mmmm... almost 9W and no radiator - just plastic cover - and I was worried about Chinese one 7W with real aluminium radiators - £1 for 1 bulb

It'll be heat from the LED(s) as well as the driver. And yes, unlike the traditional incandescent bulb, high temperatures are not good for the life of the LEDs or the electronics.

Maybe the wattage actually goes into the light, and not heat?

Purchased these recently, and they do indeed have WAF.
Been using these , good cheap lamps (no failures so far-20 lamps, 4 months). No daylight option unfortunately, I prefer the light given by daylight lamps.
Limited stock in central Scotland though it does get replenished.

Can anyone recommend higher wattage than these equivalent to 100w gls
premierfella to ws007
2 Mar 16#17
I wouldn't be fooled by that 60W equivalent. As stated on previous threads, when compared with CFL 100W equivalent they are virtually on a par with that rather than 60W equivalent (based on my own personally experience of them). Unless you are still using traditional 100W bulbs, you'll almost certainly find that these do the job just fine.

Why do you want higher wattage? That means it uses more power.
What you want is more lumens?
It's amazing how many people measure bulbs with the wrong measurement. What you should look for is high lumen, low wattage. You want as much light as you can from as little power usage as possible.

Good deal, but the lm is a low for wattage.

Do these use less or more electricity than philips genie bayonet 18w???
livid_chimp to f3rgy15
2 Mar 164#14
18 is generally considered to be a higher number than 8.7 in most cultures.
So less than the Philips.

If you are comparing led with led, cfl with cfl, then higher the watts, the more the cost. Hope this helps

Great bulbs. Will pulse with an older type pir sensor btw. I had three flashing the other night ,looked like the paparazzi were in the back garden flashing away with their cameras.

Brilliant bulbs. Bought some last time in cool white, perfect colour temp and nice and bright.

I can second this. I purchased 10 last time these appeared on HUKD and I'm extremely happy with them. The light output is definitely better than tungsten filament 60W bulbs and they give the appearance of traditional bulbs rather than the awful first generation energy savers that take forever to warm up and make ones home feel like a 1970's office. I can't recommend these highly enough at this price.

Good bulbs, definitely brighter. For LED GU10s and SES bulbs, if you have time it's cheaper to hop onto ebay.

I bought these bulbs last time they were on here. As folks say, they are bright and closer to 100 W equivalents than 60 W. My only gripe with them is how hot they get... not the 'bulb' itself, but the plastic surrounding where the driver (?) electronics must be (i.e. at the end where the bayonet fitting is). Once they are on for more than a few minutes, you can't touch the plastic without burning your fingers. Makes me nervous having electronics getting this hot and the plastic will probably go brittle after a few years of use. Maybe I'm fussing over nothing though?

Bought these just over 1 month ago.
These are an excellent buy for the price.
A really nice warm bright light - so much better than the fluorescent bulbs they have replaced.
Whats more it an "Instant On" bright light. No warming up.
I would rate these as 85watt light output if not more

No these aren't, but 6x GU10 LED is about £10 same for 6xSES. Also eBay vendors sell higher equivalent wattage LEDs as well.

just snagged the last two packs from Aylesbury and couldn't see any in stock elsewhere. Thanks for posting this, it couldn't have been a better time with us replacing all the old crappy energy saving bulbs we inherited. Having a house renovation on means I'm also skint so again thanks

These were in stock in Birkenhead yesterday, but I was waiting to pick some up at the weekend... now out of stock. :disappointed:
I hold this post entirely responsible for the rapid depletion of stock!!!
These bulbs are in high demand, and have been OOS for months... Screwfix need to sort out their supplies.

Unfortunately it's not about LED lighting; it's about the most basic of things - power consumption. If someone doesn't know what a watt is they'll have no idea at all about how to save energy.

3 Mar 16#38
Except ws007 was not talking about watts, but about equivalence to incandescent bulbs, which is light output!

But a watt isn't a measurement of light output, it's a measurement of power. It's almost as stupid as measuring the light output in metres.
Why not find out how many lumens the incandescent bulbs output and then buy an LED bulb giving out the same lumens with as low of a wattage as possible?
pibpob
3 Mar 16#42
I repeat, watts were not being used here. The units were "amount of light being given out by a 100W incandescent light bulb" which is actually reasonably sensible, as it is an amount of light that people have some vague handle on. I agree that the first part of the question was unfortunate though, and should have been something like "brighter".[/quote]OK, so you understood after all that watts were not being used as a measurement of light output.
