Not a comment on the machine, but I wondered about the "benefits" of higher spin speeds, thinking 1200 was slow these days so I looked it up, stumbled across this :http://www.whitegoodshelp.co.uk/washing-machine-spin-speed-efficiency/, seems as usual there is a con /bs with higher speeds. Worth a quick read.

^^ I bought her a couple of weeks ago. In fairness, she is twice the price @ £399. But she is a 9kg, 1400rpm, A+++ with 5 year warranty. 10 year warranty on her direct drive motor. She is quiet, beautiful and supreme in every way. I love her.

That's a really crap article. It assumes the ONLY reason to buy a higher RPM machine is because it saves you money in the long run. Seriously, I've never known a single person who factors that into the equation.

People buy a higher RPM machine because it's faster to dry things. The faster spin means more water is removed, which means it drys faster. If you have kids running around and need things washing regularly, or you work long hours and only get the weekend to do washing, then over the day, it makes a huge difference.

It also uses the results from a 6kg washer (which is quite small), and is an 8 year old article. This is an issue because since 2014, washing machines must be rated A or above (A+++). Some older models might still be kicking about in shops though, as it wasn't made illegal to sell them.

The article also makes more silly claims to try and bolster their point:

Stable washing machines? LOL. Yes, okay. I guess if you live on a boat or an airplane then how "stable" it is might be important. For the rest of us, adjusting the legs properly and placing it on a flat surface will do.

As for lasting longer because of being slower....Rightttt.....Because the parts wouldn't have been up-rated to handle the load, like every other mechanical device that is built by someone with a brain. It's like claiming a 1 liter Corsa engine will outlive an 1.8 Honda VTEC because 1 liter is less.

Quite simply, people normally buy a higher RPM washer for speed, not for saving money.

JL only does price match if the other retailer has both an online presence and a physical outlet. Not entirely sure if co-op electrical is the same as co-op stores on the high street but it could be worthwhile to give it a try

Good price for 9 kg.

Should have gone for this one instead of the Sammy Ecobubble for £400+ quid. I dont see much difference except for the high speed of 1600 rpm which takes water off the clothes well.

I read an article somewhere which highlighted how washing machine prices have come down at the significant expense of reliability. Apparently this is what consumers want- which is sad in a way, especially in an age when we should be trying to reduce waste and consumption. :disappointed:

Flaviafishcake:

Co op Electrical sell this model with an Optional 3 Year Washing Machine Warranty for £258.44 or for £297.19 with a five year one as well as the £199.99 with the standard guarentee,

Their free delivery service is good as well, you book a day which suits you online and you are told whether you'll get morning or afternoon delivery, I bought a fridge freezer from them recently; excellent service - would definitely recommend

Bought a Beko Dishwasher a couple of years ago, major rust started a few months after the 2 year warranty ran out. Beko were totally uninterested to the point of being rude. They don't agree that a dishwasher should last longer than 2 years! Learnt our lesson, will never buy another Beko product, they are a bit cheaper for a reason!

Sadly it seems you've only scanned the article before dismissing it. The article doesn't assume anything, it's very balanced and only trying to give useful information. There is no difference whatsoever in quality between a washing machine spinning at 1200 and one spinning at 1600 or 1800, that's one of the problems. The extra fast spinning ones just aren't up to it and don't last very long at all - some are even exploding on spin. The only point of the article is to say - hey, don't get obsessed with spin speeds and get sucked into paying a lot more for one that may not be as reliable, is nosier and may not last as long.
kamran9558
21 Mar 16 #28
Is it better than the Samsung ecobubble machine which was posted a few days ago?
nomnomnomnom
21 Mar 16 #29
No, I haven't just skimmed it. It's incredibly poor and offers very little real world applicable advice. The article even says that the stats are directly lifted out of a manual:

There is nothing to verify this against. It doesn't even say which manual it's from.

That to one side, you're not even addressing a single one of my points. Not only that, the claims you're making are simply nonsense. For example:

This just isn't true. I've replaced several machine drums over the years. The part numbers between different RPM drums are different, along with the suspension and bearings. Go and read the service manuals for a Bosch washing machine: The bearings are rated for different RPM drums, along with many of the other parts. The quality of these items is normally related to the brand and which parts they have used.
To claim that there is "no difference whatsoever in quality" is nonsense.

ALL washing machines can fail, like any mechanical device. If higher RPM ones were "EXPLODING" regularly when spinning, do you really think they would be sold?
You provide no evidence at all about higher RPM machines lasting less time. Some of the best selling machines on the market are higher RPM ones and have a low failure rate as can be seen on online reviews.

Present some evidence to these claims.

"May not" is a great cop out to something that provides little more than ramblings without any evidence. It also works with the opposite to though:

A higher RPM washing machine may last longer. It may also be more reliable.

We're not living in the 80's. All the information and ratings for things like bearings are available online. Stop lying and telling people that there is "no difference whatsoever in quality" and other such unproven claims.

If the article simply stated the costs of a higher RPM, against the electricity saving - awesome. That's fine. But it's not. It's trying to claim people buy higher RPM because of saving money (most don't - it's a time thing), with all sorts of other nonsense thrown in there with no evidence.

Had my Beko washing machine for nearly 2 years and haven't had any bother with it. Nor my Beko oven, tumble drier or dishwasher. Maybe just been lucky but so far they've been brilliant. My washing machine looks almost identical to this except it goes to 1400rpm. I usually leave it at the default 1200 anyway so not a deal breaker.

21 Mar 16 1 #33
don't get hung up on brand names, cost, warranty and performance are what you should think about. If it performs great then it's always a gamble on how long machines last so warranty is your next consideration.

I use a Beko Washer, it's about 3 year old, I won't be buying another one, money was tight at the time so needs must and all that. I would say if there's not many using the washing machine, one of these cheap washers would be fine.

not sure why you would spin clothes at more than 800 rpm, they will go out chewed as fark, I don't iron so really 1600rpm is no use for me
Dragon32 to Krizzo3
21 Mar 16 #50
I know.

My old Bosch did 1200rpm, but always used it on easy iron setting which tumbled (fluffed) the clothes up more at the end and restricted the spin speed 800rpm.

I find if I spun on the fastest speed the clothes would be creased after my usual tumble dry after for a while until nearly dry and hang them up to save ironing (got 7 year old twins so don't have time to iron and find they don't need it with this technique).

Used to had an old Hoover washer until last year. Now have zanussi. was very surprised to see that most of washing modes are 3-4 hours long. The longest mode on the old was about 2-2.5 hours. I use 'quick wash' option so it is about 1h 45min. but it is still too long.

I've often mused about the usefulness of quoted spin speeds, surely the diameter of the drum should be given as well because surely the actual speed of the drum at its periphery will be greater the larger it is?

High spin speed does have its uses.

the issue was with co op electricals customer service if something goes wrong with the appliance

its just very slow - you will be without a working appliance for a good 3 to probably 4 weeks

you will also need to be firm about them doing anything - they will promise to ring you back with an update by certain time but won't - so you will end up chasing them again - its just very time consuming and annoying - i would buy elsewhere if i were you (john lewis for example)

I bought this machine through John Lewis after confirming they would price match at £199.99, it's due for delivery on Thursday. The reviews for this machine and other similar Beko machines are positive, although to be expected there aren't as many reviews as you'd find for better known makes. Beko wouldn't have been my brand of choice but the value is amazing so this is a great deal.

coop customer service has just been pants after breakdown issue.

6 month old fridge freezer broke down. Had to wait over a week for engineer to come out. Engineer advised that fridge freezer had caught fire (protective seal had not been fitted when manufactured so moisture had gotten into the control panel and set it in fire).

Been told its going to at least another 1 to 2 weeks to either get a replacement part or a replacement (what I've argued for).

Coop and Hotpoint arguing amongst themselves on who should do it.

As far as I know under consumer law its up to coop as its under 12 months old.

However they are just stating that they need to wait for each party to do a particular thing.

So been constantly promised by Coop that someone will phone be back at a particular time (never happens). maybe I'm to naive to expect that when someone promises to ring you back they will.

It just become very annoying and expensive to be without a fridge freezer for so long

I have bought this machine because my top of the range Panasonic VX bought from John Lewis with a 6 yr warranty has failed, been waiting 3 weeks for a part we have 4 children and this delay is unacceptable, hence why I bought this machine to tie us over(you soon get sick of washing clothes in a bowl) they rang me the day this was delivered (unbelievable) but cannot come out till next Thursday to fit it...

Googled my U11 error code http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/help/fault-codes/laundry-fault-codes/3328-panasonic-na-series-washing-machine-fault-codes as it would not drain. Cleaned out the filter etc and still no joy so called Panasonic as I also have the 6 year warranty. Woman asked if I had done a 'Service Wash' on it. The service wash is basically put it on cotton setting and then run with no clothes or detergent at 90 deg C. Told her a little white lie and said of course I had, as I wanted it booked in. Got home tonight and did the service wash and its working again, for now....

I've been using this Beko washing machine for a week and I must say that so far I am very pleased with the wash results and overall performance. The freedom to adjust the spin speed, temperature settings and delayed time are super additions which were not available on my Bosch washing machine. Also the time remaining display is very handy. I am mainly using the Daily Quick wash programme set at 1200 spin speed/40 degree wash. Takes 50 minutes on a full 9kg load. I have also found that if I select Spin and Drain after the main wash it makes the washing come out of the machine a lot dryer, it just adds an extra 5 minutes to the whole wash, ideal if your drying washing inside on clothes airers. Don't forget to register your new Beko washing machine online.

Spectacular washing machine not a glitch ever and we still use it at least 7 times a week.
