It is HDR, I have it.
the way we know is that before 'HDR' was standardized all companies put their own names on the tech, Samsung has 'Peak Illuminator Ultimate', Sony has ' X-Tended Dynamic Range', Visio has 'Dolby Vision' and LG has....... 'Ultra Luminance'
Please don't throw around comments if you don't know.
Do a google search for this TV model and you will get lots of information from many websites including AV forums, trusted reviews and even some explaining how HDR works like this one http://www.digitaltrends.com/home-theater/hdr-for-tvs-explained/
Again, I can confirm it has HDR as I own this TV set and can play HDR content without fault, all settings become locked to the HDR standard and the colour range and brightness is amzaing

pah, why buy this when i saw a boosh one at half the price with twice the pixles (8000K). it had red and blue ones. no greens, but greens are a marketing trick. the human eye can't detect green. that's why it used on snooker tables to not distract the players.

Had this TV for a month now. Fantastic picture, both on HD and 4K. Very smooth and responsive interface.
Only downside is that I wanted its USB recording to work and it doesn't. For example, Recording HD MOTD results in pixellisation and stuttering. LG support useless. Blamed my signal for being too strong. Funny that the issue never happened in live viewings or now on my BT HD recorder.

your usb maybe too slow.
I've had similar issues and usually it's the usb speeds, either it's too slow or too fragmented, and thus also slow.
try using a faster speed usb.

There may or may not. We simply don't know.
There are vague comments about firmware updates and/or HDMI boards (which would require a service technician) but those are just general comments about the possibility of updating a 2015 model to HDMI 2.0a. Those comments are not from LG and definitely not specifically about this model.
I can only speak about facts, at the time of writing it doesn't support HDR via a HDMI source and there is no guarantee it comes in the future. You can make your own buying decisions based on those facts.

From what I've read though there will be some sort of adapter to convert to hdmi 2.0a.
I'll be ordering this tv from RS tomorrow, had a look at the 850v in curry's and really liked it but for the extra £39 I'd rather get the HDR model... Even if it is early doors for the technology
voodooboard
3 Apr 161#54
Not exactly.
HDMI 2.0a is an extension to allow the HDR metadata to be sent over HDMI alongside the image.
HDR TVs released prior to the creation of 2.0a simply don't support or understand this metadata, so they only support HDR via an internally decoded video (eg Netflix app on the TV).
In theory HDMI 2.0a support could be applied via a firmware update to some 2015 HDR TVs. Not all. But you will have to check this on a model-by-model basis.
So the current status of this TV is that it supports HDR via internally decoded sources, but not externally. That's all we can say right now. If it changes in the future, great. But don't buy this TV on the assumption it will support HDR for 4K Bluray etc.

Sounds like they need it calibrating.
Yes it's not as good as my plasma but I would not say it is bad, in normal brightness living room at night (I have 1 table lamp on) the blacks are black and the colours are fine.
voodooboard
31 Mar 162#48
To clarify the HDR situation, this set supports HDR10 but not Dolby Vision (two competing standards).
It definitely supports HDR10 for internally decoded content (delivered to the TV via internet, USB stick) but it's currently unknown whether it supports HDR10 from an external source (eg HDMI connected 4K player).
You require a new HDMI extension called 2.0a to get HDR from an external source. This TV is not advertised as having it...it's something that possibly could be added via a firmware update but no promises.
So the current situation is that this TV supports HDR to a degree, but not fully.
HDR and 4K are a ballache with all the competing standards and the way that TVs have gradually rolled out supporting some stuff and not others.

From what I understood HDMI 1, 2 & 3 support HDMI 2.0a, it's just the fact no external device currently have it. I'm awaiting the firmware update to my Nvidia Shield to allow 'a' to be processed then all should be good

HEAT on size and price reduction [more to come!]
However, this set is the lower end of the UHD scale for colour grading as far as *HDR* specification pass rate
for sets manufactured after Nov 2015..
EG: It has *passed* the needed level to be sold by a manufacturer set by the alliance for UHD-1 [phase1] so
as more sets are released this year and into 2017, the hdr gamma curve availability will increase as more are
passed through the alliance certifications ;-)
Also remember that fast, sporty events, even filmed in raw 4k will struggle with the current batch of hdr sets..
the more going on in the scene you are watching, the more hvs compensation is needed to stop colour bleed
to the human eye.. the luminance range needs extending each ultra update!
In simpler *Curry's / PC World* sales talky talk.. you need a 10bit min hdr tv to see the complete
benefit of uHDR sets.. and even then, motion will be an issue via some sources / apps etc etc..

According to reviews it is 32ms on gaming mode and just over 50ms standard. Not as good as Samsung but fine for most games or gamers. You won't get that much better than 32ms on a 4k screen I reckon.

The input lag on this isn't great. Can't remember exact figures, but it's what stopped me buying it a few months back. You need a decent Samsung 4K set if you want sub 30ms.
Edit: 45-55ms according to an owner, looking back on a previous thread on hukd.

Best purchase in years... No buyers remorse at all
I can confirm set has LG's colour prime which when used states on screen that HDR is present ( only really tested with test downloaded content)
4K picture is superb
1080p is wonderful
Sd is a little lacking
Has Freeview HD and Satellite tuner with very limited epg (but still useful for basic channels including 4K Astra satellite feed)

just got this reply from John Lewis
Thank you for your enquiry.
In order to apply a price reduction on a purchase, the criteria in our pricing policy must be met. I regret that after review the request you have submitted does not match all or parts of this policy.
We match prices publicly available to all customers, based on those displayed in a shop, on the high street competitor's own website, or the first price quoted to us over the phone. The price has to apply to an identical individual product in terms of make, model, size or colour. This approach ensures consistency for all our customers and ensures the policy is transparent.
I have contacted Selfridges directly and found that the LG 55UF860V 4K Ultra-HD 3D Smart TV does not come with 3D glasses, whereas the John Lewis one comes with two pairs.
Therefore, on this occasion I am sorry I cannot match the price offered by Selfridges. If you would like to view more information about Never Knowingly Undersold and our pricing you can do so on our website.
I am sorry I have not been able to reduce the price on this occasion. If you require any further information or assistance please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours sincerely,
Jon

I think the input lag is bad on these for gaming, around 50/60, god i notice it on my 5 yearold 20ms tv, you would think it would get better with the newer screens, all this fancy processing just adds to it, i think 50/60 is with gaming mode on as well.

(Was on for £829, discount code took it down to £789, also got over 4000 Rakuten points worth £40 and now waiting for csshback claim for another £25 even if that fails I effectively paid less then £750).
Was sold by PRC direct. They took over a week to deliver because they were out of stock which was fine as I wasn't in a rush.
Absolutely brilliant TV was looking to buy when around £1000 and stumbled upon Rakuten deal.

I had the PS51D550, the lower end of 3D Plasmas from 4 or 5 years ago. It was a great TV and the black levels were better than this LCD (obviously) but the picture quality on the LG is outstanding.
I haven't really used the inbuilt Freeview or Freesat but can say the picture quality is just alright. With Sky plugged in it is much better, I think it's to do with the way the signal is handled beforehand and how compressed it is when it reaches the TV.
Xbox one is very sharp but has a little more lag than the Plasma, i think it's around the 35ms mark. There is slight DSE on my set when pastel colours are filling the screen, it's not terrible but coming from a Plasma I noticed it, now it's been 4 months of ownership I don't notice it as much.
The colours it can reproduce is brilliant on normal TV let alone when you get some HDR content plumbed into it from Amazon (Man in the High Castle/Bosch/Red Oaks) or locally (test files available online).
If you get one have a look on AV forums for picture setup tips
