Totally, 100%, in fact it is actively encouraged by police. I was pulled over and given £100 in Ann Summers vouchers by the police because my headphones looked "awesome", the officers words, not mine.

While I agree, Bose generally produce decent sounding headphones that are nowhere near the best at their respective price points, the selling point of Bose is their combination of high quality ANC without comprimising good quality sound (their passive pairs are a waste of time though). Their ANC tech is undeniably at the top of the pile, and they're one of the few brands able to implement it in a way that doesn't wreck the sound quality of the headphones themselves. For 90% of people I don't recommend Bose, but for people spending large amounts of time on planes or on the tubeo people who would rather listen at more moderate volumes while out and about without the distraction of ambient noise, or people who just wamt to block out asmuch exterior noise as possible without going to IEMs, the QC25 absolutely sit near the top of the pile.

You sound just like me when I talk about headphones lol. I use to use Sennheisers for DJ'ing (HD580's) and resisted buying the Pioneer HDJ2000.
Good to know the ones you mentioned are just about ok with an Apple device, I might give them a go when they're released. There were some Sennheiser HD650's going for £213 a while ago, but I resisted. Plus you can't really go out and about with them and they obviously leak.

I really like them. In that price bracket around £200 for my ears were the best sounding of a number of cans I tried that day. I tried the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0, Grado SR125e SR325e, B&W P7, Sony MDR-1A and Audio Technica ATH-MSR7. That's not to say all the others were bad except for the Sennhieser which after all the positive reviews I thought were a major disappointment, it's just either the sound was too flat (B&W, AT) or the cans leaked too much (Grado).
The Pioneers sound good even through something like an iPhone which does just enough to drive them, but connect them to a DAC (Mojo) and they provided as good an experience to my ears as pairs that were in the next price range up. If you are looking for a bright sound with just the right amount of bass to keep it accurate then you should take the Pioneers into consideration.

This looks like a good deal but bit unsure if they will def give the £40 trade in discount on top of the price match with sonic direct. Jl have agreed to price match but obviously you pay full whack first then get a return but won't they notice if you used the £40 trade in when purchasing and only then refund you the difference ? Don't really want to pay £199 but £159 is bearable

Can I ask you a question? So I got the email telling me that they will price match. Did you then email them asking whether the extra £40 trade in discount stacks with the price match, get a reply confirming this, and then go ahead and order the headphones?
Or should I just order the headphones now using the £40 discount code. Then once I receive the headphones I email them asking for the £70 refund because of the price match, and hope they will still give the whole £70 back.

22 Mar 16#136
You've pretty much summed up common concensus on the QC25s- solid sound paired with excellent noise cancelling. There are plenty of better options if you don't need ANC, or they're the best on the market is you must have ANC.
mikeyb to phil7501
22 Mar 16#138
The noise cancelling is excellent and they are really comfy and feel 'premium'. After buying I looked at the amazon which give them a slating due to a load of 'problems'. Anyway after an hour of use I picked them up and the right ear had no sound coming through, I had to adjust the cable to get the sound to come through. I'm in two minds about whether to take them back for a refund as it's not the greatest first impression of an expensive product.

Worked for me. Requested price match online. Purchased online with 40 pounds trade in discount and collected in store yesterday. JL confirmed 71 pounds refund this morning. BTW the only difference between the android and IOS version is the cable. The headphones are identical and the IOS ones work perfectly with android phones and windows devices. It's just the call handling and music track skipping etc which don't work. If this is important you can buy a different cable on eBay.

Off topic but depends on your insurer. A lot now specify in the in the policy wording that it will invalidate your policy and make you fully liable for any claim. Even if your policy doesn't state this and you have a claim, most insurers will pay out a reduced amount based on the resale value of the car without an MOT.

They claimed as the till-price was correct, I had been billed correctly. Spent over 15 minutes debating it on principle and they finallyyyy agreed to simply refund the £5 and point-blank refused double the difference.

JL customer services price matches for me but have said no to paying £159. See their response below...
"No, I am afraid I have not explained the situation to you properly, please forgive me.
The original price is £269.95, we reduce the price at the checkout when you enter the promotional code by £40.00, which means you will pay £229.95 if you agree to trade in a pair of headphones to John Lewis when you go to collect your item.
We will then price match the £229.95 that you have paid with Sonic Directs price of £199.00 by refunding you a further £30.50 once you have contacted us to let us know you are happy and you are keeping the headphones. You will have paid £199 once both the trade in and the refund have been carried out."

Thank you for your enquiry.
I have looked into your request and have found that Sonic Direct do not currently have stock of the Bose® QuietComfort® Noise Cancelling® QC25 Over-Ear Headphones for Android/ Samsung Devices, Black/Silver, therefore on this occasion I cannot match the price quoted by Sonic Direct.
We carry a wide range of lines, and the competitor has to have the line actually in stock (rather than available only to order) for us to match the price. For products that we deliver, we ask that the competitor is able to deliver in equivalent timescales to us, and on products that require delivery, we'll take delivery charges into account when comparing prices.
I am sorry I have not been able to reduce the price on this occasion. If you require any further information or assistance please do not hesitate to contact me.

There's no law against using headphones while driving (in the UK). It seems to be one of those common misconceptions, like "if you don't have an MOT your insurance is automatically invalid". It's possible, but unlikely, that the police might try to do you for "driving without due care and attention" if they felt your headphones were compromising your driving, but they don't do that for people with thumping stereos, or indeed people who are deaf.

Bose are a good quality brand however if I were to buy some at that price I would be aiming for something more premium like Bang & Olufsen or Harman Kardon because these 2 companies know how to get the best of sound out for example the highs the mids and the lows where as bose focus on the highs and lows and flat in between and there isn't much of a crisp clarity however you need to listen to them properly to notice the difference.

So even with the price match and trade in, the price is £199 to match Sonic Direct. They are not refunding upto the £159.99 price :disappointed:

But then what's the point both Sonic and JL offer 2 year warranties. At the same price point. Surely to get your business it'd be more wise to take the hit. You sell more units and build up customer loyalty (even though ive bought my last two tellys from JL i factor in price).

This is a good deal, but if sound quality matters and you don't need active noise cancelling then a good pair of closed back headphones are your best bet. In that price range there are a number of options but having recently gone through all the models out there I settled on a pair of pioneer SE-MHR5. Forget reviews though, go with what your ears like, not what is supposedly the best.

Initial advice is to check that the dongle which is the newer BT600, as opposed to the BT300 (UC legend, edge and other monaurals use this one) is connected directly to the surface (if you have a dock even better). My setup is using the Dell U214H monitors rear usb port (the integrated hub is fed back to the PC/ laptop dock via usb 3). Other checks would be to disable the Bluetooth on the phone check for other Bluetooth devices in your vicinity. a deeper check would be for RF devices as the signal can suffer from more high powered sources i.e access point and wifi radios. Also raise a support ticket with platronics as they may be able to provide you with more guidance. All the best.

Probably a stupid question but how would these compare to a pair of HD419s?
They're my current commute headphones but I wouldn't mind the noise cancellation of these but I'm guessing that's what makes up most of the cost rather than the sound quality.
ElGofre to DevilWithin
19 Mar 16#54
They will most likely sound better than the 419s, as well as having the benefit of ANC. The QC25s are relatively widespread on demo stands in department stores or electronics stores (or Bose's own stores, of course) so it's worth hunting around your local town centre and seeing if you can find a pair to try.

Check Amazon Warehouse Deals.
Once in a while there is 30% off on warehouse items.
Comes in original packing, all accessories etc. Condition exactly as new.
If someone would seal the box back I would think that is brand new .
BTW Great headphones. Bluetooth quality is brilliant.
Battery life is awesome. At least as stated in manual or even more.
Sound quality is superb.
I'm sure they are made for Ambient, Pop, Rap, House and any modern kind of music.
Classical , modern power metal and rock sounds very good as well.

there are two strengths the bose has which some may think are weaknesses. Wired, so great for planes. Fully over ear, so you can wear them for many hours straight.

I work in the Unified communications sector. Recently I purchased in as an executive option a headset, called the plantronics UC focus. If you're using UC applications esp Skype for business. I'd say take a look at this option. Wireless with ANC and obstructed range of 2m unobstructed 30m. More business savvy and great in open plan offices. One of the execs who is trailing it for me has also commented on how it makes so much of a difference with his tinnitus. Of course I asked him to make use of https://mynoise.net/ to mask the high frequency of the ringing. But for a noisy floor to me it makes so much of a change.

Anyone know if these any good for sudden unpredictable noises like bangs etc. or just good for continuous noise, engine/fan/AC? Google seems to have mixed answers on this
ElGofre to krato
19 Mar 16#34
The way active noise cancelling headphones work is that they essentially measure the frequencies of outside sounds and overlay a signal at an inverted frequency, thus cancelling out some degree of noise. Given that there is inevitably going to have to be delay as all this processing is done and the frequency produced, active voice cancelling obviously works best at counteracting continuous noise. It can reduce the audibility of sudden loud noises but it's very unlikely to cancel it out fully, so probably not you if you're after a serene experience at a gun range or fireworks display!

Just been thinking about this offer. The terms state : The offer is only available if the customer agrees to dispose of an old pair of headphones he or she already owns by entering the promotional code, and bringing their old pair of headphones to the Audio department next time they visit a John Lewis store. Now as I rarely visit a JL store, it might be a while before I take my cheap pair of headphones to them to trade in. In the meantime, they have deducted the £40 from the original purchase price. What would happen if I didn't take them in for a year or two??

Have these - as mentioned, you do not buy these for their sound quality, you buy because they are excellent at noise cancellation. One thing to be aware of is that you can buy 2 versions of these - one comes with a cable that works with android/samsung/windows phones the other comes with a ipod/ipad cable. If you buy the wrong one, you will find that the in-line cable controls may not work.
Are you sure this will work online? It reduces the price paid to £229 when you add the promotion code for the trade in. Will JL not just refund £30 in that case? BTW they emailed me back within an hour to confirm that they will price match online

Good to know the ones you mentioned are just about ok with an Apple device, I might give them a go when they're released. There were some Sennheiser HD650's going for £213 a while ago, but I resisted. Plus you can't really go out and about with them and they obviously leak.
I presume that you don't get the 40 squids back until you do, right?

I may return them and get the QC20 if that ever goes on discount, instead.
Now to wait for JL to refund me the £70 odd !
Hoping these live up to my expectations now!
Has anyone got any recommendations for batteries for these? Rechargeable preferable, but not overly bothered.
Or should I just order the headphones now using the £40 discount code. Then once I receive the headphones I email them asking for the £70 refund because of the price match, and hope they will still give the whole £70 back.
You will then receive a credit to the value of £55.95 once you have received and have confirmed you are happy with your purchase."

"Can I confirm as I would also like to take advantage of the £40 trade in offer, would it possible to do this and receive the price match at the same time to reduce the total paid to £159?"
I have just had an email from CS saying:
"Please be assured you are still able to get the £40 trade in offer for this item. You must purchase the item online, and once you have received the goods, please email us and we will process the refund for the price match against Sonic Direct."
So, I'm going to place the order, if there are any issues I will refer them too their email!
I was over-charged by Tesco's by £5 (Shelf said £3, I was charged £8. Went to CS and they insisted the item scanned at the correct price, but the shelf label was either wrong or the shelf label did not match the product fully (even though the label matched the item  ). They claimed as the till-price was correct, I had been billed correctly. Spent over 15 minutes debating it on principle and they finallyyyy agreed to simply refund the £5 and point-blank refused double the difference.

We will then price match the £229.95 that you have paid with Sonic Directs price of £199.00 by refunding you a further £30.50 once you have contacted us to let us know you are happy and you are keeping the headphones. You will have paid £199 once both the trade in and the refund have been carried out."
Yours sincerely,
