Just to clarify in case anyone misreads the description, Halal Haribo are not vegetarian.

As a Muslim I know it's halal by virtue of it being vegetarian (and knowing haribos don't use alcohol!).

No, it's about vegetarian AND halal sweets... And while it may make bigots feel a bit better about their own animal cruelty, I'm not sure the animals being raised in industrial conditions then slaughtered notice much difference...


If they decreed you can't eat pig then I imagine they would care whether you eat pig or not. Obviously the religious have a screw loose, but obeying the commands they believe come from God is one of their more logical positions!

If the packets say suitable for vegetarian then the source of gelatine is from plant extracts, this is widely available in supermarkets to cater for people who dont eat meat etc. but require gelatine to make jelly type food. Nothing to do with halal meat whatsoever (unless it doesnt state suitable for vegetarian).

Oh shush. I give zero **** about you eating vegetarian, or vegan, or whatever, complete respect for your choices. Do you go up to smokers and call them future cancer sufferers? Or drinkers and call them out for future cirrhosis? And for killing animals, I assume you also do the same to the military for murder as an industry as well? Or is it just animals you care about?

You realise that in the UK basically all animals for halal meat are stunned first, like regular meat, and then their throat is slit. They feel no pain, and in all fairness we're killing animals regardless once we're past the point of stunning them. Its not like they're tortured, its a very quick death for them. Plus, I tend to find halal meat is better value for money, as the butchers are usually cheaper than non-halal butchers.

I'm sure observant Muslims care... I'd imagine one of the primary ways they have of knowing a product is Halal is the Halal logo, just as one of my primary ways of knowing a product is vegetarian is the vegetarian logo.
