive one.

I got a free extension to my warranty but so far they have been very blame shy (the drain hose vanished into the housing of the washer one day - poor design) in the end hubby managed to get it back thru and we added a tie wrap to stop it disappearing again so I cancelled the service callout.

Hey guys, recently got a ecobubble 9kg. Which setting do you guys use for towels? Ive been using the cotton setting at 60 degrees but the towels smell horrible when they are washed and dried.
ublewit to taylor_swiftie
28 Mar 16 #58
I had an LG like that. Washing just never smelt clean, no idea why. Even running it empty on the hottest wash regularly to clean it out did nothing. Could never get to the bottom of it and LG were useless.

Then someone told me to stop using fabric conditioner and to use vinegar instead. It helped a lot, the washing never smelt 'summer garden flowery' unfortunately but it certainly didn't smell bad anymore either.

It also doesn't smell of vinegar btw. Maybe try that to see if it helps any?

I was glad when my machine broke, it's the only one I've ever had that smelt.

you just try and claim a repair on that so called 5 year warranty ! That's why I will never buy another Samsung washing machine in my life. Oh and if your into home repair yourself most parts are special order you won't find them in the mainstream repair stockists for a quick repair, just make sure you have a local launderette.

Ordered, been looking around for the last week as my 4+ year Indesit has a broken concrete block (on the bottom) which besides being noisy works flawlessly (not for long I fear).

Thanks for the heads up, £80 a year on a machine is about my budget.

I hate Washing Machines and dryers here in the UK, they're so **** weak. When I stayed in the US for a couple weeks, they had these giant top loaded machines that you could put a collapsed Star in and it still would cope with the weight.

26 Mar 16 #45
These are very light machines (in washing machine terms), so if you have floating floors, be prepared for quite a bit of vibration when the machine starts spinning.
Had an engineer out to ours as I thought there was something wrong with it, he said it was because they don't use concrete blocks in them in the same way that other manufacturers do.
Other than that, good machine.

Toploaders use a lot of energy and water. The washing action is to harsh and will damage the clothes after a several washes.

I have this and i love it, bought it for £399 in Jan. It's true that you stick to the same cycle, i use the one hour wash 99% of the time and occasionally 20/30mins if just a couple of things in there. I have 5 year guarantee and 10 years on the inverter motor

Not to say this isn't a good post by the OP, but I think @Saro has hit the nail on the head here.
I have the 9kg version of this model, and though it has been trouble free so far, the only real advantage is that it has a quieter spin (when wash is properly balanced). Other than that, I set it on my own personal daily 1hr wash cycle of 60* with 1600 spin, which I probably use 95% of the time. A friend who is very frugal in her buying habits highlighted that many of us buy super fan-dangled machines, only to use the daily or quick wash most of the time.

Due to when I put it on quick wash only to find it been stuck on out of balance so never ends up a quick wash grrhhh

12 Mar 16 #8
The drum came away from the motor on the direct drive LG we had. Was great for a few years but once that went it was done. We actually got longer service out of a Beko than that.

Think ultimately you'll find horror stories about all brands. Would love to be able to afford a Miele but they're just too expensive when generally these damn things tend to break down when money is not exactly at its most abundant.
Saro to wotguvnotmeguv

I have an 8kg LG steam washing machine for 4years & my folks own a 9kg for 5 years. LG was £200 more expensive even though I got a £150 discount by googling for a code online. I sometimes wish I got the beko because the programs are faster. 17 min quick wash on the beko as opposed to a 20min quick wash on the LG (without the steam function) that goes up to 43mins if I select the 1400rpm spin (41mins 1200rpm spin). Where as the beko is always 17min on the max spin 1400rpm.

Direct drive or not both are silent. I can't agree more about appliances stopping when the funds are limited. I can feel the LG will go first as I can smell burnt rubber most days after a complete wash cycle lately. hopefully I'm wrong because I'd hate to beaten by a beko lol. both are great machines.
