On a serious note, we all need to get behind initiatives like this to show supermarkets we don't care what our veg looks like but would rather stop the mountains of food thrown away because it doesn't look right.

Wonky carrots are a traversty, they make your vision go funny when it gets dark.

While I do agree, large amounts of these misshapen vegetables weren't thrown away anyway. Many of them were used in commercial kitchens (catering, ready meals etc.) or chopped up and sold as prepared vegetables.
Consumers throw away far more food than the supermarkets reject for being misshapen. This new fad is in danger of losing focus on individual waste, and ironically contributes towards it as they're often bundled in large packages or in mixed selections.
Don't get me wrong - I still support it, I just don't think it's quite as revolutionary as many people seem to think it is!

Am I missing something or have supermarkets not been selling cheap class 2 veg for years?

Yes, but I think the idea is to promote "misshapen" fruit and veg to the masses as not everyone is aware of the issues surrounding food waste.
