Huawei P8 Lite dropped in price again at CPW, top up needed or upgrade version making it £99.99 (£89.99 + £10.00 on vodafone).

But, each time I've tried to upgrade - and with a valid sim - at CPW, 'computer says no'. If it said no when I'm spending nearly £100 on a phone, computer likely to get my foot up its....

I have the P8 Lite for a couple of months and its a very good phone but the battery life is rubbish.
The battery never lasts a day even on mimimum usage and it also takes an age to charge .
I previously had a Huawei Y550 ,that lasted 3 days on average.
The screen isnt bright enough either on the P8 Lite .
Apart from that though its a fine phone but Im going to sell it on and get something with a better battery.

Good post, very neutral.
If you wanted to save some dosh however, have you thought about getting a refurbished 5S instead of the SE? There are some great deals on 32GB Grade B variants at the moment, with a 12 month warranty, via long-established eBay seller 'PlayGadgets'. Think the network locked ones are around £150 and not a lot more for the unlocked ones. Remember if you buy an EE-locked one, you can easily just pay EE £8.99 to get it unlocked even though it's preowned and you aren't the original owner.
A large screen Android device fan myself, but £150 is really tempting for an iPhone 5S. I can certainly see where you're coming from when you state that you prefer the way iOS works though. Android does indeed have its ups and downs, but so does iOS I guess.

After having this for 7 weeks and using it for about 4 of those, I decided it wasn't for me. Don't get me wrong, it's an unbelievable phone for the price. I just couldn't get used to the Android OS compared to iOS, the size of it at 5" after using an iPhone 4s for years and there were just a few minor irritating things about it like button placement, having to use glitchy 3rd party apps to personalise it, nothing major. I suspect I'd have the same issues with a flagship Android phone like a Samsung S7 I guess?
Anyways, the purpose of this post is to say that I sold the phone in used (albeit immaculate condition) on eBay Sunday just gone for £115, cash on collection and the unused £10 SIM for £7. So after all the maths/fees, I've actually made a profit... :sunglasses: !! Okay only about a tenner but I won't grumble. I'm sure a new sealed one would sell for more than £115. Madness.
I'm getting an iPhone SE 64gb in Space Grey next week as my replacement, can't wait but obviously the £439 price is slightly more eye watering than the staggering cheapness of the P8 Lite.
If you're on the fence about purchasing one, I'd say go for it. Dip your toes and if you like it, great. If not then you can sell it and quite likely make a small profit, well at least while CW are currently selling them for £79 (I paid £89) and the P9 Lite is under wraps...

If you get a chance you should try to see the actual working phones in a shop if you can. The mockup version of the p8 lite actually looks pretty cool, but when you see and use the real phone honestly the screen is so disappointing. Poor resolution and really big black bezels around the edges dont look great. In comparison the ultra looks naff in photos and mockups but when you handle the real phone its actually not too shabby with a really good screen for the price plus its decently fast too.
I have 1st gen moto g. Is the battery any better on P8 lite.

this is tempting , currently have a huawei P2, which is good but the battery life is dire, lasts 3/4 of a day with light use, changed for a new battery but still no better
Quidco are also offering me a £10 bonus special purchase, plus the usual £5 quidco with CPW, plus sell the £10 sim on eBay for another £5, so around £80 all in
but if the battery on this is not the best, ill be back to where i started with the P2?

I've tried umpteen times now with iPhone & iPad using Safari & Chrome on the mobile site for the Vodafone & O2 upgrade prices but either get the error messages or diverted to desktop site and sake doesn't go through/no confirmation email. I've also tried click and collect/reserve but still nothing so looks like I'll do the standard P&G option so with the Top Casback, will be £94.74 delivered - Not too shabby I reckon for a decent phone! Beats paying £600+ for an iPhone 6s!!! Not sure how people are 'bypassing' the upgrade option but fair play lucky them if so!

It's the 'new sim' price vs the 'upgrade' price, the upgrade is cheaper but you need to be eligible for it (not everyone seems to be able to get the workaround to work of using a mobile browser to bypass eligibility).

Yes, but it comes with second SIM slot disabled. You have to flash a ROM to enable Dual SIM. Not for the faint hearted but there are step by step guides. See previous P8 thread
rasdonny
18 Mar 16#45
I wld if i had known all this before customising it - ie changed it from single-sim to dual-sim, upgraded the rom to one of the most recent rom and installing many app onto it including flashed recovery (TWRP), and made a few to calls to o2 and sent a few text messages to o2 & EE & TPO customer services, plus it registered in my name so worried now about privacy issues if i sell it on.
However, how much you willing to pay for it though, as it will take sometime to get rid of everything?
by the i got it from CPW on the rec'ed it around 20-Feb-16, never left the house, being sitting on the shelf mostly as im looking for an xpose framework hack etc.

A good phone - but if you use "Xpose Framework" apps then dont buy this phone, as "xpose framework" doesnt work on this phone or on any Huawei with "EMUI 3 and above" phones.

Not sure about o2, but I was told by CPW staff that to be eligible via Vodafone you have to have had the SIM for more than 6 months and have topped up at least £10 EVERY single month. There are going to be very, very few people who are eligible for this upgrade, if that is the case.

Have tried on mobile with Chrome, Dolphin & Mozilla.

Do look at the comparison carefully, as the Ultra has a much larger battery rated at 3000mAh vs 2200mAh.
I also suggest looking for example photographs, can be found usually on individual reviews of each.
If there is a store nearby, play around with both if they allow you, best way to get a feel of both and make a decision.

I suppose it comes down to what you want overall, a larger and more heavier screen at 1080p from the Ultra 6 or going for the lighter, smaller and less pixel screened P8 lite.
As well as the potential differences between the cpu/gpu, though the software of each will play a big part in terms of performance.

I bought this when it was £79.99 for a PAYG upgrade. Nicely built phone & looks good for the money but it's badly let down by the quality of the screen. It's not very bright & has poor contrast levels. The screen on my old Moto G was a lot better.
