Sold one of these on eBay, that 1gb of ram is pathetic. And the upgraded battery still doesn't last a day with Bluetooth and WiFi off and with battery saver on that renders the phone useless except for preserving power. nice looking phone though

Neither. A Zenfone 5 from ebuyer which was posted recently - double the RAM AND double the ROM for about the same price as this. The battery is less yes - by an earth-shattering 160mah or so. No brainer. However this deal will still go mega-hot because most only read the deal headline.

Whilst the Moto G hasn't progressed hugely whilst Chinese imports have got cheaper they are well made and do the job without fuss. For me Cyanogenmod is a must which all of the cheaper Chinese phones don't have.

I've had my 3G 2nd gen for over a year now, battery lasts around a day with moderate use, wifi enabled and bluetooth constantly connected to my running watch. Camera isn't too bad for the price too. Overall I've been very happy with it.
But like many on here, I'm starting to really struggle with the limited RAM. Most of the time it's manageable, but very often it slows the device down to a crawl. I know it all depends on the apps you have installed, but apps are naturally requiring more resources with each update, and it's only getting worse.
For example, I can no use google play music and google maps at the same time. The music jutters and then the app force closes. Every time.
Yes I do have other apps running too, but if it can't cope with this then 1Gb obviously isn't enough any more.

The main feature of Marshmallow is Doze mode, where it uses sensors in the phone to see if the phone is moving or not, if it isn't then it puts the phone in deep sleep mode, whereby the battery life should be improved.

I was all set to give up on my Moto G 2nd gen, having become very laggy in the last few months. Clearing the cache partition, as described at https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/99808 made a big difference to mine (and my wife's). Also, updated to Marshmallow a couple of days ago - main improvement was the ability to adopt my 64Gb SD card as internal storage.

Also have this phone, use GSAM battery monitor to watch for badly behaved apps, and usually close apps after use. with Wifi ON and bluetooth and location Off. And minimal use, i.e. occasional Whatsapp I would get 5-6 days (GSM says 6 day average per charge cycle with 58 min screen on). With Wifi Off I get over a week. Granted it is minimal use, just a bit of messaging, but well pleased with battery life. Also changed the screen on a XT1068 yesterday, bit fiddly but something a normal user can do.

The XT1072 doesn't support Doze as far as I know.
Q : Why doesnt Doze work on Moto G 2nd Gen's Official 6.0 Marshmallow ROM ?
A : Doze needs a significant motion detector (SMD) API implemented in a device's Sensor HAL. Devices that do not implement these APIs cannot support Doze. Moto didnt implement SMD in 2nd Gen's Stock 6.0 Marshmallow's Sensor HAL. 2nd Gen doesnt have a separate sensor hub but has a BMA2x2 Accelerometer in the SoC than can be used as a hardware for Doze, but Moto disabled it i.e. didnt make use of it to enable Doze.
What more do you want exactly from a phone. The ability to fire Torpedo's
I had a Moto E, amazing phone, took a beating and was 10 times the phone a Galaxy S4 was
I now have a Moto G, and still the same applies. They're just better phones, better build quality overall.
fishmaster
13 Mar 161#59
Q : Can we implement it by modifying or changing any setting?
A : No. 6.0 Stock Marshmallow Sensor HAL is closed sourced. Hence we cannot implement it manually on 2nd Gen's Stock 6.0 Marshmallow ROM. However Doze is fully functional on 2nd Gen's CyanogenMod 13 which uses its own open sourced HAL for its implementation using BMA2x2 Accelerometer.
So if you want Doze on this phone change to CM13 ROM.

Since the S6, Samsung have built decent quality phones, not sure where you're getting Apple iPhone aren't built well too. None of these phones are flimsy, they all break if you drop them though, apart from the Moto X Force which has a decent screen protector by default. A Moto G 2nd gen is just a plastic phone and the screen is easily smashed if dropped.

The price is good, but 1GB of RAM is really not appropriate for modern apps any more. Do yourself a favour and pay a bit extra for the 2GB version.

yup. got a 3rd gen from the moto store on it's way but my xt1032 still does everything i need it to do - both call quality & sound suffer as i think i've walked home in the rain while playing on it once too many and wrecked the mic & speakers (hence why i went for 3rd with it's waterproofing) but otherwise it's still great ! still copes with games and app switching plus has a good battery life though i've had it over 2 years.
doesn't seem a great deal for a gen.2 though - great phone and all but the spec is poor for the price range so i'm sure you can do better - has stock android & marshmallow coming plus good quality hardware but i'd wait for deals on the gen.3 8gb over this (has been available for £90 before), marshmallow should make 8gb android phones usable.

So if you want Doze on this phone change to CM13 ROM.
anyone that knows actually anything about quality phones go with Moto. they have me as a customer for life, they build proper phones. not flimsy pieces of ****
PS: I just noticed this is the second generation - no 2GB version there. Otherwise the hardware is excellent, and in some ways better than the third generation.
I want a phone, something reliable and well built. Not a Toy, for all those looking for a banging phone. Get this, it'll serve you well
No lag.
I browse, film videos on it, take pictures on it. Does everything i need and more. Along with the netflix app
no issues here. bargain of a phone. 10/10
The most disappointing aspect for me was that it was pretty crap as a phone. Call quality was poor.
It is a bit sluggish but I didn't play games on it so didn't find that to be too much of an issues. Nothing was too slow to really get on my nerves.

doesn't seem a great deal for a gen.2 though - great phone and all but the spec is poor for the price range so i'm sure you can do better - has stock android & marshmallow coming plus good quality hardware but i'd wait for deals on the gen.3 8gb over this (has been available for £90 before), marshmallow should make 8gb android phones usable.
think it's up in price now though.
My mum just smashed her screen on a samsung galaxy and its too expensive to repair. Wanted to get her something with the strongest/toughest glass on her next phone.
Is this vodaphone smart ultra 6 much better that people have mentioned on here?
good budget phone
Think this will come down in price more though.
