I'd bet my last estus flask it'll work with steam. The whole online multiplayer is based around it for a start so it's 100% certain.

I'm still waiting and have just been told by customer services that they are still waiting for stock from their supplier.
Certainly won't be buying from Zavvi again, no matter how good the deal is.
