AMD Radeon R9 Fury and above are VR Ready, virtual reality headsets such as Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are game changers in the way we play games. Valves SteamVR benchmark is the best way to test if your current PC is VR ready, ideally you need a score of 7+ and Fury/Fury X tend to score 9-10 which means they give great fidelity for virtual reality. VR will change how we play games as titles such as Elite Dangerous are out of this world when experienced in VR and with upcoming titles such as Portal 3, Half Life 3, Doom the future looks very exciting for PC gaming and AMD is ready with Liquid VR.
The new AMD Fury X graphics card ships with 4GB HBM. HBM is a new high-performance memory standard with vertically stacked DRAM dies and fast microscopic interconnects called through-silicon vias (TSVs). AMD Fury X graphics card features a wide-interface 4096-bit HBM memory architecture enabling higher bandwidth performance and over 3X the performance per watt of GDDR5. To fully harness the power of the GPU technology,
AMD LiquidVR™ Technology enables liquid-smooth visuals and high frame rates, which will provide broad compatibility, plug-and-play ease of use, and stable platform support for tomorrow's VR vendors and technologies. Get quality that rivals 4K, even on a 1080p display while playing your favorite online games thanks to AMD's VSR. Microsoft® DirectX® 12 brings new levels of visual realism to gaming on the PC and gets top-notch performance. Moreover, the card uses PCI Express 3.0 as the standard interface, doubling the data bandwidth of PCI Express 2.0.

Considering I spent £650 on a hybrid 980 ti in July, this seems an amazing deal.

Not exactly. The release cycle isn't weekly. The 14/16nm die shrink from 28nm doesn't happen every year. It is a very good idea to wait for the next lot of GPU's if not to buy them but to get a good deal on current GPU's.

We have proper DX12 GPU's now, or do you mean full tier and optional features? No guarantee the new ones will have everything either.

Power colour, bad RMA. At least you get the excellent service from Overclockers, who are significantly better than any other store for aiding the RMA process:
Fury X is great though. Quiet (now pump whine is reportedly fixed) and very cool. With driver improvements, beats the 980ti regularly for a lot less cash. No HMDI 2.0 yes, but has DisplayPort, which is the superior technology (higher data rates, freesync, etc).
As for new cards incoming, June/July at the earliest and these are reported to be the smaller mid-range GPUs. Monsters to come in the back end of the year. Pls correct me if I'm wrong.

FPS at 4K tested on R9 Nano, R9 Fury, R9 Fury X, 980 and 980TI. Fury X beats the Nano:
Abit silly to spend this much on a GFX card now when proper dx12 cards are due out in a few months. But still paying extra saving adding watercooling yourself is worth it to many.

Isn't it fair to say this already supports DX12? Here it's beating 980 Ti:
So it's not a straightforward comparison in the traditional "more is better" sense. See this thread.

As I said PROPER dx12 cards, my 290 supports dx12 but not all the bells and whistles which it has to offer. Same for with all gfx cards out the market on the moment. Best to wait before spending over £400 on one.

There's always some new and wonderful technology just around the corner, with this mentality you will never upgrade. If you are unhappy with what you have, and can afford to buy better, then do it.
Personally, I wouldn't touch PowerColor with a bargepole. Had them in the past, when (if) you get a problem your in for a world of pain trying to sort out their none UK manufacturers warranty, and if its after 12 months, you can kiss the 2year warranty goodbye. If your spending this sort of money, put a little more to it and get a 980Ti, they get 11 on the SteamVR benchmark, not to mention [email protected] over HDMI and generally smoother FPS in 4k.
I always get tempted by AMD cards, end up buying one, then end up regretting it. Its always the small little issues with their drivers that annoy you, the last one for me was from overscan/underscan fidelity issues.
If you are going to buy a Fury-X, please don't buy Powercolor.... ask anyone that's needed to get warranty repairs done, especially in months 13-24 (sure loads of people will say, I never had any issues with Powercolor, but those people never had to test out the support).
