Cheapest this version has ever been from Amazon. I don't expect this to get hot (bring on the usual "better spec phones available for the price" comments) - but price drop may be of interest to anyone looking at getting the Moto G quickly.
A few points:
1) Better spec phones available for this price (zzzz...)
2) £10 cheaper (with codes) delivered direct from Motorola, but currently quoting 24th March for delivery from China
3) This has a 5 inch screen. It's not a 5.5/7" "phablet" as most people offer up as an alternative

My son has the 1Gb Ram / 8Gb version of the 3rd gen MotoG and I have the 2Gb / 16Gb. I know on raw specs there are better phones but we couldn't be happier. Unspectacular but solid and reliable performers... I like to think of the MotoG as the Skoda of the phone world! I only paid £10 more than this deal on release last year so I'll add heat but thought this would be £30-40 cheaper by now!

Most people would throw in the Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 (better spec, larger screen) or the Huawei P8 Lite (similar spec, cheaper but with a bloated version of Android).
If you're buying the Moto G it's unlikely to be on tech specs alone. This version, with 2gb of RAM is no slouch, but it's the form factor, the smaller (5") screen & vanilla android that appeals to most people. Gets great reviews too.

To be pedantic, you got your memory types messed up as well. Smartphones use a form of ROM flash memory called EEPROM for all their internal storage purposes. So this phone would have 16GB of ROM storage.

If you prefer a larger screen, I'd say so. I have a note 4 and a moto g & I personally prefer handling the smaller moto g - but for those who like or don't mind a large handset the moto x play is a great option.

It depends on what you are after.
The Moto X 2nd Gen has a much better quality screen than the Moto G 3rd, and also has a faster processor (in reality it only makes a difference in 3D games, the Moto G 3rd 2GB is quite responsive otherwise). However, the battery life on the Moto X is quite poor (due to the small battery capacity and less efficient processor), and the 13MP camera is not as good as the 13MP camera on the Moto G 3rd. Also, the Moto X 2nd Gen is limited to 16GB storage, with no option to expand, whereas the Moto G 3rd has a Micro SD slot for expansion.

I have owned a Moto x 2nd gen and it is a great phone. (I have jumped ship to Moto x force for 300£ on cpw).
It is a far more premium device and is not much bigger than this, has a way better screen and faster processor. The downsides are battery and camera, although both have been significantly improved since the reviewers had their go. With doze it lasted a day easily, sometimes even 2. Camera go pretty ok with updates, in good light it was really good, it struggled to focus in low light but would eventually get there.

I have recently purchased this moto G and the Smart Ultra 6. If you don't need NFC then go for the Moto G. It's probably a better phone, you'll get Android 6.0, a better camera and imo better build quality.
Smart Ultra 6 is a very good alternative for £50 less though.

There are many satisfied customers who use GearBest, FocalPrice, DX.com and AliExpress etc for their electronics purchases. Weigh up the options, see the benefits/downsides, then make an informed decision.
I think the Moto G is a "safe" option, if you`re cautious about warranty, customs charges, customer service, & don`t mind paying what amounts to be almost 50% more than the previous model (on special offer).
But if you want bang for your buck, & don`t mind doing a little running around, you can get similar or better for less than £100 ( there`s a Lenovo K 2 Note deal on here currently along with a Xiaomi Redmi 3, I think)

Anyone that pays £70 for 1GB of RAM and an extra 8GB storage is frankly a moron. Its almost double the price of the 8GB model! How is that a deal..?
ajdinmore to A1RN

That 1GB of RAM makes a spectacular difference to how the phone performs. Assuming you can afford it, you'd be a moron to buy the cheaper one.
Nexusfifth to A1RN
6 Mar 16#25
To be fair, I haven't seen the 8/1GB version under 120£ for a while so it is 40£ extra.
Usually I would agree with you and if it were only this 8/16 GB I would say don't bother, get a crazy fast micro SD for 15£ at 32GB and internalise it and you are better of.
But what you are paying for here is that extra 1GB of ram. While there is no way for that 1GB of ram to cost that much, it will almost certainly be a factor making this phone usable for a year or two extra of device life and for some people this may amount to be worth the 40£ extra.
Also in some sense that 2GB of ram places the device in a "different category" and people are prepared to pay that and this deal is saving them some money.

Assuming you can afford it, you would have bought the Moto X that was down to £169 (admittiedly with student discount. * Still available with Moto Maker for £190/180) just a few weeks ago. The difference between those two phones is chalk and cheese. It seems that people know the value of nothing and have seemingly zero patience. I bought one when it first came out to replace my 1st gen Moto G. Deliberately paid more for the 16GB version to get the 1GB to 2GB RAM upgrade. So pleased with it, I bought another one for my wife (also to upgrade from a 1st gen Moto G) and even though she would have been perfectly happy with the 8GB/1GB RAM, it was worth the extra £40 for the 16GB/2GB RAM version, as it will make the phone last considerably longer before it needs replacing again. I don't think the CPU is much faster than the 1st gen was, but the extra RAM makes a very obvious difference, as the 1st gen had become noticeably slow with the latest OS update.
HOT vote from me.

And the camera is streets ahead. It's a pity it's lost its notification light, but that flashed at a very slow rate so you could miss things if you glanced at it. And it's a pity that the earpiece and speaker slots are so prone to getting grime in them.

I had my 1st gen Moto g for 2 years and it has no scratches on the screen, despite me not using a case or protector. Gorilla Glass works. This phone is rubbish. I have the 2nd gen which is great and the 3rd gen which is rubbish. My brother and sister have the same 3rd gen moto g and we all agree the phone is rubbish. After a month or 2 of having it, the entire thing lags. The actual software takes up a lot of the storage and it glitches ridiculously. Would not recommend the 3rd generation of this phone
ben.harris to maniza
7 Mar 161#85
Have you got the 8GB version or the 16GB version? I'd expect the 8GB to be a lot more laggy than the 16GB as it only has 1GB of RAM whereas the 16GB version has 2GB of RAM. I deliberately bought the 16GB for this reason and haven't found any noticeable lag during everyday use.
Not saying that this is the case with you, but I think a lot of people have read the reviews for the 16GB storage / 2GB RAM and then bought the cheaper 8GB storage / 1GB RAM version and been disappointed that the performance doesn't match their expectations. Motorola should have put more emphasis on the RAM difference between the two models, and not just the storage, as storage can be addressed with an SD card whereas RAM can't.

So I reverted back to portable SD card as it meant I could easily move photos across devices more detailshere
For me the key things are:
the battery life is excellent -1.5-2 days with normal use, the camera is good enough and a massive improvement on the old models. It has stock android v6.0 so virtually no bloatware, the 2gb memory and cpu are fast enough for what i need, no lagging at all so far.
i don't want a screen bigger than 5inches, and finally motorola phones I've had previously are well made and don't fall apart.
