Not for me, but it's a handy head's up. Personally I can manage just fine with Skype - I managed to get a deal on cheap credit through here a while ago and have hardly used any.

I have previously paid a huge bill because I dialled the international number directly by mistake instead of dialling the localphone number.

This add-on will at least help in keeping the bill down if that happens again.

I never understand how it's cheaper rates on payg when your on holiday abroad than when you call in the uk.

If you're on a 4G 'extra' contract then euro roaming calls and texts are free. You just need to get a data add on.

If we opt in, this will be a monthly add on, so does that mean if ee start charging for this add on in the future, would we automatically start getting charged until we cancel the add on?

I've been a victim of those horrendous EE charges, they charged me around 15 quid for a short call to Europe.
Don't know how EE can charge so much for calls to Europe, since European parlament abolished mobile phone roaming charges throughout EU countries..

Probably because calling abroad from the uk isn't roaming.

Also that law doesn't take effect for over a year.

I opted into this last year and it was great. I had to make a call to America and I was worried as I was on hold for 20 mins but I honestly didn't even notice it on my bill, must only have been a few quid

Voted cold as the better thing is to pay £1.00 extra and you get 1p international calls, which is what I have got and using it for last 10 months.

Hot, added on my EE contract for free, not planning to use it, but worth adding just in case, I came from 3 so I miss the cheaper/inclusive roaming calls. but the EE deal I got was much better than 3 offered.

What annoys me about EE is they don't publicize this and you have to ACTIVELY Opt in,
why don't they just add this to every account as default.

All the 0870 number are chargeable on ee. I have unlimited calls on my contract and it charge you 15 p / min and on top it charges some connection fee . Which is just outrageous. This information is wrong . Don't give false info in here

Do your research before you accuse people. If you have Unlimited calls that doesn't mean unlimited calls to 0870 numbers. I said "if" you have free minutes to "0870" numbers. Have a look here at EE for further information.

Vodafone also do the same i.e. 300 minutes to 08 numbers but £2.50 per month.

Sky, Virgin, BT and post office landline also gives you inclusive calls to 0870 numbers (check your tariff whether it's evening and weekend, weekend or anytime) and you can effectively make free calls.

Virgin mobie also give you inclusive calls to 0870 numbers on their tarrifs starting from £10 per month. Have a look on their website.

Yes the add on is FREE to opt in but the calling rates are ridiculous if you ask me. Its okay for folks who call once in a blue moon I suppose but its definetely not for regular callers. There are cheaper and even FREE options out there as I mentioned in my post #41.

Can you say if this works for the virgin mobile 30 day rolling contract sims? (>£10 packages) - it seems so from the website, just would like some actual user experience.

Note: EE take a £50 deposit once this add-on is active. I believe they credit this back to you after a few months of paying in regular bills. This was the case for me (I have recently just signed upto a new paym contract).

If you want this amount back, call them and request it back. This will subsequently turn off this add-on.

I should add that once they may take it once you have made a international call/text with the add-on active. They took a deposit after I made an international call.
