This was 7.99 earlier in the year, discontinued model in the clearance section
Comes with batteries and has built in buzzer, description states flaslight but the one i picked up today didn't have one.
There are cheaper Chinese ones on Ebay but something that tests voltage i personally think you need a trusted brand and has been properly certified

I've had a similar one for years and there an invaluable addition to a tool kit .Instantly find out if the cable/socket or switch has a live feed going to it without taking the cover's off anything .
Ideal if checking a fuse in a kettle plug for instance ,if there is no light or buzzer when putting the pen near the base of the kettle , then the power switch is off , fuse in the plug has blown or you haven't paid your lecy bill!

Hardly tool , just don't rely on these for isolating power.

A great thing to have, but this model from Screwfix is useless. I found it struggles to detect voltage on light switches, and even through cables.

Yep these ones are like that, get a fluke, more money but you only buy once and it works !

got a cheap ebay one, noticed sometimes on one side of a thicker cable it lights up, so possible that the side where the live is inside.

Judging by the majority of positive reviews your probably right. It was that cheap I didn't bother to exchange it.

I always turn the power on and off, while mine (cheap ebay one) buzzes , just to make sure its not developed a fault.
