Why is this lukewarm deal highlighted as a 'HUKD Pick' on the front page?
Is it because of the commission that GearBest pays to HUKD?

I used to like HUKD a lot, as it was a community driven forum that promotes genuine good deals / mispriced / shopping tricks etc.
However, as the site grows bigger and bigger and the profits paid by vendors' commission becomes more and more, this place seems no longer the same place that I knew few years ago...

If you look at reviews you'll find that this tablet has awful speakers, but the main issue that I have with this deal is that it's GearBest. Yes they often have some cheap deals, but their returns policy is pathetic.

If you have any issues with the tablet then GearBest will give you some options. You can either pay to send the tablet to China (even though you might of bought it from their UK or EU warehouse) and then get screwed over by them saying that they didn't receive it, or you can accept aprox £20 worth of "credit" that goes to your GearBest wallet and you also keep the defective tablet. None of their options result in you getting a fully working replacement for free.

Pay a little more and go with a company that isn't going to screw you over if you receive a defective product.

Yes, it will be like a number of these devices. Chuwi Hi8, Hi10, Vi8 and Vi10 all had the same feature. Usually it's swapped in the OS using a simple icon on the desktop/UI.

All told I don't think I would be willing to risk over £100 with Gearbest and getting no customer service.

Benchmark comparing this tabs CPU with the Z3735 you commonly see in tablets these days. Mostly the same except that this tab has better 3D. Of course it also has much more memory than you normally see in a Z3735 tab and more storage.

Agreed, when you buy from China, basically you accept you are buying with absolutely ZERO returns policy so if anything goes wrong then it's simply tough luck and just write it off.

This is fine if it's an item only worth a few quid but don't think I'd like to take a chance on a tablet worth over £100

I've installed the Cube iWork 7 ROM on my Linx 7 therefore converting it to dual-boot and for that at least it's just a simple touch-screen menu at boot and additionally options in both OSes to reboot into the other.

19 Mar 16 4 #20
Well, that's good to hear. Too bad I wasn't offered that as an option as I would of returned my tablet to your UK warehouse and got a replacement. I refused to send it to China as the tracked postage costed at least half of what the tablets valued at.

I'm sure that if you accepted returns to your local warehouses then you'll start getting some more positive reviews.

When you do start accepting local returns I'll consider using GearBest again. Right now though I wouldn't like to take the risk as I've already been burned.

I'm so tempted by these but dual boot isn't for me. Nearly bought a Chuwi Hi10 a few months back but the Z8300s seem to have overheating issues across the board - the Linx 10 I have doesn't have the world's greatest speaker either. Hoping a UK seller offers a competitively priced Windows tablet with more grunt and a better screen soon.
soza
19 Mar 16 1 #32
The audio on the Linx 10 isn't amazing, but based off of the video evidence it's still way better than the iWork 10.

After getting burned by GearBest I ended up buying a spares/repair Linx 8 from eBay for £20. I taken the LCD screen from that and used it to fix my original Linx 8, so I now have a fully working tablet with a good quality screen and amazing audio quality again.

I'll probably wait a while before I buy another tablet, especially from GearBest.

Gearbest are fine apart from the inexplicably slow dispatch times on some items and their inability to answer the simplest of questions. Pay via Paypal and you've got nowt to fear
soza
19 Mar 16 6 #35
Not true. Via PayPal GearBest will only offer partial refunds (~£18) and if you let the claim get escalated then PayPal will agree to give you your money back only if you send the tablet as a tracked parcel to China (it costs £50+ to do that), even though you might of bought it from GearBests EU or UK warehouse.

So if you pay £114.46 for this tablet and it has issues then you'd only get about £65 back in total as you'd be down £50 from shipping it to China.

When you receive a defective product you expect to be able to return the item to wherever it was shipped from and either get your money back in full or a replacement free of charge, right? You don't get either with GearBest though and that's a fact. Yeah, it's fine if you don't run into any issues, but the second you do you'll remember posts like this one and wish that you hadn't of bought whatever you did from GearBest.

Agree with Soza, I bought the chewie through PayPal as I had a problem with the unit over heating to cut a long story short I claimed my money back through PayPal, and, it wasn't worth it in the end it was going to cost me £50 to return it tracked. In a nutshell it's a false economy, £47.00 for the Chewie or £50 to return my new doorstop every time I look at my defunked tablet it reminds me never to buy from Bangood or Gearbest please if you are going to buy from these companies use a credit card.

I can't comment about Gearbest as I've managed to avoid using them so far, but the one time I had an issue with a purchase from Banggood, things were sorted pretty easily! There was a crack in the locking mechanism on the waterproof case of my SJ4000 camera. I emailed some pics and described the problem and they said they could send me a replacement case from China. I said that I'd like one from their Eu warehouse as that was where the camera was shipped from, and after having checked that there was stock there (via live chat) I was sent out a replacement case! Not exactly perfect customer service (trying to claim they didn't have Eu stock) but not too bad.

I thought was a bit if a sweeping statement he made. Not like not seen same issues with UK tablets Hudl and amazon ones for example. Yes found apps I don't want or need annoying normally have to Google how to remove. But lot worse when you have 1Gb ram and small memory as then they take us a percentage chunk with this seems far less significant and even then it's an if. You are quite correct, Gearbest use Oneworld as their UK delivery company. What i find strange is that Oneworld actually offer a returns service for companies based abroad, surely it would be quite simple for Gearbest to use that service, but at the moment, as you say, which ever way you buy from Gearbest, you have to return items to China for repair.

On paper, it sounds great. Specs for the money are indeed very good.

But I've had a Chinese tablet before. The build quality was total junk and Android had issues on it as well. I expect things have improved now, for the better known/higher end Chinese stuff. But my one was so bad it pretty much put me off stuff like this. Factor in the slow delivery and dodgy returns policy and I'd probably go elsewhere.

That said, if you take a punt and get a good one, it does appear to represent great value for money.

It was probably actually the best deal I've found and people in the comments had confirmed it was working so I've assumed the reason it got taken down was that there's no commission deal in place.

I know I'm not the first person to have had that problem and seeing a shady company like gearbest get 'HUKD pick' while legitimate deals get shot down makes me trust the site as a whole less.

While i can't comment on the tablet....my advice would be to avoid buying anything major (and that costs upwards of £100+) that COULD develop a fault from sites like these. As one of the "top comments" mentioned that if electronics develop a fault or are DOA its up to you to pay (they insist on tracking) to send items back. I got stung with this by Banggood (a similar site) where they insisted that they hadn't received something back that i'd sent almost 2 months previously. I'd err on the side of caution.

If anyone does buy one and it is DOA I have a winner of a point to help you claim your mkney back from PayPal WITHOUT sending the item back. Worked for me, but will never buy direct from China again because of the way the sellers conduct themselves and are beyond the law in our own country.

I paid $190.94 including the keyboard at Gearbest. If you buy this as a package deal then you get the keyboard for $50.95 over the original price of ($56.61). Plus I added the code which reduced it further and Paypal added a further $10 discount automatic at check out as they where doing a promotional deal. On top of this I went through Topcashback which has always paid out with gearbest (tracked at £10.90) effectively making a total cost of £123.50 (£134.40-10.90)!

And not to forget I got 248 points (nearly $5 free).

As for those that are crying about service. Any Chinese company will do this. These companies are poor with service hence you pay via paypal and always win!

As to the sound quality, it isn't too bad but as with all my devices I always use my headphones/earphones to get a true and better sound

The keyboard is a must as it also contains two full sized USBs and made of a very good quality and the screen can fold in to it in many ways

Some of you may have read that android does not have google play service. They have just released an automatic update which now has this - Not bad from a china company to provide an update via OTA android

Buyer beware. When something goes wrong you will have a battle on your hands!

Gearbest failed to deliver an order to me from their EU warehouse and it has been three months of talking to their time wasting customer service to try to resolve this. It had to be escalated to a Paypal claim for a full refund as they would only offer a 50% refund and then a final offer of 80%. Within the Paypal claim the story changed from the goods being lost to them being held in customs and asking me to wait another week. There are too many inconsistencies in there claims and they do not appear to respect any form of consumer law.

As has already been mentioned Trust Pilot have "discovered a large number of fake reviews on this domain. Consequently, we have investigated all reviews connected to this domain and have removed several hundreds of reviews from the domain.". That and the Gearbest employee lurking in the HotUKDeals forums trying to manage PR all add up to a company that cannot be trusted.

Nonsense @ monkey talk. Gearbest has thousands of complaining victims online. No other company comes close in numbers of victims. I have bought numderous items from Chinese companies via Amazon and ebay as well as many orders from fasttech banggood everbuying and many more via aliexpress and dhgate. because I bought so much there were problems and not all were as good as others. In my experience Gearbest routinely:

1- Sends broken items which they had as returns
2- Send wrong items in huge numbers by intent. Saw them sending a power adapter to someone here instead of TV Box & many more.
3- NEVER EVER acknowledge receiving an item even if recorded and paypal colludes. BASIC FRAUD.
4- Ask for returns to china which costs often more than items specially if recorded.
5- Even if orders cost hundreds of dollars, they only offer $20 vouchers!

Basically there are various levels of service but in terms of sheer evil, Gearbest is the ISIS of the lot.

Don't listen to monkey business hype, AVOID.

Something similar happened to me when they took a deal of mine down because, I was informed at the time, the seller wasn't allowed here; only for the exact same deal to resurface a couple of days later from one of the more cliquey and prolific members and it went scorching.

Needless to say I cottoned on pretty quickly to the rather unpalatable admin policies of this site and vowed to never bother linking a good deal ever again.

To be fair that's kind of a different issue. That good deal still got posted by someone so people could find out about it (as is the point of the site), it just ended up with a different username at the top. Don't get me wrong it's still poor conduct on their part but it's not in the same league as outright banning/ deleting legitimate good deals while promoting dodgy sellers imo. One issue is an irritation I could live with, one makes me wonder if I should use reddit instead.

On an unrelated note I'm not getting any notifications for likes/ replies on this thread (and this one only). Wonder if it's just a random technical anomaly or there's a comment purge incoming.

My recent activity should be showing that I'd commented on a deal a week ago, this deal 5 days ago and another deal 4 days ago. This one had been removed from my recent activity though and it probably isn't due to a technical issue either.

I've said this before, but ever since HUKD started using their own Amazon affiliate links and blatantly promoting deals that make them the most money I've had less respect for the site. And I understand that they've got bills to pay, but they're making thousands per day and I can tell you as a developer myself that it doesn't cost that much to run a website like this.

What bothers me the most is that HUKD will hijack links with affiliate codes and redirects even in the comments now. Just try to post an Amazon link without it getting tagged and you'll see that you can't without posting a short URL, but they'll ban you for using even the official short Amazon URL. They'll say that it's for safety reasons, but it's really only because they can't tag it with their Amazon affiliate ID.

Anyone received yet? I cancelled my first order to reorder at an offer price and since then lost a few days and am on the slow delivery mine still stuck in processing. Wondered if anyone's here yet and impressions. Normally find these things take 4 weeks to arrive but fast shipping made it sound like would be far faster. Mind you I would normally avoid that as can't help feeling increases chance to get hit by a vat charge.

arrived a couple of days ago, so far so good, Android has play store and only needed a couple of apps removing, feels solid, err that's about it really, not had chance to use it much tbh

One I ordered has arrived too couple of days ago was a present for my mum (aged 68). They seem over the moon with it, even though are yet to try the windows side. Was worth it to make her happy. She had a 3 year old galaxy 10 inch tab says this is a massive improvement.

it appears to have Windows 10 pro, not sure what advantages that offers? it charges slow, sound is distinctly average, everything else is Bob on, can recommend the case if you haven't ordered already, perfect fit.
