When technology advanced and milk was kept fresher for longer, Hershey started using fresh milk but faced a backlash from their customers because the chocolate didn't have that distinctive vomity tang (seriously... what the hell was wrong with them?). So, if my memory serves, they started adding a chemical called butyric acid to the recipe. Butyric acid is what gives milk the distinctive sour smell and taste.

Yes it's true - research it for yourself, don't take my word for it. Look at the ingredients on the pack - they list PGPR as well. Use Google & type "why does Hersheys taste like sick?"

hersheys are only around through patriotism they sourced chocolate to the army in ww2 and used it as an advertising tool support the troops eat the same chocolate and that is how they built there brand thats why they were never successful over here we only cared about the taste

I remember buying a bar of Dairy Milk in New York and being massively disappointed with the flavour, on inspection the back of the label stated "made under license by Hershey". Not good

Hersey's is awful chocolate. would only eat in an emergency.... I've driven past the factory many years ago and it smelled fantastic, unlike the test of their chocolate... vomit flavour...

They are vomit flavoured - due to the acid they use to pasteurise the milk...
I guess it's a deal though...

Have to say, I am a chocoholic yet cannot stand these personally. Heat added as it is a good price for those who like them and struggle to find them in the UK.
