Almost as good as the 50in version from Currys recently, after Priority Moments discount was 429.99

That was a good deal...
If you spend the points on something you actually need, this works out marginally cheaper but I'd have gone with the 50" if it were still available.

just bought this today £558.99 from richersounds i saw it elsewhere at £480 but the 6 year warranty with RS enticed me enough considering mine just blew.

It is 549£ at Richersounds, why have you paid 558.99£?

John Lewis agreed to Price match Crampton & Moore's price of 489£ but unfortunately these are currently out of stock at John Lewis.......

Never taken an extended warranty. My current Samsung is a Plasma that's about 6 years old & I've been deciding what to replace it with. Nothing wrong with it, just time to upgrade.
You are legally allowed to return the goods within the first six years, although you have to prove faults are not because of general wear and tear. So if your television packs up at two years old, you could reasonably argue that as a big ticket purchase, such an item should have an expected life far longer than 2 years.
You are within your rights to go back to the manufacturer or shop and demand a replacement or that it is fixed.

31 Mar 16#11
I am not sure that is true, most manufacturers will cover you for a year or two while item is under warranty & then legally they are not bound to cover you for any faults ? I will be interested to know where have you got your info from?

Terrific TV at a great price. Had ours for a few months now. The inbuilt USB media player plays almost everything.

Your contract is with the retailer so that is incorrect, although if the manufacturer offers you a remedy as a good will gesture then that is all well and good but they don't legally have to do anything.

You are protected for up to 6 years but via the retailer not the manufacturer regardless of if they claim the warranty is only 1 or 2 years. However this is if you can prove you didn't do anything to damage it and if it should reasonably last longer than 6 years (and a bunch of other clauses). These days I suspect a TV's reasonable lifetime is arguably only around 4-5 years (saying that mine is over10) but I did get a previous telly repaired free at 4 years old when the power board died.

How have people found this TV for playing standard definition content? I mainly use Kodi / Sonarr for my TV shows and the comments on poor handling of SD content on 4K screens is putting me off upgrading.

I've also got a 6 year old plasma (a Panasonic FHD one) and are you sure this is an upgrade? Always found plasma unbeatable PQ-wise and as for watching footie on the LED's I've seen  Only downside is the leccy consumption but 440 quid buys a lot of kwhs!

Wait for OLED.
Plasma > anything LCD based. Pretty much. A few really top end LCD's can top low end plasma. But high end plasma is only topped by OLED. Regardless of pixel count. (Although, anyone using pixel count as any sort of gauge to PQ has no idea anyway ....)

When I was mewsing through John Lewis' TV selection, it was the OLED that really drew me.
The prices are daft but so are the curved LCD screens and that's a worse gimmick than 3D for selling TVs... A cinema screen is curved to ensure unform brightness and to reduce stretching when using a projected source - why would you need it for a (comparatively) small LCD panel?

Yep. Pincushion effect.
All the "more immersive" garbage they spout is just marketing spiel. So they can sell an otherwise pointless feature. And they look stupid wall mounted as well. If you can wall mount. Not all curved ones can be.
It'll be OLED next for me. Not sure when. At least another year I'd guess. Maybe 2 or 3 given the size and quality I'll be after ....
(3D I actually don't mind. It's not a major selling point. But 3D on my TV actually looks pretty good. I still use it from time to time on the few films that bother doing it well. "Gravity" not in 3D is only half a film ...)

Yeah. The number of ones worth watching coming through now is very small. But the good ones are still worth firing it up for. Unless you have passive of course. Passive 3D is pretty garbage. Active is much better (if you're not the headachey type) but much more faffing with glasses and changing/batteries ....
