Another HP business laptop. Good quality.

Lastest gen i3-6100U, quite powerful for an i3 U version. Score higher than i5-5200u is to my surprise.

Integrated HD Graphics 520 GPU is quite good for an integrated. I have read somewhere it is better than AMD Radeon R6. I could be wrong.

4GB RAM is small, but cheap and easy to upgrade.

The screen is non-FHD.

128GB M.2 SATA SSD is using the M.2 slot. It has been confirmed that you can put in a 2.5 inch HDD for storage.

Win 7 Pro is a plus too.

Pay £350 upfront. can claim 125 + 50 cashback. If all sucessful, work out £175. See reply 1 for cashback details.

Credit to roaspaan35 for bring the deal to my attention.

A lot people seem have questions about cashback. I give a little summary below hope to clear things up. They are from last time I read it. I have not re-read, please double check and let me know if anything changed.

£50 cashback.
Straight cash, not string attached. Apply 30 days from invoice date.
HP need to know two things, how much you paid for, and confirmation of model no: 450 G3 - P5T14ET.
They need to a scan of your invoice when you apply. If 450 G3 - P5T14ET is not on invoice, you will need to upload a photo of the sticker on the box showing 450 G3 - P5T14ET as well.

£125 trade-up cashback
Apply straight away after you got your invoice.
There is no brand restriction. You can give HP your old device in whatever brands.
If you are claiming as individual end user, answer as follows:
Are you a UK VAT registered business? answer No.
Customer Type, answer "Small Business (1-10 staff)".

The conditions are:

1. Trade-in device must be fully working conditions. Any part not working, HP will take money off.
2. Tablet not less than 9 inch, laptop not less than 10 inch.

3. If you trade in PC/laptop originally comes with Win XP, no age restriction.
If you trade in PC/laptop originally comes with system other than XP, no more than 6 years old.

Cheapest way, you have an old one not needed.

The next is by a xp laptop off ebay for £20-30, a lot work because you have to make sure everything is fully function (battery etc).

The easiest way if you do not have an old device, is to buy a 9 inch tablet for less than £50, you only need to make sure the tablet is fully working. 2nd hand cheap ones especially those from China, or Nook HD+ from CeX.

i3-6100U score 3519, improved a lot over previous genertions.
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i3-6100U+%40+2.30GHz&id=2623

i5-5200U score 3514
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i5-5200U+%40+2.20GHz&id=2440

There is a free SATA connector, you can buy a 2TB 2.5 inch HDD for around £50 and put in for storage. You can have both 128GB SSD and 2TB HDD at the same time.

Model number is 450 G3 - P5T14ET
Individual end users can claim both cashbacks on one laptop. It has always been the case in the past. HP never ask a question.

£125 tradeup cashback

I got both my tradein and cashback approved(waiting it be paid now). Not sure if this did the trick but I gave the wrong invoice number during tradeup claim(order no instead) and used the correct one for cashback.

22 Apr 16 #216
I do not want to disagree.

I think even without the £50 cashback, it still works out cheaper than a budget consumer laptop at £300.

Do you agree?

So you have not paid anything extra for its premium quality over a budget consumer laptop.

Just had the cashback refused because I already applied for the trade-in. Seems like HP have changed from both cashbacks to either/or. Used to be a good deal getting both cashbacks. With only single cashback it's not worth it IMO. Shame as I used to like upgrading my laptops this way.... HP Probooks aren't necessarily worth that premium price IMO without the dual cashbacks so will think twice in future.

Nope not yet. It says it can be up to 2 months for payment and I did get a strange email titled: RE: RECTIFICATION - HP Inc. UK Vendor Setup confirmation request so perhaps it is moving. On the tracking page it was set to Approved for ages and not received but now says Query, so it looks like something has gone wrong....

EDIT: Mine has just turned to Validated this afternoon

chrischarles
23 Mar 16 #211
Yes lots of questions about the trade-in:
Does it need to have an XP sticker to be valid (or just that it originally came with XP?)?
Would I have to send in KB mouse etc with the desktop unit as it says all accessories?

Thoughts please! Thanks

Has anyone ever sent in a trade without hard drive? I have one which doesnt have one... Guess I could pick up a cheap hard drive, but would probably be easier just to pick up a second hand tablet for a similar price and still be left with my old laptop :S

Would they accept it or would they deduct a certain amount off?

Check the order status in your account - mine has just moved onto "packing" from "processing" after about 24 hours!

It stated delivery within 48 hours, why not wait to see if they deliver before being unimpressed

I imagine they do it on a batch cycle - once per day at the end of the day ready for the next day courier pickup.

I ordered yesterday at 2pm, still haven't had confirmation of order acceptance/delivery details through, I can't imagine they had that many orders through yesterday that they can't keep up with demand... Im just waiting for a "Sorry we have had to cancel your order" email...

Thanks OP.

Ordered yesterday just after 5pm before the price change and delivered before 12pm today.

Anyway just checked the old HP Win XP Home laptop that I wanted to trade in and the battery is faulty and maybe the trackpad, typical. :disappointed:

I could declare the faulty battery and take the £20 hit.

I also have an unopened 32GB HP Touchpad with a bunch of accessories which I could probably sell separately.

So I guess my question is which one does anyone consider more worthless?

Then it is a case different HP employees give out different answer. That is very typical in most of large corporations.

I and many others here can guarantee you that HP cashbacks have been there for over a year, they have said yes and told us the way to answer the questions. And we got our cashbacks, never been asked a question in addition.

Trade-up can be claimed straight away. If you are in doubt, do not open the box. Apply and upload your invoice and possibly the tag on the box showing exactly model. It takes 1 to 2 working days for them to valid your claim. If they reject your claim which is very unlikey, and you do not want it at £300 (you can still get £50 cashback), return the laptop as you have 14 days from receiving delivery under DSR. You should heard the result long before 14 days if you apply quickly.

By the way, even at £300 this laptop is a good deal.

At £300 at the moment, you can only find budget consumer laptop with i5-5200u, HDD not SSD.

My other A10 Probook deal at £290 after cashback is out of stock anyway.

On behalf of everybody who has posted in this thread, I'd like to thank huangxq2 for all the assistance he has given to us all in his responses to our queries. I hesitated because I'd like something with a similar price and spec but a little smaller, say 13.5 or 14" screen, and missed out. Most of the HPs of that size are either Chromebooks or they are considerably more expensive. Thanks, huangxq2 !

Normally you have to wait a period of time (30 days) for these types of cashback claims - so if you've purchased today you may have to wait until 30 days from now to submit your claim. I'm not entirely sure this is the case, but it normally is - best to read the Ts & Cs.

Individual end users can claim both cashbacks on the laptop.

OK. I see.

So different websites give slight different results which happens just turn it the other way because those two have quite similar scores.

I think it is fair to say that the i3-6100U has similar powers as i5-5200U, not far off.

Either way, it is a quite powerful U version CPU for laptop standards, and will certainly have more than enough power for any normal usage.

I've only used a 840 G1, but I would say it's not so much that they have gone down in quality, it's more that with the 840 at under 2KG while still using a metal chassis they are no longer as sturdy as the older 2.4KG+ 8470p and so on.
The 840 is basically an Ultrabook (very thin) but still has a tool-less service trapdoor and two SoDIMMs (unlike the competing Lenovo Thinkpads). Pity the hinge doesn't open more. Also, make sure to get a backlit keyboard as unlike Thinkpads there is no ThinkLight.
Oh, and HP came to some sense with M.2 slot on the G2: it's not 2260 not 2242 (irony was that on the G1, 2242 would have fitted but the put a permanent metal bolt in the way).

Probook are good quality, we use them at work. Other people confirmed they are good too.

840 is Elitebook which is even higher. But I have not used Elitebook yet. I have heard from someone, Elitebook has gone done in quality recently, they are more like Probook now.

So, I cannot quite answer your question.

Elitebook tend to be very expensive. There was a recent Elitebook 745 very cheap, but the CPU is a weak A6 which put people off.

"128GB M.2 SATA SSD is using the M.2 slot. You may be able to put in a 2.5 inch HDD for storage. But I have not got confirmation about that."

How do I do the £50 cashback? I can see the £125 one (needs a serial so need to receive the laptop one first), butwhen I go to the £50 link, it shows the laptop but nowhere to put a claim in?

From your experience, may be they do not have to be.

But it is a risk though.

I'm very tempted by the HP EliteBook 840 G2 Laptop (i5 5th gen) - £795 with total trade-in & cashback it brings it easily under £500. Do you think this is better value than HP Probook 450 G3?

I am totally agree with you. The SATA should be there as there are other 450 G3 use SATA HDD instead of M.2 SSD. There is no reason why HP should take out the SATA connector.

But I have been wrong in the past on Probook 455 G3 with the free M.2 slot, and given wrong advice.

So before I say the SATA on 450 G3 is there, it is better to have confirmation from someone has the laptop.

But the easiest way is go to BIOS, there should be a date. That date is the manufacturing date of the motherboard.

I bought this in December from HP when it was £402. I sent in an old XP working laptop and received my £150 trade in (as it was over £400). I got confirmation of the £50 cash back last week. Just make out you're a sole trader and put your name down as the Company.

So we bought HP laptops, claimed both. No one ask any questions. Both cashbacks received fine.

You buy qualify HP products, you can trade in any brands. There is no restriction on brand re the old device you give to HP.

16 Mar 16 #61
Doesn't mention the brand in the terms, I'm sending in an Asus and have read others have sent Dell's etc

"For your Trade-in to qualify for the promotion it must be a working, complete and undamaged, (reasonable wear and tear accepted) Laptop (minimum 10” screen size), Tablet (minimum 9” screen size) or Desktop. Your Trade-in must be no more than 6 years old (age limitations are not applicable to genuine Microsoft XP computers) and complete with all accessories including working battery and power supply where applicable".

Thanks alot, pretty sure it came with it - it has a sticker "Designed for Windows XP - Windows Vista compatible".

The only thing is that the battery doesn't hold a charge at all and powers off without mains power.

I noticed this in the terms - so in my case there may be a deduction for the battery not working.

Non qualifying trade-ins will be subject to the following deductions:

Battery worn out / failed £20
Cracked / damaged casing / Heavily Scratched £20
Dead Motherboard £50
Missing 1 or more keys from keyboard £10
Missing/ Failed Power Supply £20
Permanent marking (etched / asset tag) £20

I thought the same as you too. But I have been given evidence it is not the case in the past.

450/455 are the same form and cases. Both have room for SATA and M.2.

450 G2 has HDD, and has a free M.2.

455 G3 has HDD, and the M.2 connector is actually taken out, just a empty space there.

450 G3 has M.2 SSD, does the SATA connector stay?

I would think that 450 G3 using M.2, the SATA connector should still be there. But I cannot be sure if HP has not taken it out. Which is why I would like confirmation before I states it as absolute.

Probook 450 G3 Review

On this link if you scroll down to 'Storage device and memory card reader', it says and shows there is a spare m2 slot - the laptop being reviewed has a normal HDD in it so does that mean the one in this thread should have a spare SATA if the m2 is being used?

Certainly this i3. As this i3 is quite powerful, it is directly comparable to i5-5200u.

250 is HP consumer laptop, they are bad bad quality.

You will notice the quality from the first touch. It is not something you only imagine. And HP consumer laptops do not last from what people told me.

Besides the specs is similar to this one, I do not know if the 250 G4 qualify for cashback because I cannot tell the exact model.

Ignore the HP pavillion at £300, the other business laptops are so much better.

CPU: I expect the A10 should be slightly more powerful, not a lot.

GPU: Not sure, both are quite good for integrated, have not seen direct comparision, I have only seen compare to A8 R6 and HD Graphics 520 is better.

Memory: A10 has 8GB, this one has 4GB. Memory can be upgraded easily and cheaply. My suggestion is do not put too much emphasis on memory when come to computer if it can be upgraded. (There are some laptops has RAM soldered to the motherboard.)

There are some models put in 16GB RAM unnecessarily, and ask for lot of money. And people see 16GB RAM and thought it is high end and just jump on the deal. It is a mis-perception by a lot of people.

Battery: i3 should have more than 7 hours, A10 is 3 hours.

Price: i3 is very good if you get all cashbacks.

Storage: The A10 only has a SATA, it comes with 1TB HDD. If you want SSD, the HDD needs to come out.
The i3 has 128GB M.2 SATA SSD, the M.2 SSD is more expensive than 1TB HDD. You might be able to put in a 2.5 inch HDD for storage if there is a free SATA connector. I do not have conformation of this yet.

If I am to choose from those two, I would go for the i3. I always got all HP cashbacks, never had problem. Good battery, fast M.2 SSD, powerful too, option to expand storage (let's hope), and cheap.

If you can get all cashbacks, you really cannot get anything better for £175. Even you only get it to £300, I still think it is very good consider i5-5200u with HDD is £330.
