In a bigger picture view Microsoft bought Xamarin and they are pushing UWPs. This means that Microsoft is in a position where they can focus their developer attention on the hoards of non WP developers, those exclusively on iOS and Android, and WP will still benefit.
Microsoft is creating a "Why Not?" argument for WP app development as opposed to a "this is why you should develop for our 3rd place, minority platform" argument.
Are you developing an app for the quarter of a billion W10 users? Why not tick this box and make it usable on phones too?
Are you one of the huge number of developers using Xamarin to develop for iOS or Android? Why not tick this option and make it usable for W10 users?
Are you going to use our Bots on iOS or Android? why not tick this option and make it usable for W10?
Even if its an afterthought, its still more of a thought than developers are already paying to WP.

The worst thing about Build is that anytime they spoke about mobile they mentioned iOS and Android. In fact those two OS were mentioned more times than Windows Phone despite it being a MS conference. It's a sad fact that Windows Phone would be in a much better state if MS had never bought Nokia and left them to make their own devices.

Linux is not for everyone though. A lot of stuff people are used to just won't work, it sucks as a gamers OS, and for most people it's a rougher version of Mac OSX (I know Mac is built off it before you say so). For some people who know their stuff sure it's "better" (subjective), but I find it ridiculous when people talk like everyone should migrate over and talk like people would have an easy time doing so. You would be surprised at how many people barely know their way around Windows, despite it being the only OS they have ever known.

You should have watched Build, the focus is moving away from apps to Cortana and AI. For example with the Dominos Bot you don't open an app, you just ask your phone to order it for you. Its either going to be amazing or a Clippy centric SkyNet.

At work they bought hundreds to replace ageing blackberry phones but the insecurity has delayed roll out for 3 months as they cannot get the level of security right. I have had the misfortune of using to crock OS on a pc but wiped it after a month after it did it's usual please wait while windows molests itself. Replaced with Linux now which a. works b. is free and c. totally secure. As for the Andy quote he is just the bloke who randomly points at things and says 'I want one'

I've a 920 which I really like and was a bargain. Winpho 8.1 was (is) underrated. Much faster and more reliable than any Android phone I'd had and the camera was great. And a big thing was that the 920 worked well as an actual phone, the call quality and reception were excellent. Now I get the feeling that MS hates their own products. Mix radio closed, and the 'Here' maps will be withdrawn from W10 soon; although the MS map app will remain.
Plus it seems that MS can't be arsed to make an operating system work on their own hardware. I don't like Android and I'm not going down the Apple road. BB is a dead end too now. I don''t know what phone I'll get next. Maybe a cheap Motorola and a new camera.

MixRadio was sold ages ago and HERE has not been exclusive to Windows for even longer. I agree though, MS seems to not care about what's happening to Windows Phone and seem to be hoping rather than trying to make things happen (universal apps is an example). I am leaning towards going back to iPhone if nothing has changed by the time iPhone 7 is released. As I was with them before I already have an account with purchases tied to it, and already have a balance there (I still use iPad after all), but I'm still hoping Windows 10 Mobile will come good.

I honestly don't understand the point of such a high res screen on a phone, i'm quite happy with 1080p on a tv, and considering most content is 720p i'd say 1080p is probably overkill for that too,
would be nice if windows phone (or any mobile os) allowed you to set your own resolution like you could in windows mobile (CE), you could run your device on 320x240 it looked ugly as hell sure but the battery life increase made it worth while if you needed to use it for an extended period of time, I remember easily getting 6+ hours of battery life with tomtom, that was back when tom tom device lasted about 30 minutes on a charge so if your car charged went you just carried a brick that cause your car to get broken into

Personally none as it has limited Apps. I don't see how IOS & Android can be challenged. It would be better to have more than 2 players in the market. Blackberry also suffered though I have the leap 10 as a work phone and they have'nt done themselves any favours.

The HERE app is going but the data is still included in the standard Maps app. Not just that, with HERE pulling their support the exclusivity deal they had with MS for supplying data for the Maps app has also ended so Microsoft has been able to pull in data from additional vendors to.

I've seen advice to get all the updates for your phone and then "reset" your phone and set up again (restoring from backup this time) when you first get it. A lot of hassle but it seems like it would be a bad idea to get a Windows 10 phone and not do this.

Been reading what HERE say and the comments, a lot of it goes over my head since I don't use the maps. "Kiss of death for Windows phones"? I sincerely hope not. A two cornered fight between IOS and Android isn't healthy, as seen by the sniping Android and IOS fanboys. If I really needed HERE then I guess I would get hold off a cheap Android for that and a few apps and continue to use my Nokia phone for everything else.

Well that's a bit harsh. Windows Mobile initially appeared to be a good platform, I've used a few Lumias in the past and found the tiled homescreen layout quite refreshing and having the full power of Windows in your hand was empowering. What is leading to the demise of the OS is Microsoft's lack of commitment to the platform from Day 1, now leading to Windows Mobile market share dropping to close to 1% of global. This lack of commitment was of course picked up by the Developer community from the start, hence while the App store has grown over the years many apps are either fake (just attempts to scam money off punters) or 3rd party apps designed without support from the parent platform making them clearly inferior to their iOS or Android counterparts.
It's a crying shame. Windows Mobile could have been a very viable 3rd alternative to the two big boys.

You might have a duff battery, it happens. My 950XL has the best battery life of any smartphone I have had, my last iPhone came close. The big plus is how quickly you can charge it up on USB 3.1, 20 mins puts a decent charge in it

I had an opportunity to test drive the 950 and loved it. I got two Continuum docks and it replaced my work PC and when I got home it was my media player on my TV; it ran super smooth.

I had to return all the toys after a few weeks, but I am going to get this with the docks; they are so worth it.

Technically it's 2.5k. The only 4k phone I know of is the Xperia Z5 premium.

I would! Don't get me wrong its a good phone with good specs but its just not right, infact I will list my issues here and see if anyone has a fix!
- Photo's taking too long processing / saving - sometimes miss shots and you can't preview them straight away
- When you go into the photo app to view photos it takes a while to refresh and show the latest photo
- Often when you view a text message the live tile doesn't update and it looks like you still have one to read
- When using the default music app it stops responding to button presses
- Whats App doesn't open and you just get the windows phone wall paper on the screen
- Daily mail app starts freezing after about 10mins of usage
- The whole phone grinds to a halt often and a reboot is needed
- Facebook app dosen't show latest news despite it saying that it is
- Frequent reboots and I mean frequent! Only know about it as it asks for my SIM pin
......Didn't get any of these issues with my last lumia - 640, it was flawless!

I had my 920 from launch until this Christmas, I loved that phone, infact I still keep it as a satnav as I bought navigon for it, better than any dedicated one with a longer battery and nicer screen.
However I was excited about the 950 xl, don't get me wrong its an excellent phone, and its not the same as when it was realised, the updates have fixed most of the issues, if not all, I no longer get random reboots, freezing, applications closing for no reason, but personally i'm not sold on windows phone 10, although I recently stayed away and in a hotel continuum is quite nice to have, my biggest gripe is the screen, why do we need a 4k phone, it really drains the battery, I'd rarther have a 1080p or gasp 720p screen and have an epic battery life, but to keep up with the spec mad we have to have a 4k screen???? my other half's 735 still easily lasts 2 days on a charge, why can't we have that on a 'premium' device?
